The goal is to rack up the most cumulative points during the NFL Playoffs (from games played on wildcard weekend all the way to the Super Bowl). You do that by fielding a team of between 11 to 16 players: 2QBs-3RBs-3WRs-1TE-1K-1Def/ST and up to an additional 3 offensive flex players, at your option. A Flex player can be any offensive player: QB,RB,WR, or TE with the caveat that only one of the Flex positions can be filled by a QB (ie. you can only start 3 QBs). For instance, you could opt to field a team with less than 14 players if you're trying to stack it with "studs" while staying under the cap. You can start up to 2 Kickers or 2 Defenses each week.
Two things to keep in mind: (1) your team cannot exceed the $240 salary cap at any time (you can be under, but not over the cap), and (2) you are limited to only 10 waiver wire pickups (additions) during the NFL playoffs (4 weeks worth of games). The max 10-limit on the number of pickups you've used starts after week 1 so feel free to tinker with your initial/first lineups.
This places a real premium on finding players who will produce on the field AND are on an NFL team which advances deep into the playoffs. This allows you to economize the use of your limited waiver wire picks. As you'll soon find out, this is a game of attrition ... by the time the Super Bowl rolls around, most of you will have "dead spots" on your roster from players whose NFL team has been knocked out of the playoffs. Not to worry, because almost everyone else will have roster holes as well.
Its a $25 buy-in with the winner taking the whole pot. You'll be able to track your team's progress (in real time scoring) throughout the playoffs. In years past, the pot has gone to the 1st place team (most cumulative points) if we were under 20 participants. If we get more than 20 participants, we'll split the pot 90% to first place and 10% for second place. That's the way it'll be again this year.
