The draft is always at 6pm on Wednesday the day before the Thursday season opener.
Last year for our 1st time we did hold it on a Tuesday due to the Bills playing in LA on Thursday and owners were in flight on Wednesday.
It will once again be an online draft for those who can not be here.
As I did last year I will also regenerate the schedule so it is not the same year after year. If you look at the schedule on the homepage it is identical to last years opening day. We followed the same schedule for many years until Travis and Jason pointed this out.
Remember we will be drafting 14 players like always, but our rosters will be increased to 15 this year. So after your 1st free agent acquisition for the year you will not have to drop a player. Pretty much everyone wanted this for injury protection reasons.
Draft will be held at 2115 Richardson Rd. Collins (landline 716 532-5510 cell 716 725-5927). A fee of 200 dollars will be due at the draft.
Please try to be timely. Arriving five to ten minutes early would be nice so that we can get started as soon as possible. I’m estimating that the draft will take around three hours to complete.
The league rules can be accessed on rtsports.com that you all have access to. You should familiarize yourself with the rules so that you will be better prepared for the draft. We have an on-line draft so those who are absolutely unable to attend may draft remotely. Please bring an electronic device to enter your picks. Absent that I can enter picks for those who are unable to.
Our league will consist of 12 teams and we will have a 14 round draft. The selections will rotate each round going from first to last and then last to first.
Our league rules as written on our league site sets roster limits. Please review these. As a reminder:
- squads will consist of 14 players (9 starters 5 reserves)
- you must insure that you draft the minimum from each position as follows so that you can field a nine man starting line-up: 1 Qb 2 RB’s 2 WR’s 1 TE 1 Flex (RB,WR,TE)1 Kicker and 1 Defense/Special Teams.
- The 5 reserves can be selected at anytime and can be from any position.
- “Bench Players” will serve as our tiebreakers. Therefore if a game ends in a tie the total points of your bench players will determine the winner. Ties still remain a possibility.
Payouts will be achieved through five different avenues as follows:
3. Weekly Pick’ems. The league website allows for us to “pick” the winners of all NFL games. There will be no point spreads. This will extend through week 16 of the NFL Season. The top 3 teams with the most wins will receive payouts.
4. The Toilet Bowl. To keep everyone interested the 6 teams that did not make the playoffs will compete for the “Toilet Bowl”. This playoff format will be identical to the other. Payout will only go to the “Toilet Bowl Champion”.
5. The Goat of the Week Champion. The lowest scoring team for the week will be eliminated leaving only one team standing after 12 weeks.
Free Agent Pick-ups
It is essential that you understand the rules surrounding free agent pick-ups. READ THE RULES. In summary, it is a weekly cycle that first restricts signings until players are awarded to teams based on the “tumbler” procedure. This is followed by an open signing period. As an example: Free agent signings end at 1 pm on Sunday. A free agent has a 4 TD day. Multiple teams wants him. At this point you will be required to put in a claim for him. On Wednesday night at 10 pm the computer will award him and other players to the proper teams. The following morning the open free agent signing period begins at 9am. It remains open until once again, Sunday at 1pm. Waiver wire and free agent pick-ups will continue throughout the entire playoffs. As a courtesy I would ask all of the non-playoff teams to not partake in the Wednesday Waiver Procedure and wait until Thursday morning at 9am to add players that you may need in your pursuit of the Toilet Bowl Championship.
Waiver Wire Procedure
Waiver Wire Pickups commence this week in week 2. Submit your claims prior to 10pm this Wednesday. Your first pickup is free as it will raise your roster limit to its 15 player capacity. Therefore you do not have to drop a player to add your first one. However, any subsequent additions will require you to drop players. This one free pickup can be made at anytime during the league year.
Be careful with your drops. Ideally your first claim with the contingencies should not need a drop for this week only, but any subsequent claims will. If in doubt place the drops in anyways because the computer will not drop a player if it is not required, however if a drop is required and you offer no one to drop then you will not be granted your selection.
I advised the new guys on this procedure and recommended that they read the rules and watch the video provided. This can be accessed through Teams/Waiver Wire. Some vets that I have in mind could use this too. The claim results can be viewed between 10 and 10:15 pm by going to Reports/Waiver Wire.
