From The Godfather: Week 4

The mad bat virus has struck again.  Just when you thought it was safe to keep all your players in your lineup, the mad bat made a visit to Minnesota and Houston.  The Twins series against the Angels was wiped out this past weekend, and their game Monday at Oakland has already been cancelled. The rest of the series is in jeopardy, so think twice about playing Twins and Athletic players this week.  Andrelton Simmons and Kyle Garlick are two players that tested positive and will be out at least 10 days.

I would also be nervous about the Astros.  They have the day off Monday before traveling to Colorado for Tuesday and Wednesday games.  They replaced five players on their roster. Alex Bergman is out because of the virus and Jose Altuve is on the DL.

There are 22 teams scheduled to play six games this coming week.  If you’re looking for an advantage, Boston, Los Angeles Angels, San Diego and San Francisco are set for seven while Atlanta, Baltimore, Toronto and Colorado will only play five.  But the Rockies games are all at home, which means their hitters could easily put up more stats in five than others in six or seven if the snow stays away and they can play.

If you’re searching for some pitching help and someone with two starts this coming week, Josh Fleming might be your guy. While not highly regarded, the rookie southpaw had a good first outing and is penciled in to start at Kansas City and Toronto.  Take note however of rookie pitchers inconsistency. After stellar outings by Huascar Ynoa and Casey Mize last week, their next outings were disasters.

A few pitchers just off the IL that could be worth a roster spot once they get their sea legs are Kwang-Hyun Kim and Kyle Wright.  Stash them now.

And a couple pitchers off to surprising good starts that might be on your waiver wire are JT Brubaker, Justus Sheffield, Alex Cobb, Freddie Peralta, Wade Miley and Aaron Sanchez.  Get them while you can.

Others players this week to be nervous about after coming out of games are Christian Yelich (who went on DL), Starling Marte and Ronald Acuna.  These stars are not shining brightly.

In the bullpen, it looks like the save opportunities in Toronto will now go to Rafael Dolis. Get him while you can!

Have a great week and hopefully the mad bat won’t cause anymore havoc!
