Dakota Hudson Jul 23 9:40pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Dakota Hudson allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Pirates Tuesday night. He allowed six hits and three walks while striking out five to earn a quality start. Hudson got off to a rough start, Starling Marte hit a three-run homer in the first inning, but was able to settle in from there and didn't allow another run while pitching into the seventh. Husdon is not a spectacular fantasy option due to a very low 16.5 percent strikeout rate but has been great at run prevention. Hudson hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in a start since April 15, a streak of 17 starts. He'll put that streak on the line vs a tough Astros lineup in his next start on Sunday.

Brandon Lowe Jul 23 9:10pm ET

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (shin) got a pain-killing injection in his bruised shin Tuesday and will not do any baseball activities for 2-3 days. Manager Kevin Cash isn't calling it a setback, but this is obviously not good news for Lowe or his fantasy owners. Lowe was having a nice season at the plate with a .276 average and a .862 OPS, but currently has no timetable for his return to the active roster.

Rocky Gale Jul 23 8:53pm ET

Los Angeles Dodgers C Rocky Gale was outrighted to Class AAA Oklahoma City Tuesday, July 23, to open up a spot on the 40-man roster ahead of the 2019 trade deadline.

Johnny Cueto Jul 23 8:50pm ET

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (elbow) will face live hitters Wednesday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August. Cueto was a solid fantasy contributor a few years ago, he pitched at least 212 innings every year from 2014-2016, but fell on hard times the past two seasons before needing surgery. If Cueto looks good during rehab games he could see Big League action in September but he is not someone fantasy owners need to stash weeks in advance of that possibility.

Taylor Ward Jul 23 8:33pm ET

Los Angeles Angels INF Taylor Ward was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake Tuesday, July 23. In a corresponding move, LHP Dillon Peters was optioned to Salt Lake.

Dillon Peters Jul 23 8:33pm ET

Los Angeles Angels INF Taylor Ward was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake Tuesday, July 23. In a corresponding move, LHP Dillon Peters was optioned to Salt Lake.

Ryan Pressly Jul 23 8:30pm ET

Houston Astros relief pitcher Ryan Pressley (knee) hasn't pitched this homestand due to a sore knee according to manager A.J. Hinch. Pressly was hit in the right knee by a comebacker Thursday and hasn't pitched since. The team has indicated the injury is not a long term thing and could be available out of the bullpen Tuesday. Pressly has been dominant in middle relief this season sporting a 1.45 ERA supported by a 2.21 xFIP. He's been a useful fantasy option for his elite ratios and a 33.5 percent strikeout rate. He has 22 holds on the season so he is must-own in any league where holds matter but also has value in roto leagues for his ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts.

Zach Eflin Jul 23 8:00pm ET

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zach Eflin will take his next turn in the rotation this weekend vs the Braves. Manager Gabe Kapler said Eflin is fine medically after being examined by the training staff after his last start. Eflin was quoted saying his body "felt heavy," but was given a clean bill of health by team doctors. Eflin has been pitching poor of late holding a 9.38 ERA with a 6.39 FIP in his last five starts. Eflin is droppable in most leagues as he could be demoted to Triple-A or the bullpen if the Phillies acquire a starter at the deadline. He is not a recommended start this weekend against a stacked Braves lineup.

Adalberto Mondesi Jul 23 7:40pm ET

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (shoulder) won't be re-evaluated until after the team's current road trip and is not performing baseball activities. Mondesi has been with the team on the road, but will reportedly remain shut down for now. Fantasy owners will need to wait until the Royals get back home to get a more exact timetable but today's report indicates Mondesi will be on the injured list into August. Mondesi was enjoying a very good season before injuring his shoulder trying to make a diving catch Tuesday. He is batting .266 with a .433 slugging percentage and his 31 stolen bases still lead the league despite the IL stint.

Byron Buxton Jul 23 7:30pm ET

Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (concussion) is expected to return to the lineup in the coming days as he recovers from a concussion. Buxton had his wisdom teeth removed last Friday which helps explain the delayed return to the lineup despite being eligible to come off the injured list. Buxton is reportedly symptom-free from the concussion and has been playing catch and doing other baseball activities. Buxton is slashing .249/.308/.490 but brings extra value to fantasy owners thanks to 13 stolen bases.

David Peralta Jul 23 7:10pm ET

AP writer Jack Magruder reports that Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta will play in his second rehab game in the Arizona League on Tuesday night, and that he could be nearing a return from the Injured List soon. Despite an injury-marred season, Peralta has been able to contribute in fantasy when healthy, as he is hitting .289 with nine home runs and 44 RBI over 73 games. Magruder mentions that there could be some trade interest for Peralta if the Diamondbacks decide to sell at the deadline, which could impact Peralta's value for the remainder of the season.

    From RotoBaller

Willson Contreras Jul 23 7:10pm ET

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras (foot) could be activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. It sounds like Contreras was fine after catching bullpen sessions on Monday. He's been out of action for a little over a week due to a strain in his right foot. The Cubs desperately need their All-Star catcher back in the lineup.

    From RotoBaller

Tim Collins Jul 23 7:03pm ET

Chicago Cubs LHP Tim Collins was called up to the big leagues Tuesday, July 23. In a corresponding move, P Alec Mills was optioned to Class AAA Iowa.

Alec Mills Jul 23 7:03pm ET

Chicago Cubs LHP Tim Collins was called up to the big leagues Tuesday, July 23. In a corresponding move, P Alec Mills was optioned to Class AAA Iowa.

Ronald Guzman Jul 23 7:00pm ET

Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman has been optioned to the minors on Tuesday. Guzman is hitting .193/.282/.396 with eight home runs and 29 RBI this season with Texas. He's been disappointing, so the Rangers will option him to the minors, so he can get in some extra work. Logan Forsythe will play first base and bat seventh versus lefty Tommy Milone on Tuesday. Forsythe is a decent AL-only option right now.

    From RotoBaller

Alec Mills Jul 23 7:00pm ET

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Alec Mills has been optioned to the minors following his start against the San Francisco Giants on Monday. He allowed five runs over 10 1/3 innings of work during his two starts in Chicago. There's a chance he returns to the team at some point, but lefty Tim Collins will join the team in a corresponding move. Collins has been serviceable out of the bullpen, but doesn't have much fantasy value.

    From RotoBaller

Tim Lopes Jul 23 6:53pm ET

Seattle Mariners 2B Dee Gordon (quad) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left quad Tuesday, July 23. The club also recalled INF Tim Lopes from Class AAA Tacoma.

Dexter Fowler Jul 23 6:50pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dexter Fowler (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This appears to be a routine day off for Fowler, so Yairo Munoz will cover center field and bat eighth versus righty Chris Archer. Munoz has been hot with the bat, so the Cardinals are looking for new ways to get him in the lineup. He's a decent cheap DFS option against Archer.

    From RotoBaller

Dylan Bundy Jul 23 6:50pm ET

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Dylan Bundy (knee) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Bundy missed one turn in the rotation due to tendinitis in his right knee. He's on the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Brandon Kline has been sent down in a corresponding move. Bundy hasn't shown many positive things on the mound this season, so he can't be trusted in most leagues right now.

    From RotoBaller

Yonder Alonso Jul 23 6:40pm ET

Colorado Rockies first baseman Yonder Alonso had his contract purchased from Triple-A on Tuesday. Alonso hit .178/.275/.301 with the White Sox before being designated for assignment by the team recently. The Rockies have recalled Alonso after he was crushing the ball in the minors. He'll basically be a bench bat for the team, so he won't have much fantasy value at all.
