Trent Grisham Jul 28 4:00pm ET

San Diego Padres outfielder Trent Grisham and first baseman Eric Hosmer are not in the lineup Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics. Both left-handed batters will take a seat against southpaw starter Sean Manaea. Despite a solid .858 OPS against lefties, Grisham is hitting just .162 in his last 10 contests and will make way for utilityman Jurickson Profar. With 10 steals and only two homers in 303 plate appearances, Profar is just a DFS lottery ticket for speed. Infielder Jake Cronenworth will slide to first base in place of Hosmer, who will likely see more time on the bench with second baseman/outfielder Adam Frazier now in the mix. While Hosmer has been the subject of trade rumors, his absence from the lineup appears matchup-related. Without much power (eight homers) and a .712 OPS, Hosmer's stock will take a further hit as he sees fewer opportunities.

Trevor Story Jul 28 3:10pm ET

Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story's trade market has become much more active over the last 24 hours according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants are among the interested clubs, Morosi added. Both clubs make sense as a potential landing spot for the 28-year-old shortstop. He's been underwhelming this season as far as his rate stats are concerned with a .240/.311/.422 batting line but he's added 12 home runs, 46 RBI, 17 stolen bases, and 47 runs scored over 325 at-bats. Story would be leaving the friendly confines of Coors Field but would see much better protection while hitting in the middle of a contending lineup. This won't be the last update we get on Story ahead of Friday's trade deadline.

Kyle Seager Jul 28 2:50pm ET

Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager homered for the second straight day Tuesday, going 1-for-5 with a two-run shot off Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. in the first inning. Seager has quietly been quite productive in the power department this year with 20 homers, seven of which have come in the last 30 days. At just a .217 batting average and .288 OBP for the year, he won't contribute in many categories, but he'll be a cheap add for fantasy managers in need of home runs and RBI.

Jarred Kelenic Jul 28 2:50pm ET

Seattle Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic has had a simply dismal rookie campaign to this point, slashing .115/.200/.180 in his first 34 games and 122 at-bats, but he showed signs of life Tuesday night, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, not to mention a sparkling catch in center field to start a double play. It's Kelenic's second multi-RBI game of his career. He has plenty of ability, so fantasy managers have to be hoping he's finally making the adjustments necessary to have success. Fantasy managers in dynasty and keeper leagues should absolutely hold, but in redraft leagues, there may be better options out there.

Abraham Toro Jul 28 2:50pm ET

Seattle Mariners infielder Abraham Toro made his team debut Tuesday night, pinch-hitting and homering against his former team, the Houston Astros. In a strange turn of events, Toro homered on back-to-back nights to essentially the same spot in the ballpark, only on one night the homer came against the Mariners for the Astros, and the next it was the opposite, having been traded in a package to Seattle for Kendall Graveman. Toro has a .711 OPS on the season with seven homers and three steals, and he figures to see increased playing time and fantasy value in Seattle, unless he's moved yet again.

Jon Gray Jul 28 2:50pm ET

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray is drawing interest from the Giants, Padres, and Phillies according to Jon Morosi. He added that the Rockies are just listening so far and a trade likely won't go down until Max Scherzer is moved, which would help set Gray's market value. The 29-year-old Gray has been solid this year, posting a 3.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 91:40 K/BB ratio over 98 innings (18 starts). He would help bolster the rotation on a number of contending clubs and will become a free agent following this season.

Ryan Brasier Jul 28 2:40pm ET

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Ryan Brasier (calf, head) will throw a live bullpen session in Worcester, MA on Sunday. If he throws well in the BP then he will likely remain with the Triple-A club to pitch in some simulated games next week. He's yet to pitch in the majors this season while dealing with a concussion and a calf strain but it sounds like he should return by mid-August if all goes well. He put up a 3.96 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 30:11 K/BB across 25 innings last season. He won't have much value in fantasy as he won't operate as a closer but he'll be a boost to Boston's bullpen in real life.

    From RotoBaller

Chris Flexen Jul 28 2:40pm ET

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen had a poor outing Tuesday night, allowing seven runs on nine hits and no walks to the Houston Astros in four innings of work. He also struck out three batters, and was saddled with his fifth loss of the year. Flexen offers very little in the way of strikeouts, so run prevention is key in maintaining his fantasy value. With a 3.81 ERA and 1.25 WHIP on the season, he's best used as a streaming option in favorable matchups or two-start weeks.

    From RotoBaller

Julian Merryweather Jul 28 2:30pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Julian Merryweather (oblique) may not return to the bullpen this year, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. Reporters asked Montoyo on Wednesday if the team could expect Merryweather back this season and he replied with "that would be good, but we don't know ... right now it's not close." That doesn't sound very encouraging. Merryweather looked great in limited action (4 1/3 innings) back in April but suffered an oblique injury that sent him to the injured list. He then had a setback three weeks ago and has been shut down from baseball activities ever since. The Jays should remain cautious with the 29-year-old moving forward. He looked like a solid IL stash in fantasy leagues earlier this season but he can be dropped in redraft leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Lorenzo Cain Jul 28 2:30pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-5 with an RBI during Tuesday's win over the Pirates. Cain, who was activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday's game, put together two singles in his return, scoring a run for the Brewers in the first inning. The 35-year-old had been sidelined since June 1st with a strained right hamstring. Across 32 games this year, he's batting .231/.325/.352 with three home runs and four stolen bases. He's not having a particularly good season offensively, and he should be avoided in fantasy leagues of all formats.
