Boston Red Sox OF J.D. Martinez (illness) did not play Tuesday, May 21, due to illness, but he's likely to return Wednesday, May 22.
Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco (finger) was a late scratch Tuesday, May 21, due to discomfort on his left hand.
Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez (heel) was not in the starting lineup for a second consecutive game Tuesday, May 21, but did appear as a pinch hitter. Baez is still experiencing soreness in his heel, according to manager Joe Maddon, and Baez will have the injury checked to ensure there's nothing more significant.
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians C Roberto Perez (head) was diagnosed with a concussion after being struck in the mask on Tuesday, May 21. The team will wait until Wednesday, May 22, before deciding whether or not to put Perez on the concussion list, according to manager Terry Francona.
Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis (hip) was removed from the game Tuesday, May 21, and was subsequently placed on the injured list. Davis is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his ailing hip Wednesday, May 22.
Cincinnati Reds OF Yasiel Puig (shoulder) was out of the lineup Tuesday, May 21, but he will not be placed on the injured list, according to manager David Bell.
Milwaukee Brewers OF Christian Yelich (back) will be reevaluated before the team's game Wednesday, May 21, but with it being an early start and the team having the following day off, Yelich may not return until Friday, May 21.
Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (undisclosed) was taken out of the game against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, May 21, due to an apparent injury.
Los Angeles Angels C Kevan Smith (head) was lifted from the game versus the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, May 21, after taking a foul tip off his mask. Smith initially stayed in the game before leaving for good after his at-bat in the fourth inning.
David Peralta departed Tuesday night's game against the Padres with an apparent injury. He was struggling with a trapezius muscle issue last week, but there is no word yet if this was the issue again. He was 0 for 2 with two strikeouts when he was replaced in the field in the bottom of the fifth.
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Jesse Chavez will serve as the opener in front of Adrian Sampson on Wednesday against the Mariners. Chavez has been a lot better in the month of May than in April, but he still carries no fantasy significance in the opener role. Sampson is 1-3 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and just 24 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings in his 10 appearances (five starts), so he should also be avoided for those looking to stream someone on Wednesday.
Los Angeles Angels catcher Kevan Smith (head) left the game early in the bottom of the fourth inning on Tuesday after taking a foul tip off his mask. Smith, the backup to Jonathan Lucroy in Anaheim, was hitless in his two plate appearances before leaving the game. The 30-year-old has been good in limited time in 2019, though, batting .290 with a homer and five RBI in 73 plate appearances. He'll likely be checked for a concussion.
X-rays on Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Pedro Baez (knee) were negative after he left the game early on Tuesday after being hit by a line drive, according to manager Dave Roberts. Baez won't pitch on Wednesday, but the team doesn't expect him to be out for long. The right-hander sports a 3.38 ERA on the season with 22 strikeouts and only four walks in his 21 1/3 innings. Baez doesn't really have any fantasy value as the setup man to closer Kenley Jansen, though.
Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu broke up Justin Verlanders no-hit bid with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday night. It would be the White Sox only hit on the evening and Abreus 11th home run. Abreu is now hitting .259 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI.
New York Mets OF Brandon Nimmo (neck) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on a neck injury that has bothered him off and on since he sat out two games because of it in early April.
New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (neck), who was scratched from the lineup on Tuesday, will undergo an MRI exam on Wednesday. He said he hasn't recovered from the neck injury that cost him two games in April, and it has bothered him ever since. Nimmo hasn't really been good all year and is hitting .136 (6-for-44) with no homers and five RBI in the month of May. He's right at the Mendoza Line (.200) for the season with three long balls, 14 RBI and one steal in 161 plate appearances. It's likely he's been dropped already in most mixed leagues.
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Covey only lasted four innings in a tough matchup versus the Houston Astros Tuesday night. Covey allowed four hits, four runs, four walks and struck out one. Covey now owns a 5.31 ERA and is scheduled to face the Twins in a tough matchup Sunday. The right-hander can be left on waivers in all formats.
Boston Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland hit a solo home run on Tuesday in the Sox loss to the Blue Jays. Although its only been a week, Morelands bat has cooled off a bit from the beginning of the month. Still, hes been one of the Red Sox biggest producers this year. Hes doing it with a career high barrel rate, exit velocity, hard hit percentage, and walk rate. Moreland is only owned in 34 percent of Yahoo leagues despite all of this. Its likely due to a history of some drop off In his production as the season goes on. If you need power, his bat fits nicely in the heart of the Sox lineup against righties. Ride the hot streak and hope it lasts, but be aware that if history repeats itself regression may be coming.
Cleveland Indians C Roberto Perez (head) is reportedly undergoing evaluations for a head injury after leaving the game Tuesday, May 21, against the Oakland Athletics.
Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli (chest) was removed for precautionary reasons Tuesday, May 21, versus the Colorado Rockies with an upper chest contusion.
