Chris Carter Jul 20 1:20pm ET

The A's have signed 1B/DH Chris Carter to a minor league contract. Carter was signed in the offseason by the Yankees coming off a 41 home run, 94 RBI season with the Brewers. He struggled mightily with the Bronx Bombers, hitting just .201 with eight home runs and 26 RBI in 184 at-bats before being DFA'd and ultimately released. With the Yankees acquiring Todd Frazier, Carter was expendable in NY. It is unclear exactly what type of role Carter could have in Oakland, as the A's have Yonder Alonso at first base, Ryon Healy at DH and sluggers Matt Olson and Renato Nunez waiting in the wings. Carter will report to Triple-A Nashville and if he can regain his power stroke, the A's could give him a shot as a bench bat. Regardless, his fantasy value is next to nothing as even if he does get recalled, as he will be a part time player in a big park.

Randal Grichuk Jul 20 1:20pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Randal Grichuk hit a home run for Double-A Springfield in his first rehab appearance. It was his only hit, as he ended the game 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. This was Grichuk's first game action since before the All-Star Break, as he's missed time with a lower back strain. Grichuk should be back with the big league club soon, but he may not end up with as much playing time as he had before. With other Cardinals outfielders faring much better at the plate, Grichuk is likely to end up as the team's fourth outfielder going forward.

Josh Smoker Jul 20 11:53am ET

New York Mets LHP Josh Smoker (elbow) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Thursday, July 20. RHP Neil Ramirez was designated for assignment.

New York Mets LHP Josh Smoker (elbow) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Thursday, July 20. RHP Neil Ramirez was designated for assignment.

Taijuan Walker Jul 20 11:50am ET

Arizona starter Taijuan Walker has been scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday and has been placed on the paternity list. Walker should be available to rejoin the rotation this weekend. Corbin will make the spot start on Thursday against the Reds.

Dan Straily Jul 20 11:50am ET

Miami Marlins starter Dan Straily struggled for the second-straight start after suffering his fifth loss of the season on Wednesday. With seven wins and a 1.13 WHIP, Straily has been Miami's best pitcher this season. He was knocked around by the paltry Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, allowing nine hits and four earned runs in only five innings of work. His seven strikeouts were the most he's had in a start since June 16, though it was also his first loss since June 5.

Giancarlo Stanton Jul 20 11:50am ET

Giancarlo Stanton is the first National Leaguer to hit 30 home runs this year after smashing a solo shot on Wednesday against the Phillies. Stanton, who's been the hottest power hitter in the month of July, is finally showing for a full season why he's so good. In July, Stanton is batting .298 with nine home runs, 14 RBI, nine walks and 15 runs scored. He has four dingers over his last three games and will get a shot at another one on Friday when the Fish open a road series against the Reds.

    J.D. Martinez Jul 20 11:33am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks OF J.D. Martinez (hand) is out of the lineup Thursday, July 20.

Taijuan Walker Jul 20 11:23am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks RHP Taijuan Walker was placed on the paternity list Thursday, July 20. LHP Patrick Corbin will make his start Thursday. RHP Matt D. Koch was recalled from Class AAA Reno.

Patrick Corbin Jul 20 11:23am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks RHP Taijuan Walker was placed on the paternity list Thursday, July 20. LHP Patrick Corbin will make his start Thursday. RHP Matt D. Koch was recalled from Class AAA Reno.

    J.D. Martinez Jul 20 10:20am ET

Newest Diamondback J.D. Martinez left Wednesday's game after being hit in the hand by a pitch. It was the outfielder's second at-bat with his new team. X-Rays were negative, and Martinez has been listed as day-to-day. Early indications point to a short absence as Martinez asked to stay in the game. Martinez's owners are praying for a quick return, so the slugger can take advantage of his new team's ball park and lineup

Tim Adleman Jul 20 9:00am ET

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Tim Adleman was impressive against a dangerous Arizona Diamondbacks offense on Wednesday night. Adleman went six innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven. The right-hander took a no-decision in the game, which the Reds won 4-3 in 11 innings. Adleman now has a 5-7 record, 4.96 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 88 strikeouts on the season. He's been serviceable as a streaming option in deeper, NL-only leagues. Up next, he will take on the Cleveland Indians on the road.

Pablo Sandoval Jul 20 8:43am ET

Free-agent 3B Pablo Sandoval (Red Sox) agreed to a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, July 19, and will report to Class AAA Sacramento, according to a source.

Trey Mancini Jul 20 7:40am ET

Baltimore Orioles first base/outfielder Trey Mancini finished 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI against the Rangers on Wednesday. Mancini now has a hit in three consecutive games and eight of his last 10 games, seeing his batting average jump to .306 for the season. He had a home run on Tuesday and his five RBI over the last two games, scoring a run in five of his last seven games. Mancini should be owned in all leagues.

Jose Berrios Jul 20 7:40am ET

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Jose Berrios turned in a strong outing against the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Berrios pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball, striking out five and walking two. The young right-hander bounced back from an ineffective outing against the Houston Astros last Friday in which he was having trouble with his mechanics. His mechanics were fine on Wednesday as he held one of the top offenses in the league to just one run. Berrios now has a 9-3 record, 3.50 ERA, and 75 strikeouts in what has been a breakout year for him. He will face the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road in his next start.

Jonathan Schoop Jul 20 7:40am ET

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Wednesday against the Rangers. Schoop now has a .333 batting average in 60 at-bats this month, getting a hit in seven of his last eight games. He has an RBI in three consecutive games, including a double in back-to-back games, and has three multi-hit games in his last eight games. Schoop is ninth in the American League with 60 RBI and, over his last 28 games, Schoop has hit seven homers and driven in 24 runs to go with a .339 batting average. He should be owned in all leagues.

Kevin Gausman Jul 20 7:40am ET

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman allowed one run on four hits in six innings against the Rangers on Wednesday. Gausman struck out eight batters and walked two, earning just his second quality start in his last 10 starts. He had allowed 13 runs over his last two starts (seven innings), but does have 29 strikeouts and only five walks in July (20 innings). His strikeout potential is interesting, but he still has a 6.15 ERA and 1.75 WHIP this season, allowing a .316 batting average against.

Jacob Faria Jul 20 3:40am ET

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jacob Faria went five innings Wednesday versus Oakland, allowing four runs. He made it through four innings without giving up a run despite not having his best stuff but finally, Oakland got to him in the fifth inning. It is the first start of his major league career where he did not meet the criteria for a quality start. Faria possesses the ability to develop into a workhorse in his career, but it is important to remember that he is fairly new, so there may be some rough spots like today. He possesses strikeout upside and is a good add in deeper seasonal leagues and dynasty formats. His next outing is a dangerous Baltimore offense so perhaps he will not be a great value in daily contests.

Carlos Carrasco Jul 20 3:40am ET

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was solid on Wednesday, picking up a quality start by allowing just two runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out six and threw 63 of his 106 pitches for strikes. Carrasco was denied a win as the Tribe ended up losing to the Giants by allowing three runs in the eighth inning. Still, Carrasco has been solid this year, returning plenty of mixed league value with a 3.62 ERA.
