Mitch Haniger Jul 23 11:50am ET

Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger didn't look like himself during Thursday's game against the Oakland Athletics. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts at the plate during Thursday's 4-1 defeat. It was a frustrating day for the Mariners who managed just four total hits in this one. Despite a rough day at the plate, Haniger is normally a reliable fantasy bat. However, he could be a possible trade chip for Seattle at the deadline. It all depends on how the next week or so goes for the Mariners. Although, a change of scenery isn't going to help Haniger's fantasy value by much.

Ian Kennedy Jul 23 11:40am ET

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Ian Kennedy could be on the move within the next week or so. The veteran closer is one of the few trade pieces that Texas has to offer right now. The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly shown interest in acquiring Kennedy. This season, Kennedy has a 2.59 ERA and 33/7 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings. He has notched 15-of-16 save opportunities during the 2021 season. His fantasy value would likely take a hit with a move to the Dodgers. He wouldn't be asked to pitch in the ninth too often and would likely be a setup option. Fantasy managers benefitting off Kennedy for saves might only get a few more days of value out of him.

Kris Bryant Jul 23 11:40am ET

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant (hamstring) got back onto the field during Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He has been dealing with a lingering hamstring issue, but this was a positive sign. He came off the bench and recorded a walk in a pinch hit appearance versus lefty T.J. McFarland. Sadly, it was erased on a double play by Robinson Chirinos. Bryant had sat out each of the last two games before that. It's uncertain if the Cubs plan on getting him back into the lineup anytime soon. They probably don't want to risk an injury to their biggest trade chip right ahead of the trade deadline.

Orlando Arcia Jul 23 11:30am ET

Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia has struggled during a majority of his time with the big league club. However, he finally had something go his way during Thursday's win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Arcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run off lefty Matt Moore in the fourth inning. It was Arcia's second home run of the season and gives him nine runs batted in with Atlanta. Despite a nice swing on Thursday, Arcia has not been reliable at the plate and can be ignored in most fantasy formats.

    From RotoBaller

Joc Pederson Jul 23 11:30am ET

Atlanta Braves outfielder Joc Pederson was unable to get much going at the plate during Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. In fact, Pederson went 0-for-5 at the plate versus lefty Matt Moore. To be fair, Pederson does not hit left pitching well, so this wasn't an ideal matchup for him. He has already shown he can be a nice power bat for Atlanta. However, there are going to be plenty of these hitless contests, especially against left-handed pitching. Sadly, the Braves don't have a lot of depth in the outfield, so Pederson will continue to get at-bats. Fantasy managers know what they will get from Pederson at this point.

Ronald Torreyes Jul 23 11:20am ET

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Ronald Torreyes had a perfect day at the plate on Thursday, going 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in a loss to Atlanta. Torreyes has filled in admirably at the hot corner, but his days as a starter are numbered as Alec Bohm (COVID) is starting a rehab assignment and will be back with the Phillies soon. Torreyes is a strong defender and a valuable bench infielder, but he's not much of a fantasy asset with a sub-.400 career slugging percentage. Torreyes is best left on waivers in fantasy.

    From RotoBaller

Max Muncy Jul 23 11:20am ET

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy will be placed on the paternity leave list ahead of Friday's game against the Colorado Rockies. His wife is due to give birth to his first child, so he'll leave to go be with her. Muncy won't be available for the weekend series, so fantasy managers can take him out of their lineups. He'll likely return for their series against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.

    From RotoBaller

Matt Moore Jul 23 11:00am ET

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Matt Moore allowed six runs in six innings in a loss to the Braves on Thursday. Moore actually wasn't terrible in this one aside from one inning that culminated with a grand slam off the bat of Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson. All the runs count, however, and Moore's ERA rose to 5.79 despite having his longest outing this season. Moore is best served in a long-relief role and he is the obvious candidate to leave the rotation if Philly trades for a starter before the July 31 trade deadline. Moore is not a fantasy option at this point.

    From RotoBaller

Mark Canha Jul 23 10:50am ET

Oakland Athletics outfielder Mark Canha went 2-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in a win over the Mariners on Thursday. The A's look like a completely different lineup with Canha back in the leadoff spot after he missed a little over a month with a hip injury. The veteran outfielder has a strong 12.1 percent walk rate which has led to a .383 on-base percentage to set the table for a good A's offense. He's got eight steals on the season and has scored 57 runs in just 79 games as Canha has been supremely valuable to fantasy managers in category-based leagues. Start Canha with confidence for the rest of this weekend series in Seattle.

    From RotoBaller

Josh Rojas Jul 23 10:20am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks utility player Josh Rojas is not in the lineup for Friday's series opener with the Cubs. This looks to simply be a day off for Rojas, who has started in 12 straight and 18 of the team's last 19 games. He's been a solid play in 12-team and deeper formats this year, slashing .268/.356/.438 with 10 home runs, seven steals, 28 RBI and 50 runs scored over 93 games. Rojas started at second base on Wednesday night, but with Rojas out Josh VanMeter now takes over there and will bat leadoff against Chicago starter Zach Davies.

Luis Patino Jul 23 10:20am ET

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Luis Patino allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision versus Cleveland on Thursday. He wasn't sharp on Thursday, and most of the damage off Patino came from a three-run blast by Franmil Reyes in the third inning. The Guardians were able to tack on another run-off Patino in the fourth frame to give them a 4-1 lead. The 21-year-old threw 98 pitches, landing 66 for strikes. Patino owns a 5.26 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and a 28:8 K: BB across 25 2/3 innings in 2021. Despite struggling on Thursday, the Rays prospect has a 3.65 xERA and a 24.9 K%. It's unclear if Patino will stick into the rotation or be sent back down to the minors, making him a stash in dynasty leagues formats.

