Meibrys Viloria Jul 16 12:33am ET

The Kansas City Royals will promote C Meibrys Viloria from Double-A Northwest Arkansas to replace C Martin Maldonado (Cubs) on the 25-man roster.

Martin Maldonado Jul 16 12:33am ET

The Chicago Cubs acquired C Martin Maldonado from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for LHP Mike Montgomery on Monday, July 15.

Ender Inciarte Jul 16 12:30am ET

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said that outfielder Ender Inciarte (back) is expected to be activated from the injured list on the upcoming homestand that begins later this week. Inciarte has been out since May 14 and was hitting an ugly .218/.300/.323 with two homers, nine RBI, 13 runs and three stolen bases in 140 plate appearances. With Austin Riley, Ronald Acuna and Nick Markakis handling themselves in the outfield, Inciarte will likely return to a bench role. That means that whatever little fantasy value he might've had is basically all gone at this point.

Mike Montgomery Jul 16 12:23am ET

The Kansas City Royals acquired LHP Mike Montgomery from the Chicago Cubs on Monday, June 16. General manager Dayton Moore said Montgomery will go straight into the rotation to start Friday, July 19 against the Cleveland Indians.

Curt Casali Jul 16 12:23am ET

Cincinnati Reds C Curt Casali (knee) left the game Monday, July 16 against the Chicago Cubs due to right knee soreness. He said he could've stayed in if it was an emergency.

Brian Goodwin Jul 16 12:20am ET

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Brian Goodwin (wrist) is expected to be activated from the injured list on Tuesday, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Goodwin has been good for the Halos this year, hitting .276/.337/.434 with seven home runs, 39 runs, 25 RBI and three steals in 221 at-bats. However, his playing time will be more in question now that Justin Upton is the regular left fielder alongside Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun around the outfield. Consider him a bench option in AL-only leagues and in DFS formats when he's starting.

Martin Maldonado Jul 16 12:20am ET

The Chicago Cubs acquired catcher Martin Maldonado from the Kansas City Royals on Monday in exchange for pitcher Mike Montgomery. With Willson Contreras going on the injured list for Chicago, the Cubs wanted another backstop. He should share time with Victor Caratini as long as Contreras is on the shelf. Maldonado has struggled in his time with KC, hitting only .224/.288/.359 with six homers, 26 runs and 17 RBI in 237 at-bats on the season. His fantasy value may rise some in the short term, but not even to really consider him outside of deep two-catcher leagues. Montgomery, a lefty, has experience as a swingman. Even if he's making starts for the lowly Royals, he won't be much of a fantasy option.

Matt Carpenter Jul 16 12:10am ET

St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (foot) left the game early on Monday after fouling a ball off his right foot, but X-rays came back negative and he's considered day-to-day. Don't be surprised if the 33-year-old sits out a game or two. Carp had a single, run scored and two strikeouts in four plate appearances on Monday and has been one of the bigger fantasy busts in 2019. He's hitting only .215/.321/.372 with 10 home runs, 43 runs, 29 RBI and six steals in 343 plate appearances. At this point, Carpenter's trade value is down in the dumps.

    Tyler O'Neill Jul 16 12:10am ET

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill has an excellent night on Monday, going 3-for-4 with two home runs. He drove in four runs and scored two of his own. O'Neill has been on fire lately and should be started in all formats and selected in DFS lineups until he cools down. His slash line stands at .295/.329/.513.

Carlos Correa Jul 16 12:10am ET

Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa (ribs) and the team are hoping he can be activated from the injured list when he's eligible on July 26. He will remain with Triple-A Round Rock for another week. Infielder Aledmys Diaz's rehab assignment could go from four to seven games. Correa is a high-end fantasy shortstop, but injuries have gotten in the way a bit the last two years. Keep him stashed everywhere and get ready to return him to your lineups later this month. Diaz is mostly just an AL-only commodity as a utility man because of his unpredictable playing time.

