I have no idea. Was wondering the same thing myself. My guess is it was allowed during draft but not allowed once draft concluded, therefore traded #1 picks during inaugural draft are still able to be traded but not for anyone else…just a guess though.

Asorioles fan I watch him all the time lots of great ABs the past month. Last week, he had a game where 3 of his outs were all over 100Mph. He is a great young player. Enjoy him along with your potential Cy Young candidates. In happy to have Holliday on other teams. Makes this one sting less.

USA, do your research before condemning Holliday. He is a future Witt type player, plus i gave up 2 26/27 year old Cy Young caliber pitchers. Look at what Trout, Henderson, Cowser and many others have done their first 500 ABs. Chourio was awful for two + months before figuring it out and he got to play pretty much every day. Well USA, I am so glad that you think you can can see into the future and that your sources know all. Rotoballer has Holliday as the 66th overall dynasty player, all positions. Fantasy pros has Holliday as the #4 dynasty 2nd baseman. The list goes on. I am looking to youth and to build a pitching staff, this is how I chose to do it.

I would suggest that you concentrate on your 8th place team and not worry so much about the tenth place team.

I'm sorry, but Holliday has fallen precipitously on any legitimate website that ranks dynasty players.  And yes, I understand that Holliday WAS a #1 overall pick, and his brother will likely be a top 5 pick in the upcoming draft, but I can give you dozens of examples of former prospects who didn't live up to expectations.  Either way, Holliday does not make this a fair trade.  (And I have Holliday in other leagues, so I hope that he makes me eat my words!)  But Bobby Witt is Jackson Holliday times 100 in fantasy baseball.  That trade would have been sketchy, but acceptable, if ALL you gave up was Bobby Witt and some throw-in players. But your trade likely gave the title to the team that was already in first place.

Just seems like a judgement type of trade, like giving up on Harper maybe?  Harper for a top closer is fine to me but I think Fairbanks falls well below "a top closer" and the pick is overkill.  However, only results will tell the story in the end. 

I haven't checked, but maybe Mizada needs saves and Fairbanks will stay healthy for a whole season for once while Harper underwhelms thanks to the wrist issue. 

I am disappointed I missed out on Harper though!  Given the trade that went through maybe I had a chance if I only tried.  This trade is an example of why I always try.

Giving up only two picks to get four leaves the draft uneven draft number.  It will stall you out in the last rounds.  You would have to trade 37-40 for someones 36th or something like that.  I don't mind giving up 11-14, but need more back than just a 24th.

Trading Witt: 

I am going to try to get a package with 5 or more picks and I give picks on the back end.  Trying to obtain several picks by starting lower in the draft than a 1st or 2nd round.  So, whoever I make a deal with will keep their premium picks.  Back-end picks likely in the late teens to early 30's...maybe a 19 and a 31.  Ultimately, I plan net additional picks.  All negotiable and maybe someone has a different idea.
