Kawhi Leonard scored 32 points with 12 rebounds and the Los Angeles Clippers snapped an eight-game home losing streak with a 103-88 win over the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday at Inglewood, Calif.
The Lakers not only opened the game without three starters in Deandre Ayton (elbow), Rui Hachimura (groin) and Austin Reaves (calf), but Luka Doncic was ruled out after halftime with a left leg contusion.
James Harden collected 21 points with 10 assists and John Collins added 17 points with 12 rebounds for the Clippers, who also ended a four-game losing streak against the crosstown Lakers. The Clippers, who lost center Ivica Zubac to a left ankle injury in the first quarter, won a home game for the first time since Oct. 31.
LeBron James scored a season-high 36 points for the Lakers, while Doncic had 12 in 20 minutes before departing. Jake LaRavia had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who are 4-4 this month after closing November on a seven-game winning streak.
Rockets 115, Nuggets 101
Kevin Durant scored 31 points, Reed Sheppard went 6-for-9 on 3-pointers on his way to 28 points and visiting Houston defeated Denver.
A 27-16 second quarter advantage put the Rockets ahead for good. Jabari Smith Jr. had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Amen Thompson contributed 16 points and Steven Adams pulled down 12 rebounds for Houston, which tied a season-high with 19 3-pointers to end a four-game road losing streak.
Nikola Jokic scored 25 points, Jamal Murray finished with 16, Bruce Brown had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Jonas Valanciunas and Jalen Pickett had 10 points each for the Nuggets, who had their six-game winning streak snapped. Denver, which has won 11 straight on the road, has dropped five of its last seven at home.
76ers 121, Mavericks 114
Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe combined for 64 points, including all 11 in a fourth quarter burst that propelled Philadelphia to a home win over Dallas.
Maxey finished with a game-high 38 points, Edgecombe added 26 and Dominick Barlow had 21 for the 76ers, who were able to win for the fifth time in their last seven games despite the absence of Joel Embiid and Paul George.
Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg had 24 points apiece and Naji Marshall 22 for the Mavericks, who forged the third tie of the fourth quarter at 104-all on a Flagg jumper in the fourth minute of the period before Philadelphia took charge. Maxey gave the hosts the lead for good on a driving floater with 8:42 remaining.
Celtics 112, Raptors 96
Payton Pritchard scored 19 of his 33 points in the third quarter and added 10 assists and eight rebounds as visiting Boston defeated Toronto.
Derrick White and Anfernee Simons each added 15 points for the Celtics, who won two straight on a back-to-back and have won seven of their last nine. Jaylen Brown (illness) did not play.
Brandon Ingram and Sandro Mamukelashvili each scored 24 for the Raptors, who have dropped five of seven. Scottie Barnes added 12 points and nine rebounds. Jakob Poeltl (back) was out.
Pelicans 128, Pacers 109
Zion Williamson scored 29 points off the bench as New Orleans extended its season-high winning streak to four with a rout of visiting Indiana.
Williamson's game-high scoring performance came on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor with 11-of-13 made at the foul line. Derik Queen led the Pelicans with 10 rebounds and scored 17 points for his second double-double in as many contests. Queen also shot a perfect 8 of 8 from the floor.
Pascal Siakam scored 22 points to lead the Pacers, who lost for the fourth time in a row. Johnny Furphy (18 points) and T.J. McConnell (16 points, 8 assists) helped off the bench.
Wizards 130, Grizzlies 122
CJ McCollum and Kyshawn George scored 28 points apiece and visiting Washington overcame a 20-point first-half deficit to defeat Memphis.
The Wizards, who got 18 points and 11 rebounds from Alex Sarr, snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Grizzlies in Memphis and won for the first time at FedExForum since January 2018.
Santi Aldama scored a career-high 37 points with 10 boards and Jaren Jackson Jr. added 22 to lead the injury-riddled Grizzlies. Cam Spencer finished with 19 points and 11 assists. Memphis, which played without star Ja Morant (ankle), had won seven of its previous nine games.
Pistons 112, Hornets 86
Cade Cunningham recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as host Detroit pulled away Charlotte.
The Pistons shot 44.1% from the field for the game and outscored the Hornets 33-14 in the fourth quarter. Jalen Duren supplied 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Tobias Harris had 16 points. Duncan Robinson tossed in 15 points and Ausar Thompson had 14 while keying the defense with four blocks and three steals.
Kon Knueppel and Miles Bridges led Charlotte with 19 points apiece. Brandon Miller added 14 points for the Hornets, who shot 31.5% from the field and committed 24 turnovers.
Magic 128, Jazz 127 (OT)
Desmond Bane drove for a go-ahead layup with 0.9 seconds left in overtime to lift Orlando past Utah in Salt Lake City.
Bane led the Magic with 32 points and six rebounds. Paolo Banchero added 23 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and two blocks. Anthony Black chipped in 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Noah Penda tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
Keyonte George led the Jazz with 27 points and nine assists. Svi Mykhailiuk added 23 points while reserve Isaiah Collier had 18 points and nine assists. Kevin Love chipped in 16 points and a season-high 16 rebounds off the bench. Lauri Markkanen, Utah's top scorer, missed a second straight game with a right groin injury.
