Michael Fulmer Mar 19 1:20pm ET

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher and former Rookie of the Year Michael Fulmer (elbow) has been recommended for Tommy John surgery by Dr. James Andrews, the team announced Tuesday via Twitter. Fulmer will seek a third opinion before making a decision. Fulmer was shut down from game action about a week ago in order to work on mechanical issues, but experienced elbow soreness in a recent bullpen session. It looks likely that he will miss the entire 2019 season.

Franmil Reyes Mar 19 1:00pm ET

San Diego Padres outfielder Franmil Reyes is in pole position as the teams cleanup hitter come Opening Day. Reyes emerged from relative anonymity to be the Padres best hitter in the second half of 2018, highlighted by 10 homers and a .920 OPS. Despite his early struggles, Reyes adapted, lowering his strikeouts to a respectable 22 percent in the second half. That trend has continued, with Reyes striking out just 18 percent so far this spring en route to an .896 OPS. While hell likely split time with outfielders Hunter Renfroe and Franchy Cordero, Reyes should have a favorable slot in a potent offense when he gets the nod. With his immense power profile and newfound plate discipline, Reyes could cruise past 20 long balls in 2019 and makes a compelling case as a DFS or rotational season-long outfield option in fantasy.

Gio Gonzalez Mar 19 12:43pm ET

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees LHP Gio Gonzalez's minor-league contract with the team calls for a base salary of $3 million. On top of that, he can earn $300,000 per major-league start up to a $12 million maximum in 2019.

Mike Trout Mar 19 12:10pm ET

The Los Angeles Angels and superstar outfielder Mike Trout agreed on a record-setting 12-year deal worth more than $430 million on Tuesday, a source told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi. The 27-year-old was eligible to become a free agent after the 2020 season after his six-year, $144.5 million contract expired. The new deal would add 10 years to the existing deal, but there will be no opt-out clause. Trout was the 2012 American League Rookie of the Year and has finished either first or second in the AL MVP voting in all but one of his seven major league seasons. He's won two MVPs and is the consensus overall No. 1 fantasy selection.

Tommy Pham Mar 19 2:20am ET

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Tommy Pham (shoulder) returned to left field on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He hit second and went 0-for-1 with a walk. The shoulder injury doesn't seem to be a big concern going into the season, putting fantasy owners at ease. He's having a great spring, hitting .324/.395/.405 in 37 at-bats. He'll look to roll his hot start into the season and will be a vital piece in the heart of the Rays lineup. With good health his ADP of 61 in NFBC leagues is about right, as he'll contribute in all five categories.

Charlie Morton Mar 19 2:20am ET

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Charlie Morton threw five strong innings in the Rays spring training game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Morton used his full arsenal of pitches in this one and fired four strikeouts and allowed two walks. The 35-year-old will look to replicate his career-best 2018 season in which he posted a 15-3 record, 3.13 ERA and 28.9 percent strikeout rate. Morton has gained some zip on his fastball in each of the past three seasons, sitting at an average of 96.6 mph in 2018. He's a strong selection in all formats and is a safe selection around his 119 ADP in NFBC leagues.

In his three seasons as a utility infielder with Cleveland, Gonzalez had a .263 batting average with five home runs and 16 RBI in 162 combined games.
