Entrepreneurs’ Best Ball Fantasy Football League

Welcome to the third consecutive year of the Entrepreneurs’ Best Ball Fantasy Football League! We are back this year with more simplified rules and some new faces that will make our league more fun and challenging than ever before.

What is a Best Ball League?

Best Ball Fantasy is for people with a fast paced lifestyle who love NFL football but don’t have time to manage their team every week. We instead focus on the best part of the league; the Fantasy Football Draft.

The premise of the league is simple - during a live draft, you will select 17 players for your team. Then, each week you will go head to head against another team in the league and accumulate a win/loss record.

However, instead of worrying about bye weeks, setting your lineup and making trades, in a Best Ball league you keep most of the same players the entire year. Instead of setting your lineup, the players with the highest scoring totals that week at each position count as being your starters.

No setting your lineup.

No trades.

No waivers.

Just attend the draft, pick your players, and support the players on your team each week. The regular season is 14 weeks in length, followed by a three week playoff period which pits the division winners against each other.

League Schedule and Participation

This year we will have a 14-team league, separated into two 7-team divisions. Following the end of the 14-week regular season, 6 teams will make the playoffs, with the two division winners on BYE for the Wildcard round.  The other four playoff teams will be determined based upon their regular season record and, in case of a tie, the tie breakers listed below.

Official Rules

Team Names

Each participant should choose a team name and geographic location for their franchise. Example, “Punxsutawney” could be the location name and  “Ground Hogs” could be the team name.

Team names are a great way to identify the brand of your team. The location does not need to be where you live but it should be a real world location and not fictional. Team names may not be changed again during the course of the season.

Draft Day

The Entrepreneur’s League Draft will take place on Tuesday, September 6th at a time to be determined by consensus between the franchise.  We will draft using the FantasyPros Draft Wizard, which will allow you to put your favorite players into a queue and will make recommendations to you with regard to the best players available when you draft.

The league commissioner will send out a link prior to the draft. Try to arrive early so that the draft can begin on time.

Beginning at the draft start time and date, the league commissioner will provide a brief overview of the rules, then execute the randomization algorithm in FantasyPros to determine the draft order.

Player Selection

Once order is determined, the draft will begin.

The draft consists of 19 rounds, 266 picks in total. The order of selection is reversed every other round; so, for example, if you choose 2nd in the first round you will choose 31st in the second round. This is commonly referred to as a snake draft

Be ready when it’s your turn to draft!!

If a team does not make their selection during the allotted time, FantasyPros will automatically make your selection. Therefore it is important to observe the clock and make your pick in a timely fashion.

Autodraft

For fantasy football newbies, if you don’t want to make the draft selections yourself, you can configure your team for “auto draft”. You must still attend the draft with everyone else, but if your team is set to auto draft then your pick will be made automatically based upon the FantasyPros algorithm.

Don’t feel ashamed to choose this option if you’re not familiar with the players, especially late in the draft.

Making Your Player Selections

If you are not using an auto draft, when it is your franchise’s turn to make a selection, use the draft tool to make your selection.

The FantasyPros Draft Wizard will tell you what it believes to be the best players available at each position, and will let you know the percentage chance that a player that you like will be available when you pick again.

Breaks

We will not be taking any breaks during the draft. However with 14 teams, you should have enough time to escape for a bathroom break and see who was drafted when you return.

Team Roster

Please note that we have changed the rules to the team roster composition this year.

We have fantasy football players of various levels in this league and, while we want a competitive league, we also want to be fair and have fun. With so many teams in the league, we had problems in our first two years with teams stocking up on positions like quarterback and tight end, leaving other teams without the opportunity to select a backup.

To combat this, we will enforce minimums and maximums at each position. Your team roster will consist of 19 total players, 8 of which will start on game day. Below are the list of positions with minimum and maximums.

  • Quarterback (start 1, must select 2)
  • Running Backs (start 2, may not select more than 8)
  • Wide Receivers (start 2, may not select more than 8)
  • Flex (RB, WR or TE) (start 1)
  • Tight End (start 1, must select 2)
  • Team Defense (start 1, must select 2)

There are no kickers in this league.

Thus, your team will have 2 quarterbacks, 2 tight ends, 2 team defenses, and 13 other players between running back and wide receiver. You may not have more than 8 running backs or 8 wide receivers.

Head to Head Schedules

There are two (2) divisions; the North and the South divisions. Teams will be placed into divisions based on their real world geographic location.

Each team will play every other team once (13 games) with one bonus game chosen based upon your draft position. That final game will pair pick 1 against pick 2, pick 3 against pick 4, etc.

The commissioner will send out a weekly summary on Monday evening with the final scores from each week, and a live scoring app will be available to track your team’s progress on game day.

Point Scoring

Points are calculated for each player, each week, based upon the scoring system below.