    From RotoBaller

Zac Gallen Jul 23 10:20am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen will have a nice matchup with the Chicago Cubs when he takes the mound in the series opener on Friday afternoon. The Cubs have struggled at the plate recently, as they are slashing .216/.307/.334 and averaging 3.7 runs per game over their last 10 games. On top of this, Chicago is hitting significantly worse against right-handed pitching this year (.218/.298/.384) than against left-handers (.245/.322/.407), and their 26.3 percent team strikeout rate is fourth-highest in the majors. This will definitely be a matchup that managers should take advantage of in fantasy and in DFS.

    From RotoBaller

Sean Murphy Jul 23 10:20am ET

Oakland Athletics catcher Sean Murphy went 2-for-5 with an RBI double in a win over the Mariners on Thursday. Murphy is batting a measly .217 this season, but has contributed in the RBI department with 45 on the season which ranks second among catchers. Murphy is making hard contact 35.8 percent of the time and his .254 BABIP is the lowest of his career, so he could raise his BA a little down the stretch which would make him a valuable catcher at fantasy baseball's weakest position. He's got three good matchups lined up this weekend in Seattle making Murphy a start-worthy catcher in fantasy.

    From RotoBaller

Kenta Maeda Jul 23 10:10am ET

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Kenta Maeda registered a quality start in Thursday's loss to the Angels. Maeda went a season-high seven innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits with no walks. He fanned six batters and induced 12 whiffs, half of them on his splitter, which kept the Angels' hitters off-balance. It would have been nice to see Maeda get the win after the solid performance, but fantasy managers can take solace in the fact that he has legitimately turned his season around. Maeda has recorded a 31.4 percent K-BB percentage with a 2.35 ERA across 23 innings pitched over his last four starts, looking like the ace pitcher from last season. He'll be a must-start in all formats in his next start against the Tigers, having struck out 15 batters in his last two starts against them.

    From RotoBaller

Diego Castillo Jul 23 10:00am ET

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Diego Castillo struck out two over a perfect inning to earn the save during Thursday's 5-4 extra-inning win over Cleveland. He entered the game in the 10th inning and tossed a perfect inning to secure his 14th save of the season. The 27-year-old has not allowed an earned run in his last eight innings. He owns a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 49:10 K: BB across 35 1/3 innings in 2021. Castillo shares closing duties with Pete Fairbanks but has racked up 14 saves and three holds this season and is the primary reliever to roster in the Rays' bullpen.

    From RotoBaller

Ramon Laureano Jul 23 10:00am ET

Oakland Athletics outfielder Ramon Laureano went 2-for-5 with two RBI in a win over the Mariners on Thursday. Laureano now has six hits and six RBI across his last four games as the outfielder is heating back up after being stuck in an extended slump. On the season, Laureano is slashing .242/.316/.446 with 14 homers, 40 runs, 37 RBI and 11 steals as he does a little bit of everything for fantasy. He bats second for a good A's lineup so he should continue to see plenty of run and RBI chances down the stretch. Laureano should be started in fantasy with three good matchups lined up this weekend in Seattle.

    From RotoBaller

Giancarlo Stanton Jul 23 9:50am ET

New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton plated a run for the fourth straight game in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox. Stanton came up with a key hit, giving the Yankees the lead on an RBI single in the eighth inning. He seems to be picking things up at the plate lately, going 5-for-18 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored over his last four games, though he has also been a far less disciplined hitter at the plate this month, with a 19:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Stanton will likely play the outfield on Saturday, something the Yankees want him to get accustomed to doing.

    From RotoBaller

Gleyber Torres Jul 23 9:40am ET

New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres collected a pair of RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox. Torres was a part of a small-ball approach, driving in one run on a groundout and another on a sacrifice fly. The 24-year-old also extended his hitting streak to five games, reaching on an infield single and getting an excellent jump on a steal attempt, swiping second base standing up. Torres has produced three homers, seven RBI, four runs scored, and two stolen bases over his last seven contests. He makes for a strong DFS play on Friday against Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. Torres has a .261 batting average and .723 OPS against southpaws this season.

    From RotoBaller

Cody Bellinger Jul 23 9:40am ET

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger went 0-for-4 in Thursday's loss versus the San Francisco Giants. Bellinger has been a major disappointment for managers this season and is now hitless in his last 25 at-bats. Bellinger has dealt with two stints on the injured list this season and is hitting a weak .152 with four home runs, 19 RBI and four stolen bases in 145 at-bats. With his current struggles, managers don't have a choice other than to remain patient and hope that he finds his stride. Given his past history, he should still be rostered, but it's becoming tough to start him on an everyday basis when he is consistently failing at the plate. Bellinger will look to get things going versus the Rockies this weekend.

    From RotoBaller

Lou Trivino Jul 23 9:40am ET

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Lou Trivino pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday to pick up his 16th save of the season. Trivino allowed a leadoff single, but picked up a strikeout and two ground outs to preserve a 4-1 win for the visitors. The right-hander has been excellent this season, converting 16 saves in 18 chances with a crisp 1.91 ERA. Since May 8, Trivino has allowed just two runs in 29 2/3 innings as he's established himself as a must-roster reliever in fantasy. Lefty setup man Jake Diekman may steal the occasional save if the opposition has left-handed batters due up, but Trivino has seen the majority of the saves in Oakland and is the clear-cut fantasy option in this 'pen.
