Jason Martin Oct 19 11:33am ET

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Jason Martin (shoulder) has undergone surgery to repair a left shoulder labral tear sustained in early September. He will rehab at home this offseason and players typically need four to six months to fully recover.

    D.J. Stewart Oct 19 11:03am ET

Baltimore Orioles OF D.J. Stewart (ankle) underwent a successful microfracture procedure on his right ankle Thursday, Oct. 17. He is expected to resume baseball activities near the end of spring training.

Freddie Freeman Oct 19 12:53am ET

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (elbow) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Wednesday, Oct. 16, the team announced. Freeman is expected to be healthy in time for spring training.

Giancarlo Stanton Oct 19 12:53am ET

New York Yankees OF Giancarlo Stanton (quad) was in the starting lineup Friday, Oct. 18, against the Houston Astros. Stanton had missed the previous three games in the series due to a quad injury.

Aaron Hicks Oct 19 12:50am ET

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks hit a three-run home run in the first inning of the team's 4-1 win over the Astros in Game 5 of the ALCS. With the Yankees facing elimination, the offense came out swinging. A leadoff home run by DJ LeMahieu was backed up by a three-run laser from Hicks that hit the foul pole for an early 4-0 lead. Hicks is seeing the ball well at the plate right now and is 2-for-6 with one home run, two walks and three runs batted in over his last two playoff games. The smart money is Hicks cracks the starting lineup for Game 6 in Houston.

Justin Verlander Oct 19 12:50am ET

Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander allowed four runs in seven innings pitched as the Yankees held off elimination with a 4-1 victory in Game 5 of the ALCS. The first inning was killer for Verlander, allowing a leadoff home run to DJ LeMahieu and a three-run blast that hit the foul pole to Aaron Hicks. From there, Verlander would retire 20 of his final 21 batters faced, striking out nine. The pennant was there for the taking for the Astros but Verlander's bumpy start sends the series back to Houston for Game 6.

DJ LeMahieu Oct 19 12:50am ET

New York Yankees first baseman DJ LeMahieu hit a leadoff home run to spark the Yankees to a 4-1 victory over the Astros in Game 5 of the ALCS. LeMahieu has been delivering from the top of the lineup the entire series but came up huge with an opposite field home run that barely cleared the fence. The veteran is having a career season and now is hitting .381 in the ALCS as the series heads back to Houston.

James Paxton Oct 19 12:50am ET

New York Yankees starter James Paxton twirled six innings of one-run baseball as the Yankees closed the gap in the ALCS with a 4-1 win over the Astros. After making it only 2 1/3 innings earlier in the series, Paxton had his best stuff in this crucial Game 5. 'Big Maple' scattered four hits and racked up nine strikeouts in a game that he threw 1112 pitches. Paxton may be done for the series but the Yankees are alive, for now, as the series moves to Houston for Game 6.

Juan Graterol Oct 19 12:33am ET

Cincinnati Reds C Juan Graterol cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville Friday, Oct. 18.

Gorkys Hernandez Oct 19 12:33am ET

Boston Red Sox OF Gorkys Hernandez and RP Josh A. Smith were outrighted off the team's 40-man roster on Friday, Oct. 18.

Deolis Guerra Oct 19 12:33am ET

The Milwaukee Brewers re-signed RP Deolis Guerra to a one-year contract Friday, Oct. 18, and placed him on the 40-man roster.

Luis Severino Oct 19 12:23am ET

New York Yankees RHP Luis Severino will start Game 7 against the Houston Astros on Sunday, Oct. 20, if the series goes that far, according to manager Aaron Boone. The team did not announce a Game 6 started but is expected to go with a bullpen game.

Gerrit Cole Oct 19 12:13am ET

Houston Astros RHP Gerrit Cole will not be the team's starter in Game 6 of the ALCS against the New York Yankees on Saturday, Oct. 19. Manager A.J. Hinch did not name a starter but did indicate Game 6 would be a bullpen game. Cole is expected to start Game 7 if necessary.