Miles Mikolas Jul 16 12:10am ET

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas threw a shutout on Monday, going all nine innings while allowing eight hits. He didn't issue a walk and struck out three. Mikolas needed an even 100 pitches, just missing a Maddux by one pitch. It wasn't the most masterful shutout of the season, but it was still a strong performance by Mikolas, who improved to 6-9 and lowered his ERA to 4.15. He's not the pitcher he was last season, but this start was a good sign for Mikolas potentially being a valuable piece in the second half.

Jose Ramirez Jul 16 12:10am ET

Cleveland Indians infielder Jose Ramirez drove in two runs on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a double. Ramirez struggled throughout most of the first half, but he's been looking more and more like himself lately, raising his slash line to .225/.311/.360. He's still got a long way to go before his season numbers look respectable, but he's been a lot better if you only look back a few weeks.

    From RotoBaller

Oscar Mercado Jul 16 12:00am ET

Cleveland Indians rookie outfielder Oscar Mercado had an excellent game on Monday, going 3-for-5 with two home runs. He drove in two runs and scored two of his own, raising his slash line to an impressive .284/.332/.454. He's been impressive as a rookie and has developed legitimate fantasy value in most formats.

    From RotoBaller

Adam Plutko Jul 16 12:00am ET

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Adam Plutko wasn't great on Monday, tossing 5 1/3 innings while allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk. He only struck out one and coughed up three home runs. He escaped with a no decision, but his ERA shot up to 5.40. Plutko seemed like a decent spot starter in most formats because he got to take on the Tigers offense, but he missed the mark and probably shouldn't be trusted outside of the deepest of leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Brad Hand Jul 16 12:00am ET

Cleveland Indians closer Brad Hand earned his 25th save on Monday despite allowing a run. He ended up giving up the one run on two hits but struck out two. He closed out an 8-6 victory for Cleveland and moved his ERA to 2.29. Even if Cleveland acquires bullpen help, Hand's hold on the ninth inning seems to be safe.

    From RotoBaller

Bryan Reynolds Jul 15 11:50pm ET

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds went 3-for-4 in Monday's 7-0 loss to the Cardinals. Reynolds is now hitting .343 on the season and is starting to turn around a rough July with two consecutive multi-hit games. He needs to be owned in all fantasy formats.

    From RotoBaller

Joe Musgrove Jul 15 11:40pm ET

Pittsburgh Pirates starter Joe Musgrove (6-8) allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over 4 2/3 innings in Mondays 7-0 loss to the Cardinals. Musgrove's season ERA is up to 4.31, but he will look to bounce back and pitch closer to the 3.51 ERA he had in June.

    From RotoBaller

Jean Segura Jul 15 11:30pm ET

Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jean Segura (heel) injured his left heel in the ninth inning on Monday. He doesn't think the injury is serious, but he also received treatment for his foot after the game. Consider him day-to-day for now, but hopefully he won't have to miss more than a game or two. Segura was hitless with a strikeout in five plate appearances on Monday and is slashing .271/.315/.435 with 10 homers, 56 runs, 41 RBI and seven steals in 372 plate appearances. He's not running as much as his owners would've hoped, but he's still plenty useful in all fantasy formats.

    From RotoBaller

Chris Taylor Jul 15 11:20pm ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor (forearm) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a fractured left forearm after being hit by a pitch on Sunday night. It's a bummer for Taylor and the Dodgers, as he was hitting .370 with 12 extra-base hits, including three homers, and 17 RBI in the last 21 games. Infielder Matt Beatty was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Taylor has been effective in stretches for those in deep mixed and NL-only leagues as a utility hitter, batting .261 with eight long balls, 33 runs, 41 RBI and seven steals. Beatty could be useful as a low-price DFS flier when he's in the lineup.

James Paxton Jul 15 11:10pm ET

New York Yankees starter James Paxton had minimal offensive assistance Monday night during his home start against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 30-year-old allowed just two runs, both coming off home runs, in his six innings of work. Striking out seven in the process, he threw 107 pitches in what was a quality start. Unfortunately for him, he was out-dueled by the opposing starter, with his club's first run coming in the seventh inning, after he had thrown his last pitch. The Yankees would eventually take the lead and later blow it, but Paxton walked away with a no decision, his 5-4 record still intact.
