With the real NFL draft coming up soon, it might be a good idea for everyone to put their rosters back together on paper to help Nick get them in order. I have no buyout monies to be added to my cap. If you do, be honest. You can drop players right now at no cost if they are not contracted. Biddable players can be dropped if you have zero desire to keep them on your roster. They can be bid on just the same, you just relinquish your ability to match. Cap is $15,000,000. Here is mine:
Fukuoka Flash 2024 Pre-Draft/Bidding Roster ($14,300,000 cap total)
Deshaun Watson - contracted at $800,000 to 2027
Jordan Love - draft protected at $3,600,000
Ty Chandler - waiver protected at $300,000
Travis Etienne - contracted at $750,000 to 2026
Tank Bigsby - draft protected at $100,000
Tyjae Spears - draft protected at $300,000
Josh Jacobs - contracted at $1,500,000 to 2027
D'Ernest Johnson - waiver protected at $100,000
Devin Singletary - waiver protected at $400,000
Patrick Taylor - waiver protected at $100,000
Cooper Kupp - contracted at $1,600,000 to 2026
Zay Flowers - draft protected at $600,000
Chris Olave - contracted at $400,000 to 2027
A.T. Perry - waiver protected at $400,000
Cedric Tillman - draft protected at $100,000
Elijah Moore - biddable at $200,000
Jakobi Meyers - biddable at $1,000,000
Jake Ferguson - waiver protected at $500,000
T.J. Hockenson - contracted at $750,000 to 2027
Dalton Kincaid - draft protected at $200,000
Michael Mayer - draft protected at $200,000
Greg Dulcich - biddable at $200,000
Tyler Bass - biddable at $100,000 (I think)
Minnesota DEF - biddable at $100,000 (I think)
In case folks forget, don't remember/understand, or never read..
Draft protection applies to players you picked up in the draft in 2023. It means they are untouchable in bidding in 2024. You can contract them if you want. You don't have to do anything with them this offseason, but now is the time to contract them if they're a future stud. You got 2023 for free. Sign them for 4 years. Then franchise them when the contract is up. If no one bites.. you can contract again. That's 6 years you get for sure with a reasonable chance of keeping them even longer. They will be available for bidding in 2025.
Waiver protection applies to players you picked up on waivers in 2023. It means they are untouchable in bidding in 2024. You can contract them if you want. If you find a diamond in the rough, sweet!! Pretty much similar to drafted players. They will be available for bidding in 2025.
Contracted means contracted. Duh.
Helpful tips for dynasty league team building:
- Sign elite players you draft. They typically won't get any cheaper.
- Use waivers throughout the year to identify talent that will get opportunities next year. Pay attention all year long. Excellent way to stock your dynasty league roster before even getting to the next draft. :)
- Manage your contracts. Good rule of thumb is to try to not have every contract come due in the same season. It can be tough to do. Especially near the beginning of a new league, like ours.
- Don't come in last place after winning the year previous.. very embarrassing.
- Slipping your commish a $20 gift card at the liquor store goes a long way (j/k).
Use League > Archives to figure things out. Tedious, but it's there.