Updated Breakdown of Payouts.
The League Fee for 2021 will be 200 dollars. Originally the fee was 150 dollars. It increased to 160 and then 170 with the additions of the Goat of the Week and Survivor Pools. Since they were add ons and not part of the payment structure I paid the winners the entirety of the newly collected money, which was 120 dollars per winner.
Beginning in 2021 we will eliminate the Survivor Pool and reduce the payout for the winner of the Goat of the Week Tournament from 120 to 75 dollars. The Goat of The Week will no longer be an “add on” as the money will now be built into the system thus giving me the flexibility to reappropriate the winnings. Of the $45 reduction 20 will be extra for payouts while 25 was reappropriated to the #1 Seed which frees up #25 dollars of transaction fees that was used to supplement the winnings of the #1 seed.
The increased fee from 160 to 200 dollars will create an additional 40 dollars per team. Add in the 20 saved from the Goat of the Week winnings and we have 500 dollars to distribute among the various playoff teams.
This 500 dollars will be distributed between the 6 teams that make the playoffs and the two divisional winners as detailed in the chart below.
Our winner take all playoff winnings will double as they progress as follows: Divisional Round - 75. Championship Round - 150. Super Bowl - 300.
Also note that our transaction fees will be reduced from three dollars to two.
Along with the reduction of the Goat of the Week the Toilet Bowl winnings will be reduced from 50 to 35 dollars. In the past I’ve used 15 from the transaction fees to pay the Tidy Bowl winner $50. Due to the variable nature of the transaction fees I would prefer not to use them for established payouts. This will put 40 more dollars in the pockets of the Super Bowl entrants. Now all established payouts will be paid from the 200 dollar league fee with two exceptions.
The cost of the trophies will be paid for from transactions and if/when the 90 dollar RTSports fee exceeds 90 dollars the difference will also be paid for from transactions. Presently the 90 dollar fee is built into our 200 dollar payment system. The Super Bowl entrants will split the remainder of the transaction fees.

We had these Five changes for the 2018 season and they will continue for the 2019 season and beyond.
Final Notes
Do not forget to put in your weekly picks by the deadlines. Remember there are Thursday games.
I would like to do “favors” for everyone, however a “favor” for one may be unfair to the other 11 owners. Things like forgetting to make line-up changes or selecting your picks are errors you will have to live with unfortunately. The deadlines for these transactions must be followed. If someone is going to be out of town and has no computer access I would gladly make changes for you if you make prior arrangements.
Be a good owner. If your team is out of contention for the playoffs do your best to maintain a viable starting team. In other words don’t keep an injured player in the line-up when replacements are available on your bench. This would not be fair to the others in the league.
When you learn how to make line-up changes you must not forget to click “save” before you exit that page or your changes will not take effect.
The message board is awesome and I encourage you all to use it to have some good spirited fun.
COMPUTER GLITCHES
If anyone has an issue with line-up changes prior to game time where they are unable to perform them or any other such issue that could affect their line-up and thus the final score of their game. There are two things that you must do.
1. post your issue on the message board for all to see (state who you want in your line-up and who you want benched) and remember this is a declaration and it will be final.
2. contact me on my home or cell phone and leave a message if you do not reach me
Notes: I have posted similar messages in the past. This one will be added to our By-Laws.
Please try not to make last second frantic line-up changes because In all likelihood these problems are almost always user errors.
Also, and it bears repeating, if you post "this is who I want in my starting line-up, but a computer glitch prevented it" then that is who you will get. That is a declaration of your change and it will be final unless you follow it up with a message that rescinds the first one. And the second message must be posted prior to the start of the game.
Be certain of your intentions because if your chosen starter gets hurt or your benched player plays great there is no way to alter your line-up if that is what you requested in your final message.
RTSports has been very very reliable. However, if we encounter a problem we have a procedure in place that will prevent things from getting messy. In all of the years of using RTSports I have only heard of one legitimate issue and that was recently. Respect to Nutcracker who reported it without complaint.
