New York Mets pitcher Clay Holmes suffered a fractured fibula during Friday night's game, manager Carlos Mendoza revealed following the Mets' 5-2 loss to the crosstown rival Yankees.

Holmes, 4-3 with a 1.86 ERA entering the contest, had his worst outing of the season, surrendering four runs on seven hits to go along with two walks and eight strikeouts.

His night got worse when he took a comebacker from the Yankees' Spencer Jones off his right foot in the fourth inning.

Holmes will be sidelined "for a long time," Mendoza told reporters postgame.

Trainers came out to check on Holmes, but he managed to close out the inning, striking out two and inducing an Aaron Judge popout.

Holmes added another out in the fifth inning and exited having thrown 95 pitches, despite the injury.

Holmes' injury continues a season of misfortune for the 18-26 Mets, who have dealt with a litany of injuries, including the likes of Luis Robert Jr. (back), Francisco Lindor (calf), Jorge Polanco (Achilles/wrist), Francisco Alvarez (meniscus) all being on the injured list.