Warriors 119, Suns 116
Stephen Curry had 28 points and Jimmy Butler III 25 as Golden State avenged a road loss two days earlier with a victory over Phoenix in the second half of a home-and-home sequence in San Francisco.
Curry compiled a game-high 10 rebounds and a game-high-tying six assists for the Warriors, who lost Draymond Green to an ejection early in the second quarter, seconds after falling behind by 14.
Devin Booker led all scorers with 38 points and Dillon Brooks added 22 for the Suns, who had overcome a 14-point Golden State lead to post a 99-98 home win on Thursday.
Trail Blazers 98, Kings 93
Deni Avdija recorded 24 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds to help Portland notch a win over host Sacramento to sweep a home-and-home set.
Shaedon Sharpe had 23 points, Toumani Camara added 15 points and four steals while Donovan Clingan registered 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who won their third straight game and had beaten the Kings 134-133 in overtime at home on Thursday.
Sacramento's Dennis Schroder had 21 points and six assists off the bench and rookie Maxime Raynaud had 17 points and matched his career best with 11 rebounds for the second straight game. The Kings lost their fifth straight game and 22nd in 28 overall this season.
Detroit's G Cade Cunningham recorded a triple-double, finishing with 22 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in a 112-86 win over the Hornets on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Chicago Bulls center Jalen Smith (quadriceps) carries a probable tag on the injury report ahead of a clash against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday. He is dealing with a left quadriceps contusion. However, Smith has played in each of the last four games, and the probable tag suggests he will remain in the lineup against Atlanta. Over his last four outings, Smith has posted 4.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 15.0 minutes per game. He lacks fantasy appeal as long as Chicago's starting center, Nikola Vucevic, stays healthy. On Sunday, Vucevic and Smith could dominate the glass against the Hawks, who have the NBA's fourth-lowest rebounding rate.
Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (ankle) has been tagged as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. White has overcome calf issues but is now nursing an ankle problem. He has played in six consecutive contests, averaging 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 28.2 minutes per game. Tre Jones and Ayo Dosunmu (thumb) may have a larger workload if White misses Sunday's game. The latter has joined White on the injury report but is expected to play. White's absence would also increase the offensive usage of Josh Giddey.
Chicago Bulls guard/forward Ayo Dosunmu (thumb) is listed as probable for Sunday's tilt against the Atlanta Hawks. On Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dosunmu returned to the lineup after missing three games due to thumb injuries. He was eased back into action, logging 14 minutes off the bench. He had eight points, three assists, and one steal. Before the game, it was announced that Dosunmu was under a 24-minute restriction. His workload could increase on Sunday, which would naturally boost his numbers.
Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins (back) is considered questionable for Sunday's Eastern Conference clash against the New York Knicks. The veteran is experiencing lower back pain, which could sideline him for a second straight game. Wiggins' absence on Friday against the Boston Celtics gave Jaime Jaquez Jr. a chance to make his first start of the campaign. He had a horrible shooting night, hitting 5-for-15 from the field, but still managed a decent fantasy line with 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Simone Fontecchio, who produced 12 points in 30 minutes off the bench against Boston, also benefits from Wiggins' absence.
Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro (toe) will be sidelined for a fourth consecutive game on Sunday against the New York Knicks. He has been battling a toe injury for a while, appearing in only one of Miami's last six games. With Davion Mitchell (ankle) also out, Kasparas Jakucionis made his first career start on Friday against the Boston Celtics, producing a productive 36-minute effort. Jakucionis may see more minutes again on Sunday, since Mitchell is still listed on the injury report, tagged as questionable.
Miami Heat point guard Davion Mitchell (ankle) has been listed as questionable for a meeting with the New York Knicks on Sunday. Due to an ankle sprain, Mitchell skipped Friday's loss to the Boston Celtics and may now miss a second consecutive game. Mitchell's absence allowed Kasparas Jakucionis to make his first career start, and the 19-year-old had a great time. In 36 minutes of action, Jakucionis tallied 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. He could have an expanded role again on Sunday, especially with Tyler Herro (toe) already ruled out.
Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young (knee) is not on the injury report for Sunday's meeting with the Chicago Bulls. After returning from a knee injury, Young sat out the second leg of a back-to-back on Friday against the San Antonio Spurs. In his return to action a day earlier against the Charlotte Hornets, Young logged only 20 minutes, so the team is being cautious with him. He finished Thursday's game with eight points and 10 assists. Nickeil Alexander-Walker will drop back to the bench on Sunday, but he will remain an attractive fantasy option.
Sacramento Kings forward Doug McDermott (knee) is available for Saturday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. He was initially listed as questionable for the game as the veteran is dealing with a sore left knee. McDermott has not had much of an opportunity to show his talents this season, logging only 11 minutes across two appearances. He will likely remain out of the regular rotation on Saturday night, even with Domantas Sabonis (knee), Zach LaVine (ankle), and Drew Eubanks (thumb) unavailable.
Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant (Achilles) has been ruled out for Saturday's encounter with the Sacramento Kings. The veteran has had a heavy workload lately and will take Saturday night off due to a sore left Achilles tendon. Portland listed Grant as questionable on the initial injury report. Kris Murray has been announced as Grant's replacement in the starting lineup. While a starting role increases Murray's fantasy appeal, his numbers haven't improved much in the first unit. Across three previous starts this season, Murray has averaged 7.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 29.7 minutes.
Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura (groin) won't be in the lineup on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Clippers. The team has downgraded Hachimura from questionable to out, marking the second absence of the season for the Japanese forward. The Lakers' frontcourt will also be without the services of Deandre Ayton (elbow), so Jarred Vanderbilt, Jake LaRavia, and Jaxson Hayes should get plenty of burn against the Clippers. After Saturday night, Hachimura will get a couple of days to recover, as the Lakers will be off until Tuesday.
Orlando Magic forward Tristan da Silva (shoulder) has been ruled out for Saturday's clash against the Utah Jazz, while forward Jonathan Isaac (hip) is returning to the lineup. Both players were originally listed as questionable on the injury report. Da Silva will be absent for a second consecutive game and Isaac will help fill some of his minutes. Meanwhile, Jett Howard, who logged 29 minutes on Thursday night against Denver and had 12 points with six rebounds, will probably lose playing time to Isaac. Orlando has utilized Isaac for only 10.6 minutes per game this season, so he generally doesn't make much of a difference in fantasy basketball.
Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs (hip) will miss a second consecutive contest on Saturday against the Utah Jazz, as the team has downgraded his status from doubtful to out. Suggs can't play due to a hip contusion, putting Tyus Jones and Anthony Black in a position to see more minutes on the court. With Suggs out of commission, Jones made his second start of the campaign on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets but failed to impress. Anthony Black has also recently worked in the first unit and had his second-highest scoring game on Thursday with 22 points.
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (groin) has been downgraded from doubtful to out ahead of tip-off on Saturday against the Orlando Magic. He is managing a right groin injury and won't be available for a second consecutive contest. In Markkanen's absence, Kyle Filipowski will likely keep his starting spot, with Brice Sensabaugh and Taylor Hendricks potentially getting more minutes in the rotation. Keyonte George, who has posted three consecutive 30-point performances, will lead the charge offensively.
Phoenix Suns guard/forward Grayson Allen (knee) will miss a second consecutive game on Saturday against the Golden State Warriors. He is carrying a sore right knee, and his absence isn't surprising, as the team initially listed Allen as questionable for the game. Allen's previous absence was also against the Warriors on Thursday night. It allowed Royce O'Neale to re-enter the first unit, and he provided a little bit of everything for fantasy managers, notching nine points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 31 minutes. Jordan Goowin also benefited from Allen's absence, amassing nine points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in 30 minutes.
Memphis Grizzlies guard Cam Spencer will join the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup against the Washington Wizards, replacing Santi Aldama. Spencer struggled in his only previous start this season, finishing with four points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals in a 117-104 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 2. However, he was excellent during his first career start late last season against the Dallas Mavericks, scoring 23 points and delivering seven assists. On Saturday, Spencer looks poised for another productive night, as Memphis faces a poor defensive team in a pace-up situation.
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga (illness) will not suit up on Saturday against the Phoenix Suns. He was a late addition to the injury report due to an illness and has now been ruled out. Kuminga has been in and out of the rotation lately, so Warriors head coach Steve Kerr probably already had plans in place for how the rotation would work without the athletic forward. Kuminga will have his first opportunity to return on Monday against the Orlando Magic.
Washington Wizards forwards Cam Whitmore (shoulder) and Jamir Watkins (illness) have been ruled out for Saturday's contest against the Memphis Grizzlies. The duo was initially listed as questionable for the game. Bilal Coulibaly (ankle) will also exit the lineup against Memphis, opening up playing time for the likes of Justin Champagnie, Tre Johnson, Will Riley, and Malaki Branham (thumb). Of the four players, Johnson has been the best fantasy option, though he has been inconsistent.
Washington Wizards forward Khris Middleton (knee) is available on Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies. The injury-prone veteran has been out for four games due to a right knee contusion. Over 16 appearances, Middleton has averaged 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 25.8 minutes. He has started in all 16 games and is expected to return to the first unit on Saturday. This is a good fantasy matchup for Middleton and the Wizards, as both teams like to run, which could lead to a shootout.
Washington Wizards guard/forward Bilal Coulibaly (ankle) won't be in the lineup for the first leg of a back-to-back on Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies. After returning from an oblique injury this week, Coulibaly has suffered a left ankle sprain. Fortunately for Washington, Khris Middleton (knee) has been cleared to return. The veteran will help to fill some of Coulibaly's minutes, while Justin Champagnie and Will Riley could also get additional run-outs.
