Blake Swihart Mar 18 9:00pm ET

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart has appeared in 10 games this spring and has been taking advantage of his chance to win the starting job in Beantown. A slash line of .360/.385/.480 with five RBI over 25 at-bats is far-and-away the best at the position, whereas Christian Vazquez and Sandy Leon are known more for their defensive abilities. At 26 years old, Swihart has yet to hold a full-time starting job but his hot bat is going to make it difficult for the Sox to decide on a primary backstop. If they go with Swihart, he'll likely be batting at the bottom half of a strong lineup, making fantasy-relevant opportunities hard to come by. The indecision here makes him hard to trust, even if you're punting the catcher position come draft day.

Gio Gonzalez Mar 18 8:53pm ET

Free-agent LHP Gio Gonzalez (Brewers) agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the New York Yankees Monday, March 18, according to a source. Gonzalez will make $3 million this season if he makes the active roster.

Estevan Florial Mar 18 8:13pm ET

New York Yankees OF Estevan Florial (wrist) underwent an MRI on his fractured wrist Monday, March 18, and also met with a hand specialist. He is scheduled to wear a hard cast on his wrist for a few weeks and there is no timetable for his return. He was also diagnosed with a second fracture, but it is not considered serious and will heal along with the other fracture.

Forrest Whitley Mar 18 3:20pm ET

Houston Astros starting pitcher Forrest Whitley, baseball's best pitching prospect, looks ready for the major league rotation and has struck out 15 and allowed only nine baserunners and two earned runs in 12 spring innings. The right-hander is only 21 and has just 137 1/3 innings of professional experience, which makes him likely to start the year in the minors. However, his upside makes him worth a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues in 2019. "His fastball is special, his changeup is his best swing-and-miss pitch, his curveball is his best breaking ball and he also has a 90-92 mph cutter and an 86-90 mph slider. He's in a good spot getting ready to make an impact," Astros farm director Pete Putila said.

Ichiro Suzuki Mar 18 3:00pm ET

Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki has been tabbed to start in the season opener in Japan against the A's on Wednesday, and he's expected to play right field. The 45-year-old went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in the exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants on Monday and is now 2-for-31 on the spring. The future Hall of Famer will likely be removed from the active roster after the two-game series in Japan concludes this week. Suzuki will likely hit lower in the order and won't be a very attractive DFS play this week.
