CAFÉ Fantasy Football League Rules

Updated 8/28/23

FRANCHISE INFORMATION

  • The cost of a franchise is $130. The total collected less the cost of the league management service and other administrative expenses constitutes the prize pool.
  • League fees are due at the draft unless other arrangements are made with the Commissioner.
  • Draft is the last weekend in August, usually Saturday at noon, unless majority of owners prefers Sunday. Draft is run using the website’s online Draft Room.
  • Team rosters will be determined by means of a serpentine draft. Draft order will be determined by drawing cards and that order applies to the whole draft.
  • If protections are in use- Keep single drafted player the following season at same round YOU drafted said player in prior season. Protection decisions will be submitted by owners before the draft order has been determined.
  • Once the draft begins, each team in turn will be on the clock and must make a selection within 1 minute.
  • If divisions are used, they are realigned every 3 years.
  • Current league size is 14 teams, no divisions.
  • Teams may have co-owners.

  • Set starting lineups on the website by the cutoff times, no exceptions. If you are away from your computer, you may call/text in changes (before game time) to the Commissioner at (434) 566-5401,or email them to brook@digsinc.com. Any changes will be posted to the forum ASAP.
  • Lineup changes are allowed up to kickoff on all Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday games, with final roster lockdown at 8:15 pm on Mondays. No free agent pickups are allowed after the start of the first Sunday game.

FREE AGENTS & WAIVER WIRE

The league will use a waiver claim system for the initial awarding of players from the free agent pool each week. After the claim period ends, free agents are available first-come, first-serve until the first game begins on Sunday.

The initial waiver claims order will be the reverse of the draft order. Each time an owner is awarded a claim, he moves to the end of the list (tumbler). The deadline to submit claims is 10 pm on Tuesday. The free agent window then opens at 8 pm on Wednesday.

TRADES

Trading of players between teams is allowed through week 8. Both sides in the trade must contact the commissioner indicating the trade is agreeable to both parties. Trades must be submitted by 9 pm on Wednesday to take effect for that week’s games. If the commissioner has no concerns about the trade, it will be approved. If there are concerns about the fairness of the deal proposed, other owners not involved in the trade will be consulted.

REGULAR SEASON GAME TIES

If a regular season game results in a tie, then the winner will be determined by totaling the points of each team’s ENTIRE BENCH. The higher scoring bench determines the winner. If that score is tied, then the game will result in a tie. If there is a tie in both regular and bench scoring in a playoff game, the win will be awarded to the higher seeded team as an expression of “Home Field Advantage.”

PROTECTIONS (Not in use as of 2018 season)

In effect from 2012 through 2017

The league has two protection options: a first-round spot and a fifth-round spot. Teams may take advantage of one, both, or neither option.

First round protection rules:

  • “Franchise Player” designation can be given to a player by the team that drafted him, provided that the player is on the team's roster at the end of the previous season
  • Players cannot be protected more than twice by any team in any three years straight
  • Players acquired during the season, by trade or free agency are eligible for protection

Fifth round protection rules

  • Player not have been drafted in the first 5 rounds by any team (in effect for 2015)
  • Player is protected as the 5th round selection in the 2015 draft
  • Player may be protected only one time in the 5th round spot, but is then eligible for first round protection for a second year.
