Evan Longoria Jul 23 9:20pm ET

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (shoulder) has begun hitting progression and other baseball activities. The veteran has been on the 60-day injured list because of a left shoulder sprain, which is unfortunate considering he was batting .280 before going down with the injury. Longoria is eligible to return sometime in August, so fantasy managers with room to spare should keep him on the roster.

Eduardo Rodriguez Jul 23 9:13pm ET

Boston Red Sox LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (head) exited against the New York Yankees due to migraine symptoms Friday, July 23.

Sammy Long Jul 23 9:10pm ET

San Francisco Giants pitcher Sammy Long (back) felt good after throwing another bullpen session on Thursday, logging 30 pitches in total. The lefty has been out since the start of July because of a back strain, so it seems like things are moving in the right direction. However, the 26-year-old has struggled this year, posting a miserable 5.63 ERA throughout 24 innings of work. Although there is upside in certain situations, Long doesn't have much value as a routine fantasy option.

Eduardo Rodriguez Jul 23 8:53pm ET

Boston Red Sox LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (undisclosed) left the game early Friday, July 23, because of an undisclosed injury.

Jaylin Davis Jul 23 8:50pm ET

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jaylin Davis (hamstring) will report to Triple-A over the weekend to begin his rehab assignment. Davis has been out for a few weeks because of a Grade 1 hamstring strain, so it appears as if he is very close to possibly making it back to the big club. Davis also battled a knee injury this season and is currently batting .111 throughout only nine plate appearances. He isn't worth much from a fantasy perspective, but that could change if he snags a more prominent role moving forward.

Aaron Sanchez Jul 23 8:40pm ET

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez (biceps) took a beating during his latest rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento. The 29-year-old logged just over five innings of service against Tacoma, allowing five runs off of eight hits while striking out four batters. Although things obviously could have gone better, the righty is moving in the right direction after going down with tendinitis at the beginning of May. Sanchez doesn't currently have a return date. However, he will likely need to improve before the team is ready to bring him back to the big club.

Eduardo Rodriguez Jul 23 8:20pm ET

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez exited Friday's contest against the New York Yankees. The lefty lasted only one inning before his premature exit. However, it's unknown exactly what he is dealing with, so fantasy managers may have to wait for an explanation. He was subsequently replaced by Phillips Valdez, with more information on Rodriguez's status likely to come by Saturday.

    From RotoBaller

Brendan Rodgers Jul 23 7:50pm ET

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers was scratched from Friday's lineup for an undisclosed reason. Rodgers was in the original lineup, slated to bat second against left-hander David Price, but was replaced in the batting order by Josh Fuentes about three hours before the first pitch. Ryan McMahon has shifted over to second base, Fuentes is covering third, and Garrett Hampson is now batting second. The team should provide an update on Rodgers soon.

Domingo Tapia Jul 23 7:43pm ET

Kansas City Royals RHP Domingo Tapia was recalled from Class AAA Omaha Friday, July 23.

Max Kranick Jul 23 7:30pm ET

The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned right-hander Max Kranick to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday and activated right-hander Luis Oviedo (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Kranick was solid in his major league debut on June 27 in five shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals, but he's come back down to Earth in his two most recent starts against the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks, allowing seven earned runs while walking four and striking out eight in six innings. The team's No. 26 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will likely be back this year and can throw strikes, but he doesn't have a pitch that jumps off the page just yet, limiting his fantasy upside as a streamer.

Hirokazu Sawamura Jul 23 7:23pm ET

Boston Red Sox RHP Hirokazu Sawamura (triceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, July 23, because of triceps inflammation. The team also recalled RHP Phillips Valdez from Class AAA Worcester.

Phillips Valdez Jul 23 7:23pm ET

Luis Oviedo Jul 23 7:23pm ET

Chris Owings Jul 23 7:20pm ET

Colorado Rockies infielder Chris Owings (thumb) underwent surgery to fix mallet finger on his left thumb on Friday, according to interim manager Mike Redmond, but the team doesn't have a timetable for his return. There's a good chance we won't see Owings on the field again at the major league level this season. The 29-year-old had a great .326/.420/.628 slash line with the Rockies, but it came in only 43 at-bats with a homer, five RBI and two stolen bases. There's no reason to hold onto him, even in NL-only leagues, especially without a firm timetable for a return. Expect Brendan Rodgers and Ryan McMahon to continue sharing playing time in Colorado at the keystone.

Hirokazu Sawamura Jul 23 7:20pm ET

The Boston Red Sox placed right-hander Hirokazu Sawamura (triceps) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with right triceps inflammation and recalled right-hander Phillips Valdez from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Sawamura has been a solid piece for the Red Sox bullpen with his 2.87 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 44/18 K/BB in 37 2/3 relief innings in his first year in Beantown. However, the 33-year-old Japanese reliever is much more valuable in real life to the Red Sox than for fantasy managers. There is no timetable for his return. Valdez has a 4.24 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 21/12 K/BB in 23 1/3 innings over 20 relief appearances for the Red Sox in 2021, but he can also be ignored in fantasy.
