Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes was scratched from his Monday night start against the New York Mets due to shoulder inflammation.

Right-hander Ryne Nelson will start in Burnes' place.

Burnes, 30, has experienced issues with his pitching shoulder in recent outings, and the team sent him back to Phoenix during last week's eastern road trip to undergo an MRI exam.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said nothing serious was detected.

"Just some right shoulder inflammation," Lovullo said of the results. "Just very normal for what pitchers go through at this point in time. You know, honestly, Corbin has been dealing with this for a couple starts, he's just been really grinding it out. And that's who he is, just a true professional and he wanted the baseball."

A four-time All-Star and the 2021 Cy Young Award winner in the National League with the Milwaukee Brewers, Burnes is in his first season with the Diamondbacks after signing a six-year, $210 million contract in the offseason.

Burnes is 1-1 with a 3.58 ERA in six starts this season. He gave up one run and four hits over six innings but walked five batters while beating the Mets on Wednesday before leaving the team.

The Diamondbacks are hopeful Burnes will be able to make his Saturday start against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Nelson, 27, is 1-0 with a 5.82 ERA in seven relief appearances covering 17 innings this season. He started 52 games over the past two seasons.