Jose Hernandez Oct 18 11:00pm ET

Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch hasn't announced a starter for Game 6 of the American League Championship Series in what will likely be a bullpen game, but rookie pitcher Jose Urquidyis expected to start the game against the Yankees. The Mexican right-hander went 2-1 on the year with a 3.95 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 40 strikeouts in 41 innings over seven starts and two relief appearances. He walked one and struck out three in 1 2/3 scoreless frames in Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the Rays. Because he might not last long in this game, Urquidy isn't the best DFS one-game play for Saturday night.

    D.J. Stewart Oct 18 6:00pm ET

Baltimore Orioles outfielder D.J. Stewart (ankle) underwent successful microfracture surgery on his right ankle on Thursday. Stewart is expected to return to baseball activities near the end of spring training. Microfracture procedures aren't your typical surgery, so Stewart should be expected to miss the start of the 2020 regular season, and he could be slowed upon his return. The 25-year-old played in just 44 games for the O's this year, hitting .238/.317/.381 with four home runs and 15 RBI. There is opportunity for him in Baltimore's outfield moving forward, but he'll have to prove his health and win a job before fantasy owners take notice.

Elvis Andrus Oct 18 5:50pm ET

Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus won't opt out of the $43 million and three years left on his current deal. The 31-year-old is making the right decision after hitting .275/.313/.393 with 12 home runs, 72 RBI and 31 stolen bases in 147 games for Texas in 2019. It was Andrus' first time going over 30 steals since 2011, but his power numbers were again down after slugging a career-high 20 round-trippers in 2017. Injuries will also become an issue as the shortstop ages on the wrong side of 30. Don't expect Andrus to return to the 20-homer mark again, so a decent batting average and some speed is what you can bank on with him moving forward.

Jake Marisnick Oct 18 4:30pm ET

Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick is starting in center field and is batting ninth against Yankees left-hander James Paxton in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series on Friday. With the southpaw on the mound, Josh Reddick will take a seat for this one. Marisnick is mainly used late in games for his defensive prowess. He hit just .225 (23-for-102) with four home runs and 14 RBI against left-handers this year, so DFS gamers will likely want to shy away from the light-hitting Marisnick. He slashed .233/.289/.411 with 10 homers, 34 RBI and 10 steals in 292 at-bats this year.

James Paxton Oct 18 3:50pm ET

New York Yankees starter James Paxton will take the mound in Game 5 in hopes of keeping the Yankees alive for one more game in the ALCS. Paxton lasted only 2 1/3 innings on October 13 against the Astros, getting pulled after allowing one run, walking two and surrendering four hits. Much has been made about the big left-hander possibly tipping pitches in his last start and will need to pitch deeper into the game. Paxton posted a 3.35 ERA at home in the regular season but will have a tough task taking down an Astros offense that has torched left-handed pitching this season.

Aaron Judge Oct 18 3:50pm ET

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge will hit second in a struggling lineup as the Yankees will try and stave off elimination against the Astros in Game 5. Judge homered in Game 2 but has failed to make a consistent impact, slugging only .412 in the series. Judge disappointed, at times, against right-handed pitching in the regular season, slashing only .247/.349/.498 in contrast to posting a 1.124 OPS against opposing lefties. The Astros will send their ace, Justin Verlander, to the mound in Game 5. Judge will need to step up in order to extend the series.

    From RotoBaller

Gleyber Torres Oct 18 3:40pm ET

New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres will start and hit third in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Astros. Torres has been the only consistent offensive threat for the Yankees over the last week and continues to get elevated in the lineup. The 22-year-old has been fantastic throughout the entire postseason, slashing .345/.406/.793 with three home runs, four doubles and 10 runs batted in through 29 postseason at-bats. Torres is slugging .706 in the ALCS and the Yankees need him now more than ever in this elimination game.
