Joe Smith Nov 24 1:30pm ET

The New York Mets, as they search for another late-inning arm to complement relief pitchers A.J. Ramos, Jerry Blevins and closer Jeurys Familia, are keeping tabs on Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Joe Smith. Smith has pitched for New York before and is highly regarded by team brass, especially new manager Mickey Callaway, who was Smith's pitching coach in Cleveland. However, there is some belief the veteran right-hander will want to remain with Cleveland. He was 3-0 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 59 outings between the Blue Jays and Indians in 2017. Smith can be a key factor for any bullpen, but the fact that he doesn't often pitch in high-leverage situations with a chance for saves, limits his fantasy appeal.

Jon Jay Nov 23 12:30am ET

The Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs free-agent outfielder Jon Jay have been in talks, although no deal is imminent, according to a source. Jay hit well in a part-time role with Chicago in 2017, batting .296, but he has very little power (two home runs, 34 RBI), and is more of a fourth outfielder. However, he could be in line for the starting center field job in Seattle if he signs with them. In fantasy circles, Jay is best used for outfield depth in deeper mixed and single-universe leagues. He has very little upside at 33 years old next year.

Todd Frazier Nov 23 12:30am ET

New York Yankees free-agent third baseman Todd Frazier is being pitched to teams in free agency as a third and first baseman. Frazier's primary position is third base, but he's played first base 82 times in his career as a starter. Frazier has nice power for a third baseman, as he hit 27 home runs and drove in 76 in 474 at-bats with the White Sox and Yankees in 2017. However, he has too much swing and miss in his game and has hit .225 or under in each of the last four seasons, so he'll most certainly continue to be a drain on batting average for fantasy owners.

Gerrit Cole Nov 22 11:20pm ET

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Gerrit Cole is a priority of the Twins, as Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Twins have talked to the Pirates about a trade. Berardino adds that the pitching-hungry Twins have also been in touch with the Rays about right-hander Jake Odorizzi and also that they are known to have interest in a number of starters on the free-agent market. Cole finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 4.26 ERA in 203 innings, but the 27-year-old registered a 3.23 ERA in 579 1/3 innings between 2013-2016, and he is under club control through 2019. Pittsburgh would probably want multiple prospects in return.

Justin Wilson Nov 22 11:20pm ET

Chicago Cubs pitcher Justin Wilson is being scouted by the Twins, as sources tell Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the Twins "could make another run" at the lefty reliever. Wilson struggled down the stretch with the Cubs and was held off their roster for the NLCS, so it is possible that Chicago might want to move on from him this winter. Berardino notes that the Twins made a serious run at Wilson before the Tigers traded him to the Yankees in December 2015. The 30-year-old southpaw is entering his final season of arbitration eligibility and expected to command a salary of around $4.3 million.

Kyle Lloyd Nov 22 10:23pm ET

San Diego Padres RHP Kyle Lloyd was designated for assignment Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Jaycob Brugman Nov 22 3:50pm ET

Oakland Athletics outfielder Jaycob Brugman was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Brugman was designated for assignment by Oakland on Monday. The 25-year-old batted just .266 with a .688 OPS in 162 plate appearances this past season at the major league level, but he can play all three outfield spots and his minor league numbers suggest he is capable of better things offensively. Brugman will be in the running for a bench job next spring in Orioles camp.

Justin Wilson Nov 22 8:20am ET

While the Minnesota Twins have been rumored to be focusing on strengthening their starting rotation this offseason, a rumor popped up that they were planning on making a run at former Detroit Tigers closer Justin Wilson. Wilson was sent from Detroit to the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline in 2017 but is unlikely to return to the Windy City after he didn't perform well following the trade. The Twins tried to acquire Wilson from the New York Yankees after the 2015 season but were unable to get a deal done.

Gerrit Cole Nov 22 8:10am ET

It appears the Minnesota Twins could be buyers this offseason after their surprising Wild Card berth in 2017. According to reports, the Twins have had discussions with the Pittsburgh Pirates about Gerrit Cole and the Tampa Bay Rays about Jake Odorizzi. Both would come with two years of control for the team as the Twins look to bolster their starting rotation this offseason. There's no mention of who the team would have to relinquish in a potential trade. Stay tuned as it appears the Twins are going to be busy in the upcoming months.

Jayson Werth Nov 21 5:40pm ET

The Washington Nationals are not expected to re-sign outfielder Jayson Werth for the 2018 season, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Werth will turn 39 next May and has become both injury-prone and a liability on defense. He played just 70 games for the Nationals in 2017 and hit just .226 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 252 at-bats. Werth is declining rapidly and may have to settle for a one-year deal with an American League and serve as a designated hitter.

Aaron Judge Nov 21 4:13pm ET

New York Yankees OF Aaron Judge (shoulder) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder Monday, Nov. 20. The surgery involved a loose-body removal and cartilage cleanup. Judge is expected to recover in time for spring training.

Aaron Judge Nov 21 4:00pm ET

New York Yankees outfielder and Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge (shoulder) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder Monday, and the procedure involved a loose-body removal and cartilage cleanup. Judge is expected to complete his recovery before the start of spring training next year. Arthroscopic procedures are typically minimally invasive, so this surgery shouldn't affect Judge's preparation for the 2018 season at all. He was a revelation for the Yanks in 2017, hitting .284 with 52 home runs and 114 RBI in 542 at-bats, and he also finished second in the American League MVP voting. A high strikeout rate was Judge's main weakness, but fantasy owners will be willing to overlook that in the first round given his impressive walk rate as well.

Giancarlo Stanton Nov 21 11:40am ET

Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has been frequently linked with the San Francisco Giants and Mark Feinsand of MLB.com hears from a source that the Marlins and Giants have had "deeper discussions" on a potential trade. The source believes that the Giants are the favorites to land Stanton, though the Cardinals are also in the mix. Craig Mish of SiriusXM reported Monday that there was talk of packaging Stanton with Dee Gordon for second baseman Joe Panik and prospects Tyler Beede and Chris Shaw, but there is no proof that the Marlins like that deal. Stanton has a no-trade clause and it appears that he is ok with going to San Francisco.

Mike Minor Nov 21 10:10am ET

Free agent pitcher Mike Minor is expected to be among the first free agents to sign, according to . Olney cites Minor's strong position in the market as one of the most-coveted relievers, with "aggressive interest from a high volume of teams." After missing back-to-back seasons due to injury, Minor thrived with a move to the bullpen this season with a 2.55 ERA and 88/22 K/BB ratio over 77 2/3 innings. He also notched six saves for the Royals. The Mets are among the teams who have shown interest thus far.

Trevor Oaks Nov 21 7:53am ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers added RHP Trevor Oaks and RHP Dennis Santana to the 40-man roster on Monday, Nov. 20.

Grant Dayton Nov 21 7:53am ET

The Atlanta Braves claimed LHP Grant Dayton off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, Nov. 20.

Dan Slania Nov 21 7:43am ET

The San Francisco Giants outrighted RHP Dan Slania off the 40-man roster on Monday, Nov. 20.

Orlando Calixte Nov 21 7:43am ET

The San Francisco Giants designated INF Orlando Calixte and OF Micah Johnson for assignment on Monday, Nov. 20.

Tyler Beede Nov 21 7:43am ET

The San Francisco Giants added RHP Tyler Beede, RHP Tyler Herb, LHP D.J. Snelten, and C Aramis Garcia to the 40-man roster on Monday, Nov. 20.
