Los Angeles Angels OF Mike Trout (foot) will undergo surgery on Friday, Sept. 20, to treat Morton's neuroma in his right foot. He was previously ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed (finger) missed his second consecutive game Wednesday, Sept. 18, due an injured finger.
Miami Marlins C Jorge Alfaro (hand) was back in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 18, after being removed from the team's previous game.
Kansas City Royals RHP Jake Junis has been shut down for the rest of the 2019 season, according to manager Ned Yost. The move was made based on the number of innings he's pitched this season and not an injury.
Washington Nationals 1B Matt Adams (shoulder) took swings in the batting cage Wednesday, Sept. 18; it was his first time swinging a bat since suffering the shoulder injury Sept. 12.
Texas Rangers OF Joey Gallo (wrist) has flown back to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for re-evaluation, the team said Wednesday, Sept. 18. Gallo's status for the remainder of the season is expected to be updated Friday, Sept. 20.
Baltimore Orioles RHP Hunter Harvey has been shut down for the remainder of the 2019 season. He had deal with biceps soreness previously, but manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday, Sept. 18 that the move to shut him down is precautionary and no tests were needed.
Toronto Blue Jays 3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (rib) left the game Wednesday, Sept. 18 against the Baltimore Orioles due to a rib injury.
San Diego Padres RP Andres Munoz has been shut down for the 2019 season after throwing almost twice as many innings as he did in 2018. He will head into spring training as the frontrunner to protect slim leads in the eighth inning of close games in 2020.
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Hector Neris pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 28th save of the season Wednesday night against the Braves. Neris was called on to protect a three-run lead and did so with little drama striking out the first two batters he faced before getting Dansby Swanson to line out to end the game. The scoreless outing lowers his ERA to 2.98 to go with a 1.06 WHIP. Neris contributes in strikeouts as well with 87 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings thanks to an elite 32 percent strikeout rate. He is the clear-cut closer in Philadelphia and should be owned in all leagues where saves matter.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper stuffed the stat sheet Wednesday night going 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his 32nd of the season. Harper also walked in the game and stole his 14th base to cap a big night for fantasy owners. Harper has struggled lately with just a .233 batting average and a .737 OPS so far in September but is still making 51.7 percent hard contact this month so the hits should start falling soon. Harper is a must-start fantasy option despite a rough matchup Thursday against Mike Soroka before another tough game Friday against Indians starter Shane Bieber.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Kolby Allard gave up two runs on four hits in five innings against the Astros Wednesday. Allard was wild in this one issuing a season-high four walks while only striking out two on the evening. Allard has shown some promise in his rookie year pitching to a 3.16 FIP which is much better than his actual ERA of 4.25 making him an interesting prospect going into next season. As for this season, Allard will make what could be his final start next Tuesday in a tough matchup at home against the Red Sox and is not a recommended fantasy option for owners vying for a championship.
Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox LHP David Price (wrist) is officially shut down and he will see team doctors in the upcoming days. While manager Alex Cora said Wednesday, Sept. 18 he feels the issue with Price is 'something minor,' the pitcher still might need offseason surgery.
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zach Eflin allowed one unearned run in seven innings against the Braves Wednesday night. Eflin scattered five hits and two walks while striking out four in his latest strong performance. Eflin isn't a big strikeout pitcher with only an 18.8 percent strikeout rate but does a good job limiting walks and hard contact. His 6.4 percent walk rate is strong and is only giving up 37.1 percent hard contact. He'll carry an even 4.00 ERA into a tough matchup with the Nationals on Monday. It's a risky move to start Eflin against a good Washington lineup, but Eflin could be one of the few pitchers to make two starts next week with the Phillies fighting for their playoff lives.
Boston Red Sox LHP Chris Sale (elbow) is hopeful to start a throwing program early in the offseason, according to manager Alex Cora on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels INF Luis Rengifo (hand) has a broken hamate bone in his left hand and he is done for the 2019 season. He was placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Sept. 18 after X-rays revealed the issue.
Tampa Bay Rays INF Eric Sogard (foot) remains limited by the sore right foot he fouled a ball off on Sept. 6, manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday, Sept. 18. Cash is hopeful Sogard will be back by the weekend.
Arizona Diamondbacks 2B/OF Ketel Marte (back) is dealing with inflammation in his lower back and he had an MRI on Wednesday, Sept. 18. He will also have a precautionary CT scan.
Oakland Athletics RP Blake Treinen (back) will miss the remainder of the 2019 regular season due to a back issue.
Cincinnati Reds C Kyle Farmer (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Sept. 18.
