From The Godfather: Week 5 Advice

The schedule makers have only three teams with five games this coming week; San Diego, Toronto and San Francisco. The Giants also get five interleague games with two at Toronto and three at home against the Yankees. So no DH for the dinged up Bronx Bombers, who might be adding Aaron Judge to their disabled list. Seattle also loses the DH at San Diego. Most teams have six games, with nine having all seven; Texas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York Yankees, Angels, Houston, Detroit, Boston and Arizona.

If he’s available on your waiver wire, pick up the red hot Jose Martinez. With Cardinals injuries to Harrison Bader and Tyler O’Neill, he should get regular playing time in the St. Louis outfield.

Players close to and returning this week include Daniel Murphy in Colorado. With Ryan McMahon back, it appears speedster Garrett Hampton will be the odd man out. He’s hitting below .200, so he could be sent down to the minors and is now droppable in all leagues.

A sneaky stash could be Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, available to be activated May 1st. Javier Baez could be moved over to second base to get Russell in the lineup.

Just in time, the Yankees have three players almost ready to go; catcher Gary Sanchez, outfielder Mike Stanton and third baseman Miguel Andujar. If Andujar can’t handle the hot corner, look for him to play first base or DH, as the Yankees want his bat in the lineup, especially if Judge is out.

Second base in Boston will be interesting this week as the Red Sox have called up top prospect Michael Chavis, who was hitting .265 with four home runs and 6 RBI at AAA. They also brought up Tzu-Wei Lin, who has gotten the first two starts at second base with Dustin Pedoria out. It looks like a platoon situation, so temper your bid for the prized rookie.

My top streaming pitcher pick for the week is Brad Peacock, returning to the Astros rotation with two home starts against the Twins and Indians. Phillies Jake Arrieta gets a start against the Mets (Steve Matz) in New York and at home against Miami. The Braves Kevin Gausman gets a start in Cincy and home against the Rockies.

Two other interesting two starts are Diamondbacks Luke Weaver at Pittsburgh and home against the Cubs, and Royals Homer Bailey at Tampa Bay and home against the Angels. Ranger starter Mike Minor has two road starts at Oakland and Seattle, and with both lineups predominantly left-handed hitters, the crafty southpaw could fair well in both games.

Have a great week 5!
