Adalberto Mondesi Aug 21 7:30pm ET

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (shoulder) is set to play 3-5 innings in the field for Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. Mondesi went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter last night as he rehabs from a shoulder injury that has had him on the injured list since July 16. The plan is to play Mondesi 3-5 innings again tomorrow before evaluating how he feels on Friday. Mondesi was batting .266 with 7 home runs when he went on the IL and his 31 stolen bases lead the league at the time. Assuming he doesn't suffer a setback he should be back with the Royals sometime next week.

Brett Gardner Aug 21 7:30pm ET

New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner (toe), who had an ingrown toenail removed on Sunday night, is likely to return to the starting lineup on Thursday, according to manager Aaron Boone. The 35-year-old veteran is hitting a mediocre .254/.335/.484 with 17 home runs, 67 runs, 50 RBI and nine steals in 370 at-bats this year for the first-place Bombers. While he doesn't stand out in any one category, Gardner's fantasy stock is boosted by the fact that he plays for the potent Yankees, and he can contribute modestly with his power and speed in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Ramon Laureano Aug 21 7:30pm ET

Oakland Athletics outfielder Ramon Laureano (shin) thinks he can play right now and has been hitting, throwing and started running drills on Tuesday. He doesn't think he'll need a rehab assignment before returning, but that won't be his call. The 25-year-old started the season off slow but came on strong and is hitting a nice .284/.334/.518 with 21 home runs, 67 runs, 58 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 380 at-bats. Not only was he carrying his weight offensively, but Laureano is also one of the better defensive center fielders in the game with a very strong arm. Keep him stashed everywhere and get ready for a return in the next week or so.

Casey Mize Aug 21 7:20pm ET

The Detroit Tigers have decided to shut down their top prospect, starting pitcher Casey Mize, with just under two weeks left in the season for Double-A Erie. Mize's shutdown isn't medically-related and is expected to take part in the team's instructional league on Sept. 13. He'll be cleared to have a normal offseason. Mize was on the injured list for four weeks this summer with shoulder inflammation, but it also helped ease his workload in his first professional season. The 22-year-old finishes the year 8-3 with a 2.55 ERA over 21 starts with Single-A Lakeland and Erie. In six starts since he returned from his injury, Mize was 0-3 with a 7.09 ERA while allowing 34 hits over 26 2/3 innings. Mize is the No. 2 prospect in baseball and should be in Detroit's rotation at some point next season. He needs to be owned in dynasty/keeper leagues already.

    Isiah Kiner-Falefa Aug 21 7:03pm ET

Texas Rangers RP Locke St. John was recalled from Class AAA Nashville Wednesday, Aug. 21. The team also optioned C Isiah Kiner-Falefa to Class AA Frisco.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Aug 21 7:00pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays rookie third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday. Instead, Brandon Drury will start at third base and hit fifth against Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler. Drury is hitting a poor .230/.270/.410 with 14 home runs, 37 runs and 39 RBI in 344 at-bats this year. He's strong and has decent power, but he swings and misses too often and is facing one of the best young pitchers in baseball in Buehler. He's not the strongest DFS sleeper on Wednesday.

Yoan Moncada Aug 21 6:40pm ET

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list on Thursday. Moncada will end up missing around a month of action due to a strained right hamstring. Outfielder Ryan Cordell has been optioned to the minors in a corresponding move. Fantasy owners will be happy to get Moncada back in their lineups for Thursday.

    From RotoBaller

Josh James Aug 21 6:40pm ET

Houston Astros relief pitcher Josh James (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. James has been sidelined since July 23 due to arm fatigue. He'll likely need a few appearances in the minors before he's ready to rejoin the bullpen in Houston. He doesn't have much fantasy value, but he's a talented reliever that will help the Astros down the stretch.

    From RotoBaller

Ben Zobrist Aug 21 6:30pm ET

Chicago Cubs infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist is expected to rejoin the team in September, according to president of baseball operations Theo Epstein. Zobrist has not played with the organization since May due to a personal matter. It's unlikely that he starts when he returns to the Cubs, but will be a helpful option off the bench for the team. He won't have much fantasy value unless he starts upon return.

    From RotoBaller

Buster Posey Aug 21 6:20pm ET

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs. The veteran catcher will get a routine day off to rest here. Stephen Vogt will draw the start behind the plate and bat fifth versus righty Yu Darvish. Vogt has been a reliable option as a backup catcher for the Giants, but won't have much fantasy appeal against Darvish.

    From RotoBaller

Adam Duvall Aug 21 6:20pm ET

Atlanta Braves outfielders Adam Duvall and Charlie Culberson will jump into the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins. The Braves outfield is a little banged up at the moment, so they have to piece things together. Both Duvall and Culberson will draw the start in the outfield against the left-handed starter. Duvall will bat fifth and play left, while Culberson bats sixth and plays right field versus lefty Caleb Smith. Both are better hitters against left-handed pitching, but have been in slumps at the plate lately.

David Carpenter Aug 21 6:13pm ET

Texas Rangers RP David Carpenter was outrighted to Class AAA Nashville Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Brandon Morrow Aug 21 6:13pm ET

Chicago Cubs RP Brandon Morrow (elbow) has suffered a setback and will miss the rest of the 2019 season.

Brandon Morrow Aug 21 6:10pm ET

Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein said that relief pitcher Brandon Morrow (elbow) suffered another setback and will miss the rest of the season. The team's former closer hasn't pitched in the majors since before the All-Star break in 2018. He lost any real chance to return to fantasy relevance when the Cubs traded for Craig Kimbrel at the deadline this year, too. The 35-year-old has a long road back and can only hope to return to a setup role in 2020 if he can finally get back on track with his injuries.

    From RotoBaller

Andrelton Simmons Aug 21 6:10pm ET

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons (ankle) took live batting practice on Wednesday and will join the team this weekend in Houston, although that doesn't mean he'll be activated from the injured list. Simmons has been out since Aug. 2 and is hitting .274/.315/.382 with five home runs, 28 RBI and nine steals in just 74 games this year. It'll be nice for the Angels to get him back with a month left in the season, but he's not of much importance to fantasy owners outside of deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Melky Cabrera Aug 21 6:10pm ET

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Melky Cabrera (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Washington Nationals. Cabrera will get a routine day off here to rest. Pablo Reyes will take over right field and bat sixth versus lefty Patrick Corbin. Reyes has been awful with the bat, so he's not a trustworthy option in fantasy leagues or DFS contests.

    From RotoBaller

Rougned Odor Aug 21 6:00pm ET

Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Odor will get a routine day off here against the left-handed starter. Nick Solak will draw the start at second base and bat sixth versus lefty Patrick Sandoval. Solak doesn't have enough plate appearances at this level to trust in fantasy leagues or DFS contests.
