Zach Plesac Aug 17 8:50pm ET

Cleveland Indians rookie starting pitcher Zach Plesac wasn't sharp on Saturday. He tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk. He struck out five but allowed three home runs. He was somewhat lucky to only allow the four earned runs given the three bombs he allowed, but this was likely just a blip for Plesac in what has been a solid start to his big league career. He'll take a 6-4 record and a 3.53 ERA into his next start.

Carlos Santana Aug 17 8:40pm ET

Cleveland Indians first baseman Carlos Santana got three hits and drove in three runs on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with three singles. He brought his line up to .293/.414/.551. He's been the most consistent member of the Cleveland offense and one of the more consistent players in the American League. He should continue to do more of the same for the rest of the season.

Jared Hughes Aug 17 7:53pm ET

Philadelphia Phillies OF Roman Quinn (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Aug. 17, because of a right groin strain. The team also added RP Jared Hughes to their 25-man roster.

Trent Thornton Aug 17 7:10pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays starter Trent Thornton allowed five hits and three earned runs, while walking four and striking out three, over six innings in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners. Thornton served up a solo home run to Austin Nola in the fourth inning but limited the damage to two sacrifice flies the rest of the way. The 25-year-old will carry a 4-8 record and 5.30 ERA into his next start and is worth streaming in deep mixed leagues when matching up against favorable opponents out of contention.

Chris Sale Aug 17 7:03pm ET

Boston Red Sox LHP Chris Sale (elbow) underwent an MRI on his injured elbow Saturday, Aug. 17, and will receive a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Aug 17 6:53pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays INF Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (knee) is scheduled undergo an MRI on his injured knee.

Max Scherzer Aug 17 6:30pm ET

Washington Nationals starter Max Scherzer tossed a 64-pitch simulated game on Saturday, potentially lining him up for a return to the rotation Thursday in Pittsburgh. The 35-year-old veteran has made just one start since July 6 dealing with a back injury for the month of August, likely snapping a six-year stretch of 200 innings pitched or more. Scherzer has still found terrific results holding a 2.41 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 189 strikeouts in 134.1 IP, and will undoubtedly give fantasy squads a boost down the stretch run. As long as he feels fine Sunday, he'll suit up in an above-average matchup in a road contest against the Pirates.

Ketel Marte Aug 17 6:23pm ET

Arizona Diamondbacks INF Ketel Marte (back) was scratched from the starting lineup Saturday, Aug. 17, because of lower back tightness. He is expected to be in the lineup Sunday, Aug. 18.

Chris Sale Aug 17 6:20pm ET

Boston Red Sox starter Chris Sale hit the injured list Saturday with elbow inflammation while Ryan Brasier gets the call-up to take his roster spot. The southpaw is visiting Dr. James Andrews, which is never a good sign, and there's a real possibility his season is in jeopardy. We'll likely know more later in the week on his status, but with the Sox falling out of contention it wouldn't be surprising to see the club err on the side of caution with their ace. Sale has had a disappointing 2019 sporting a 6-11 record with a 4.40 ERA, but has kept his fantasy value afloat with a remarkable 218 strikeouts in 147.1 IP. Owners in redraft leagues can afford to cut ties if the news turns out to be a worst-case scenario.

David Dahl Aug 17 6:00pm ET

Colorado Rockies outfielder David Dahl is out of his walking boot and doing exercises as he recovers from a high-ankle sprain that has kept him sidelined since August 3. Manager Bud Black said he's "progressing" and "feeling much better.' The club will further assess a possible timeline for a return to the lineup early this week in their next series versus the Diamondbacks. Dahl was hitting a shiny .302 with 15 homers, 67 runs, and 61 RBI before going down and should return contributing sterling numbers when he returns to the lineup likely in early to mid-September.

Dansby Swanson Aug 17 6:00pm ET

Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson and outfielder Austin Riley are both hoping to rejoin the big league club before the calendar flips to September as they recover from their respective injuries. Swanson increased his on-field activities by taking grounders at short while Riley was able to run without discomfort. A foot injury has sidelined Swanson since the end of July, which has put a damper on his offensive breakout campaign where he's clubbed 17 homers with 64 runs in 100 games. Riley hit the IL on August 8 with a partially torn LCL after a second-half that seen him hit a miserable .184. Both players will likely need a rehab assignment before joining the Braves playoff run in September, but it's positive news to hear them both recovering.

Joey Votto Aug 17 5:40pm ET

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez and first baseman Joey Votto are both out of the lineup Saturday versus Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas. Josh VanMeter is at first base batting second while Jose Peraza shifts to the hot corner batting eighth. Suarez hurt his thumb on a tag play Friday night, and he'll likely be out of the lineup through the weekend. Votto is now sitting for the third-straight game with lower back tightness, an ailment that has bugged him on and off all season. Consider both players day-to-day with the hope of them returning when the Padres come to town for a three-game series beginning Monday.
