I. ORIGINAL LEAGUE RULES (Originally written by Dave Morse, to cover both FFA and ACFL, and ratified by league votes in both leagues)
(2019 Note: The original rules printed immediately below -- between the two lines of asterisks -- have been copy/pasted here in order to make our list of rules more complete. But obviously some things have changed since Dave Morse wrote these rules, which were ratified by the league's owners at the time. If there is any conflict between the original rules and the updated rules that are printed below the "original rules", or any conflict with the scoring rules listed elsewhere on this website, priority will go to the more recently-written rule.)
********************************************************************************************************
These rules are maintained from year to year by The Commissioner. It is your responsibility to know the rules. Ignorance is no excuse. No biting, kicking or punching below the belt. However, name calling, false accusations, unwarranted, unprovoked verbal attacks and general banter is encouraged and expected.
Team Names
Team names must contain a non-fictional fixed location and then any name for your team.
Rosters
Your roster contains twenty (20) total spots.
Auction
We use an Auction style draft. Owners have a pool of $200 from which to bid on players. This money can be bartered, so an owner may have more or less than $200 entering an auction. Upon your turn, you must nominate a player for a minimum of $1. If you nominate a player, you are bidding on him for that amount. Bidding proceeds in increments of at least one whole dollar. Highest bidder wins the player. Max bid is dependent on each owner reserving a minimum of $1 for each open roster spot. Nominating order is the reverse order of the previous year's standings. Nominating order is circular (not snake).
You must draft (and always have on roster):
Two (2) DE/SPECIAL TEAM.
Also, you must maintain a roster that can field a full, valid, legal starting lineup. (Players or coaches on a bye still count toward the fulfillment of this rule.) Legal starting lineups are listed below.
Legal Starting Line-ups
Possible line-ups are as follows: (this is done to match as closely to the NFL as possible)
Standard: 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE 1 K 1 COACH 1 DEF/ST
1-3-1: 1 QB 1 RB 3 WR 1 TE 1 K 1 COACH 1 DEF/ST
Heavy Jumbo: 1 QB 2 RB 1 WR 2 TE 1 K 1 COACH 1 DEF/ST

League Play
You must submit a starting line-up each week. Players in your starting lineup must be entered before the kickoff of their game. Once a player's game has started, you may not bench that player. Your line up should be entered on the web site.
Your team will play head to head against an opponent each week.? You will receive points for that week's games only.? If your player gets injured on the first play, sorry Charlie!? If your player has a bye week, start someone else.
Schedule
The regular season is 14 weeks. With 8 teams, this means everyone plays everyone else twice. The eight teams are split into two divisions, with the teams in each division decided by the previous year's champion. The final three weeks of each season are always games within the division.
There are two (2) weeks of playoffs including the championship game. The championship game is in NFL week 16, not week 17. Four (4) teams make the Playoffs. The two (2) division winners with the best record are awarded 6-point home-field advantages for playoff week one (NFL week 13). Wild cards for the playoffs are awarded from the remaining teams with the best record regardless of division. The teams are seeded top to bottom and a normal bracket is announced prior to the start of the playoffs.
Seeding Teams
Seed 1 is the Division Winner with the best record.
Seed 2 is the Division Winner with the suckiest record.
Seed 3 is the wild card team with the best record.
Seed 4 is the wild card team with the second best record.
ACFL Playoffs Round One
Seed 4 plays seed 1 (with seed 1 having a 6-point home-field advantage)
Seed 3 plays seed 2 (with seed 2 having a 6-point home-field advantage)
ACFL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
Winners of Round One play each other, with no home field advantage.
Coaches
You may only make two (2) coaching changes during the season. Therefore, you will have a maximum of three different coaches during the year. You may only make a coaching change after a week when your fantasy team loses. (NFL teams usually do not cut their coach after he wins a game). Coaches may be traded at anytime, as long as there is a coach on both sides of the trade. If you trade to get a coach, you still may only have 3 different coaches during the year. You must have a coach on your roster at all times.
Note: An ill (or otherwise absent) coach gets credit for wins and losses whether he is on the sideline or not.
Weekly Trade Deadline
Trades may be made at any time. All trades must be balanced in terms of number of actual players involved on each side of the trade. You must always have exactly 20 players/coaches on your team.
Final Transaction and Trade Deadline
The final trade deadline is the first kickoff of week 11 of the NFL season. The transaction deadline is at the kickoff of the Monday night game of Week 14 of the NFL season (the last weekend of the ACFL regular season). There will be an extended transaction deadline for all teams that make the playoffs -- that deadline will be the kickoff of the first game of Week 15. The roster you have at that point (kickoff of first game of week 15) is the roster you will carry throughout the playoffs. There are no exceptions for injuries suffered during the ACFL playoff period. NO ROSTER CHANGES WHATSOEVER ONCE THE FIRST GAME OF WEEK 15 KICKS OFF!
Money
Entry fee is your share of the cost of the web site and the cost of draft supplies (draft kit).
General Provisions
In the event that there is a dispute over the rules or a situation arises that was not covered by these rules, it is the sole responsibility of the ACFL Commissioner to settle these disputes. If The ACFL Commissioner is part of the dispute, the commissioner may elect to designate a temporary "deputy commissioner" to resolve the dispute. This provision is openly ambiguous. Any decision to resolve a dispute may be acted upon by the ACFL Commissioner in any manner so chosen, including: general (non-binding) discussions among league owners, rule interpretations if needed, and official decrees. All decisions by the commissioner are binding. Except for the provision for a temporary "deputy commissioner," other league owners will have no say in terms of league decisions. No votes will ever be held during the season or at any time other than at the draft. League rules may, however, always be changed by votes of the league's owners at each year's draft. Each year's commissioner will be bound, in his decisions, to abide by the league rules decided upon by the league's owners at the draft. If there is a debate over the meaning of the established rules, then the commissioner will make the final decision by interpretation and/or decree, doing his best to interpret the meaning of the established rules in making his decision.
