Matt Carpenter May 24 11:10pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter hit his seventh home run of the season on Friday, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. It's been a slow start for Carpenter, who is slashing just .210/.327/.381. Hopefully for his fantasy owners, Friday was the start of a hot streak that gets him back on track.

Miles Mikolas May 24 11:10pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas was solid on Friday, taking a tough loss despite tossing seven innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out nine and did not allow a walk. Mikolas wasn't at his best, but he was able to work around the seven hits, two of which were home runs. He'll start his next game with a 4.76 ERA.

    From RotoBaller

Brad Hand May 24 10:40pm ET

Cleveland Indians closer Brad Hand saved his 13th game of the season on Friday, tossing the ninth inning of a 3-1 game. He allowed a hit, but struck out two, needing 14 pitches to deliver a win for Cleveland. Hand now has a 1.29 ERA and has allowed a .164 batting average to opposing hitters. He's one of the best closers in baseball right now.

    From RotoBaller

Shane Bieber May 24 10:40pm ET

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Shane Bieber didn't go deep into Friday's game, but he made the best of the innings he worked. He ended up pitching five innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out 10. He walked four and threw 111 pitches. All the strikeouts and the four walks bloated his pitch count and didn't give him a chance to earn the quality start, but his fantasy owners won't be too upset by the consolation prize of 10 Ks.

    From RotoBaller

Chris Stratton May 24 9:43pm ET

Pittsburgh Pirates RHP Chris Stratton (arm) was removed from his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, May 24, with an apparent arm injury.

Pedro Strop May 24 8:33pm ET

Chicago Cubs RP Pedro Strop (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, May 25.

Scooter Gennett May 24 8:23pm ET

Cincinnati Reds 2B Scooter Gennett (groin) began swinging a bat and participating in fielding drills this week. There is no timetable for his return.

Anthony DeSclafani May 24 8:20pm ET

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Anthony DeSclafani struggled in a 6-5 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. DeSclafani lasted just 3 2/3 innings while giving up four runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out just two batters in the outing but his offense got him off the hook, resulting in a no-decision. DeSclafani now has a 2-2 record, 4.99 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 52 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings of work. He was starting to show some promise in late April and early May, but the young right-hander has now allowed exactly four runs in each of his past four starts. He is shaping up more like a streaming option in plus matchups as opposed to an every-week, locked-in starter. He will face the Pittsburgh Pirates in his next start.

    From RotoBaller

Shohei Ohtani May 24 8:20pm ET

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (finger) is back as the designated hitter on Friday and is batting third against Rangers left-handed starting pitcher Drew Smyly. Outfielder Kole Calhoun will take a seat against the lefty, with Brian Goodwin in right field and batting ninth. Ohtani was hit by a pitch in the finger earlier this week and was given a rest day on Thursday. He's hit .276 against lefties the last two years, but only two of his 26 homers have come against them. Goodwin has swung the bat well in 2019 but not against lefties, hitting .192 with no homers in 26 at-bats. Fade him in daily lineups Friday night.

    From RotoBaller

Yasiel Puig May 24 8:20pm ET

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in a 6-5 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Puig had an RBI single and a two-run homer in the win. The veteran outfielder is hitting .213 with eight homers, 18 runs, 28 RBI, and seven steals on the year. He has hit just .192 over his past seven games after showing some signs of life at the beginning of the month. Puig has a ton of potential in his bat if he is able to get locked in at the plate.

    From RotoBaller

Nathan Eovaldi May 24 8:10pm ET

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) will throw another bullpen session on Saturday. Eovaldi threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday and is starting to ramp back up for a potential return in the middle of next month. The hard-throwing right-hander wasn't nearly effective in his first four starts to begin the year as he was last postseason. Eovaldi had a 6.00 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 21 innings for Boston in the month of April. He still has upside in most leagues, mainly in the strikeout department, so consider stashing him soon if you need the rotation help this summer.

    From RotoBaller

Brock Holt May 24 8:10pm ET

Boston Red Sox infielder Brock Holt (shoulder) will play shortstop for Double-A Portland on Friday and could rejoin the team in Houston this weekend. Holt had just one hit in his 16 at-bats for the BoSox before his injury and he hasn't played since April 5. With Michael Chavis running away with the second base duties and Eduardo Nunez also in the fold off the bench, Holt isn't going to see much playing time in Boston when he does return. You can keep ignoring him in most leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Justin Upton May 24 8:10pm ET

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton (toe) can now run on 100 percent of his weight and has been cleared for batting practice on the field and some outfield drills. Upton has been out all year due to turf toe, but he has cleared a big hurdle and is on track to make his season debut in the middle of June. The 31-year-old probably won't hit for a very high average anymore, but he still has 30-homer power in a full season and can make an impact in all fantasy leagues when he returns. If he was dropped by his previous owner, pick him up if he's available.

    From RotoBaller

Andrew Heaney May 24 8:00pm ET

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney (elbow) will come off the injured list and make his season debut on Sunday against the Rangers, according to manager Brad Ausmus. When he's right, the 27-year-old left-hander can be the ace of the staff after he posted a 4.15 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 9.0 K/9 in 180 innings (30 starts) for the Halos in 2018. There's always the risk of an injury, but Heaney needs to be owned in all leagues. Starting him in his first game back against Texas is a little more risky, as he might not go long enough to qualify for a quality start. Heaney fanned 10 in 4 1/3 innings in a rehab start at Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

    From RotoBaller

Taylor Cole May 24 7:53pm ET

Los Angeles Angels RP Jaime Barria was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake Friday, May 24. The team also optioned RP Taylor Cole to Class AAA Salt Lake.

Jaime Barria May 24 7:53pm ET

Los Angeles Angels RP Jaime Barria was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake Friday, May 24. The team also optioned RP Taylor Cole to Class AAA Salt Lake.

Joey Votto May 24 7:50pm ET

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs in a 6-5 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Votto also walked once in the win. The veteran first baseman is off to a sluggish start this season, hitting just .215 with a .668 OPS, four homers, eight doubles, 24 runs, and eight RBI. His power has all but evaporated while his 24.6% strikeout rate is the highest of his career. Votto is no longer an everyday fantasy first baseman and isn't even a must-hold in deeper mixed leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Khris Davis May 24 7:40pm ET

Oakland Athletics outfielder Khris Davis (hip, oblique) will be shut down from swinging for five days. Davis was placed on the injured list on Friday, but it seems likely that he'll need more than 10 days to recover from an injury that has been bothering him since May 5. He is hitting .248 (39-for-157) with 12 homers, 23 runs and 29 RBI on the year and should be held in all leagues for his elite power. In his absence, both Chad Pinder and Mark Canha should see more playing time and are worth considering in deep mixed leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Dan Straily May 24 7:30pm ET

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Dan Straily has been removed from the starting rotation and will be available in relief starting on Saturday. Manager Brandon Hyde is hoping that Straily can perform better in short spurts, and there's a chance he can work his way back into the rotation. The 30-year-old has been the least effective starter in the majors this year, going 1-4 with a 9.09 ERA, 1.99 WHIP, 18 strikeouts, 17 walks and 14 home runs allowed in 34 2/3 innings over nine outings (eight starts). If you were holding him in a deep AL-only league, you can let go of him now.

    From RotoBaller

Chris Davis May 24 7:20pm ET

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The O's are in an NL park, so they won't have a designated hitter in this contest. Trey Mancini will bat third and play first base versus righty Jeff Hoffman. Mancini is a fantastic DFS option for Friday against Hoffman who had an ERA of 7 plus in the minors. Mancini is in the heart of the order and is crushing the ball this season.