Category Points
Touchdowns (Running, Passing, Receiving) 6
For every 15 yards passing 0.25
For every 5 yards rushing 0.25
For every 5 yards receiving 0.25
Anyone making a reception 0.25
Anyone scoring a 2-point conversion 2
Extra Points 1
Interceptions -2
Fumbles -2

Defensive Scoring Points
Defense Touchdowns via interception or fumble recovery 6
Special Teams Touchdowns via kickoff or punt return,or the return of a blocked kick or punt 6
Safeties (including special teams safety) 2
Sacks 1
Interceptions and Fumble Recoveries 2
Special teams Conversion Return 2

Calculating defensive points based on points allowed Points
0 points (shutout)  10
2 to 5 points allowed 8
6 to 10 points allowed 6
11 to 15 points allowed 4
16 to 19 points allowed 2
20 to 30 points allowed 0
31 to 35 points allowed -2
36 to 40 points allowed -4
41 to 45 points allowed -6
Etc (continues -2 additional points for every 5 points)

Determining the Starting Lineup for Head to Head

Because lineups are not set each week in Best Ball Fantasy, the players at each position with the most points are counted as the starters in each week.

Take the following example roster.

  • QB: Matt Ryan (12 fantasy points)
  • QB: Daniel Jones (28 fantasy points)
  • RB: Derrick Henry (18 fantasy points)
  • RB: Kenyan Drake (10 fantasy points)
  • RB: Dameon Pierce (12 fantasy points)
  • RB: Sony Michel (12 fantasy points)
  • RB: Nyheim Hines (13 fantasy points)
  • WR: Juju Smith Schuster (8 fantasy points)
  • WR: Robert Woods (2 fantasy points)
  • WR: Marquise Brown (12 fantasy points)
  • WR: Jamison Crowder (15 fantasy points)
  • WR: Drake London (16 fantasy points)
  • WR: Chris Olave (14 fantasy points)
  • WR: Breshad Perriman (0 fantasy points)
  • WR: Allen Lazard (0 fantasy points)
  • TE: Evan Engram (3 fantasy points)
  • TE: Hayden Hurst (6 fantasy points)
  • DEF: Denver Broncos (9 fantasy points)
  • DEF: Philadelphia Eagles (-3 fantasy points)

In this case, the starting roster for scoring purposes is considered to be:

  • QB: Daniel Jones (28 fantasy points)
  • RB: Derrick Henry (18 fantasy points)
  • RB: Nyheim Hines (13 fantasy points)
  • WR: Drake London (16 fantasy points)
  • WR: Jamison Crowder (15 fantasy points)
  • FLEX: Chris Olave (14 fantasy points)
  • TE: Hayden Hurst (6 fantasy points)
  • DEF: Denver Broncos (9 fantasy points)
  •

This means that your team scored 199 points this week. If you score more than your opponent, you win the game and gain a “win” in your win/loss column.

Tiebreakers

During the regular season, head to head games that result in a tie will result in a tie in the standings as well. However in the playoffs,  a definitive winner is needed in each game. If the head to head point totals result in a tie, the following tiebreakers are used, in order:

  1. Team with the most total touchdowns among starting lineup
  2. Team with the most total touchdowns among all players on the roster
  3. Team with the player who scored the most points in the week
  4. Total points among all players on the roster
  5. Team with the quarterback who threw the longest completed pass, among your entire roster
  6. Coin flip

Determining Playoff Entry

There are divisions. You will be assigned to your division based upon your “home” geographic location.

The division winners will advance to the playoffs, along with 4 wildcard teams that have the best regular season records.

Tiebreakers for seeding and playoff entry shall be based upon the following:

  1. Highest number of regular season wins
  2. Highest number of regular season points
  3. Head to head matchup tiebreaker
  4. Highest scoring regular season game
  5. Highest scoring player on the roster at the end of the season
  6. Coin Flip

This year we will have a 14-team league, separated into two 7-team divisions. Following the end of the 14-week regular season, 6 teams will make the playoffs, with the two division winners on BYE for the Wildcard round.  The other four playoff teams will be determined based upon their regular season record and, in case of a tie, the tie breakers shown above.

Week 15: Wildcard Round

Seed 6 @ Seed 3

Seed 5 @ Seed 4

Seeds 1 and 2 have a BYE week

Week 16: Divisional Rounds

Lowest Ranking Seed @ Seed 1

Second Lowest Seed @ Seed 2

Week 17: Championship Game

The final two teams face off.

League Entrance Fee and Prizes

This is a competitive fantasy football league, but we are playing in order to have fun. For that reason, the entrance fee is only $75. It must be paid prior to draft day. You may pay this fee in other currencies based on the exchange rate on the day of payment.

At the conclusion of the season, the league champion will receive $800 in cash and the second place team will receive $250
