Jesus Luzardo Mar 21 6:00am ET

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo (shoulder) was a candidate to open the season in the starting rotation, but he will be shut down for the next four-to-six weeks with a rotator cuff strain. If all goes well, he will resume throwing in May. Luzardo is the Athletics' top prospect and was cruising through the spring. He had allowed just one run in 9 2/3 innings of work while striking out 15. The 21-year-old had a fantastic 2018 across three different levels of minor-league ball, posting a 10-5 record to go along with a 2.88 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. Luzardo possesses a nasty arsenal of pitches and remains a valuable fantasy asset in keeper/dynasty formats. Considering how thin the Athletics' rotation currently is, Luzardo will still likely make a fantasy impact in 2019. He is a name to remember in redraft formats as a possible stash once he starts his rehab process.

Chris Rabago Mar 21 3:03am ET

The Colorado Rockies reassigned C Chris Rabago and RP Chi Chi Rodriguez to their minor-league camp on Wednesday, March 20.

Corey Seager Mar 21 2:53am ET

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager (elbow, hip) will get five at-bats in a minor-league game Thursday, March 21, but he will not play defense. Then the plan is for Seager to play seven innings in a Cactus League spring game on Friday, March 22.

JT Chargois Mar 21 2:53am ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned RP J.T. Chargois to their minor-league camp on Wednesday, March 20.

Eric Stamets Mar 21 2:53am ET

Cleveland Indians SS Eric Stamets (hip) left the Cactus League spring game Wednesday, March 20 due to left hip tightness. Stamets is the backup option at shortstop if SS Francisco Lindor (calf) is not ready to start the regular season.

Jason Kipnis Mar 21 2:43am ET

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis (calf) left the Cactus League spring game Wednesday, March 20 against the San Francisco Giants. He was lifted for precautionary reasons after experiencing tightness in his right calf.

Taijuan Walker Mar 21 1:33am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Taijuan Walker (elbow) threw off a mound Wednesday, March 20 for the first time since his Tommy John surgery in mid-April of last season. He threw 20 pitches in the bullpen. 'Really happy for him. Obviously it's been a real long, grinding process,' manager Torey Lovullo said. 'I think it was a good day for Taijuan.'

Greg Holland Mar 21 1:23am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks RPs Archie Bradley, Yoshihisa Hirano and Greg Holland are battling for the closer duties, and manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday, March 20 that he intends to make a decision on ninth-inning duties soon. 'I'd probably like to make a decision here in the next several days,' Lovullo said.

Archie Bradley Mar 21 1:23am ET

'I'd probably like to make a decision here in the next several days,' Lovullo said.

Ian Happ Mar 21 12:50am ET

Chicago Cubs infielder/outfielder Ian Happ has impressed manager Joe Maddon with more chances at second base in spring training. Happ will still get more at-bats over the course of the season in the outfield, but he has reminded the team that he's a reasonable option at the keystone. After hitting 24 homers in his rookie year in 2017 in 115 games, Happ disappointed by batting .233/.353/.408 with just 15 long balls and 44 RBI in 142 games for Chicago last season. The switch-hitter's versatility will keep him relevant as a late-round pick in mixed leagues, and he's still only 24 years old.

    Tyler O'Neill Mar 21 12:50am ET

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill may have leapfrogged Jose Martinez on the outfield depth chart with his high-energy style of play this spring. O'Neill can also play all three outfield spots, so he figures to have a key role in 2019. The 23-year-old is hitting .309 (9-for-47) with five home runs and seven RBI in 17 spring contests. He played in just 61 games in his first taste of big league pitching in 2018, slashing .254/.303/.500 with nine homers and 23 RBI. O'Neill is a fine gamble in deep mixed leagues and should be owned in all NL-only affairs.

Dominic Smith Mar 21 12:00am ET

New York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith is showing why he was once considered a top prospect for the Mets in the minor leagues this spring. Both he and current Mets top prospect Peter Alonso could both wind up making the Opening Day roster. Smith is hitting .349 (15-for-43) with a homer and nine RBI in 48 spring plate appearances, but Alonso is also tearing the cover off the baseball and has more raw power. Smith is still just 23 years old so he's worth holding in dynasty/keeper formats, but his uncertain future with the big league club makes him one to avoid in mixed leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Francisco Lindor Mar 20 11:50pm ET

Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor's (calf) status for Opening Day on March 28 remains uncertain. However, he batted every inning in a modified minor league game on Wednesday and went 0-for-6 with two walks in eight plate appearances. Lindor doesn't think he needs to play in a Cactus League game to be ready for the season opener, but the Indians might disagree. The 25-year-old ran the bases at full effort Wednesday morning. While it's still likely that Lindor won't be ready next week, if he keeps progressing he won't miss much regular season time. The switch-hitter batted .277/.352/.519 with 38 home runs, 92 RBI and 25 stolen bases last year and should still come off the board in the first couple rounds of drafts.

    From RotoBaller

Will Smith Mar 20 11:40pm ET

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Will Smith remains the leading candidate for the majority of save chances in 2019 after holding the closer role for the second half of last season and not allowing a run in three Cactus League innings this spring. Veteran Mark Melancon has shown improved health in camp, but he's also posted an 11.12 ERA in six spring appearances, which hasn't helped his cause. The lefty Smith had a 2.55 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 14 saves and 71 K's in 53 innings in 2018. While Melancon poses a threat, Smith is the obvious choice late in mixed league drafts to open the season.

    From RotoBaller

Archie Bradley Mar 20 11:30pm ET

The Arizona Diamondbacks are taking their closer decision down to the wire this year, with relief pitchers Archie Bradley and Greg Holland the candidates. Holland's velocity has been down in spring training, but the team thinks he's fine and he'll pick it up in the regular season. Bradley missed an outing with neck stiffness but has regained his curveball that he wasn't able to throw in 2018 due to a fingernail issue. Holland has more experience but is also a much more volatile fantasy option. He had a league-leading 41 saves in 2017 for the Rockies but had a 4.66 ERA and only three saves with two teams last season. Bradley is much more polished at this point as a late-inning reliever, but the D-backs might prefer to use him in high-leverage situations before the ninth frame.

    From RotoBaller

Joey Gallo Mar 20 11:30pm ET

Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo is still sidelined with a strained right groin muscle, but he's doing full baseball activities, including batting practice, and remains confident he'll be ready for Opening Day. Gallo has only 29 spring at-bats, but he will be able to get extra work on the minor league side on the back fields. The slugger is hoping to play in Sunday's exhibition game at Nashville and the final two spring games against the Indians on Monday and Tuesday back in Texas. Manager Chris Woodward isn't concerned that Gallo hasn't homered this spring, and the left-handed hitter is focusing on using the entire field, controlling the strike zone and cutting down on chasing pitches. The 25-year-old hit just .206 last year in 500 at-bats, but he also posted 40 long balls and an .810 OPS and .498 slugging percentage. That kind of power is hard to come by, making him attractive in all leagues. You'll just have to live with the poor batting average.
