Only a couple days will be left before the MLB trading deadline after Week 17 ends. By next Sunday, July 28th, there should be a clearer picture of who will be making trades.
Only three teams are playing five games this coming week and all are part of inter-league games on Tuesday and Wednesday and off on Monday and Thursday. Atlanta will host Kansas City, so red hot DH Jorge Soler could lose at bats. The Dodgers will host their crosstown rivals, the Angels (Pujols and Ohtani become watchers), and the Phillies head to Detroit, so they gain a hitter. The other inter-league games will be in St. Louis over the weekend, so the Astros will be without a hitter (Yordy Alvarez has been the DH).
Thirteen teams will play six games; Arizona, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati, Miami, Milwaukee, New York Mets, San Diego, San Francisco, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles Angels, Tampa and Toronto. Fourteen teams will play seven games, including Colorado, which will play all seven on the road.
The countdown to the trading deadline continues this week. Keep an eye out as some major players could be moving. And with them, their fantasy values, especially relief pitchers. If a closer, such as Will Smith, Shane Green, Javier Vasquez, etc., goes to a team like the Dodgers or Yankees, they’ll be in a setup role and the saves will come to a halt. Keep an eye out for the next guy in line, he may be your best choice to replace the saves you lost.
Have a great week!
