Randy Dobnak Feb 27 5:50pm ET

Minnesota Twins pitcher Randy Dobnak made his second start of the Spring and tossed three innings of one-run ball in a 3-3 tie against the Blue Jays. That's back-to-back strong outings for Dobnak, who struck out four in two innings in his last time out. With the injury to Rich Hill and Michael Pineda's suspension, Dobnak could be making the Twins' decision for them in regards to their vacancy for a number-five starter.

Jorge Alfaro Feb 27 5:43pm ET

Miami Marlins C Jorge Alfaro (oblique) was scratched from the starting lineup Thursday, Feb. 27, because of oblique tightness. He is considered day-to-day.

Max Kepler Feb 27 5:30pm ET

Minnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler (back) will make his Spring debut on Friday against the Red Sox. The Twins believe that the soreness in Kepler's back is unrelated to last year's injury, which bodes well for the 27-year-old's fantasy stock heading into the 2020 season. Kepler could score and drive in 90 runs again like he did last year, especially considering the lineup protection he may receive from newcomer Josh Donaldson.

Will Harris Feb 27 5:30pm ET

Washington Nationals relief pitcher Will Harris will be reevaluated in 3-4 days after tweaking his abdomen recently. Harris was slated to make his spring debut before the injury popped up. For now, it appears to be a minor issue. Harris will be a relief ace for the Nationals this year, but Sean Doolittle figures to get the bulk of save opportunities. If Doolittle falters, however, Harris could be next in line for saves. This draft season, Harris doesn't have much value except as a very-late round option in deeper leagues, but certainly keep an eye on him on waivers should an opportunity arise--assuming this abdominal issue doesn't become something larger.

Adeiny Hechavarria Feb 27 5:23pm ET

Atlanta Braves SS Adeiny Hechavarria (oblique) was scratched from the lineup Thursday, Feb. 27, due to left oblique tightness.

Reese McGuire Feb 27 4:40pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire slugged his first long ball of the spring off Twins right-hander Randy Dobnak on Thursday. He has a good chance at cracking the team's Opening Day roster if he can beat out veteran Caleb Joseph for the backup job, and he could even become the starter if Danny Jansen continues to struggle at the dish. McGuire slashed a cool .299/.346/.526 in 105 PA for the Jays last season, but doesn't offer much power for fantasy purposes. The 24-year-old found himself in hot water earlier in camp after exposing himself inside his car while in a parking lot and will appear in court in March to settle the charge. He likely won't contribute much fantasy value outside of AL-only formats this season.

Kyle Freeland Feb 27 4:33pm ET

Colorado Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland (back) left the spring training game early Thursday, Feb. 27, because of back spasms.

    Hyun-Jin Ryu Feb 27 4:20pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays starter Hyun-Jin Ryu made his Grapefruit League debut versus the Twins on Thursday, striking out two batters in two frames of work. He allowed a hard-hit double in the first inning that he worked around before serving up a no-doubt homer to Zander Weil in the second for his only blemish on the scorecard. Ryu's 41-pitch tune-up is exciting for the club that signed him to a four-year $80 million contract this offseason, but his landing spot in the AL East was anything but appealing for fantasy purposes. If health holds up for the left-hander, he should still provide decent ratios, but it's a big "if" entering his age-33 season.

Jorge Alfaro Feb 27 4:20pm ET

Miami Marlins catcher Jorge Alfaro was scratched from Thursday's Grapefruit League lineup due to left oblique tightness. The Marlins will need to be extremely careful with Alfaro, because if the tightness were to become a strain, Alfaro would be looking at significant missed time. He likely won't see Grapefruit League action for a while as a precaution. Alfaro had some ups and downs last season, but overall showed that he could be a contributor at the catcher position in mixed leagues. His health will be something to keep an eye on leading up to fantasy drafts.

Jimmy Nelson Feb 27 4:13pm ET

Los Angeles Dodgers RHP Jimmy Nelson (groin) suffered a setback during his bullpen session Wednesday, Feb. 26, and will be shut down for the time being.

Griffin Canning Feb 27 4:03pm ET

Los Angeles Angels RHP Griffin Canning (elbow) is scheduled to undergo an MRI after dealing with some discomfort in his elbow during a spring training game Wednesday, Feb. 26. Manager Joe Madden said he concerned about the injury.

Will Harris Feb 27 3:53pm ET

Washington Nationals RP Will Harris (abdomen) is dealing with an abdomen injury and will be reevaluated in three to four days.

Edwin Encarnacion Feb 27 3:43pm ET

Chicago White Sox 1B Edwin Encarnacion (back) was scratched from the starting lineup Thursday, Feb. 27, because of back stiffness.

Justin Verlander Feb 27 3:40pm ET

Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander (groin) threw a simulated game on the day he was scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut. The session "went as good as I could have hoped" according to Verlander as he simulated two innings worth of work. The injury does not appear to be serious and the veteran opted to use a more controlled environment to build up his pitch count after feeling discomfort earlier in the week. At this point, this all seems to be precautionary in the early stages of spring training. Verlander should be considered one of the top pitchers off the fantasy board come draft time.

    From RotoBaller

Justin Upton Feb 27 3:30pm ET

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton will be looking to bounce back this season after a knee injury sidelined him for most of 2019. By the time the veteran could make it on the field, he played only 63 games and slashed an abysmal .215/.309/.416. But Upton claims he is healthy and, even better, is excited to not have the pressure of protecting Mike Trout in the lineup all by himself. "I'll be the guy nobody's worried about, which is fun," Upton told reporters in reference to the signing of Anthony Rendon in the offseason. Before last season, Upton posted three straight seasons of 30-plus home runs, 80-plus runs batted in and a slugging percentage of .460 or higher. Hitting those totals is no guarantee but could be a fantasy bargain in 2020 if he can stay healthy.

Lance McCullers Jr. Feb 27 3:30pm ET

Houston Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. (elbow) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday against the Cardinals. It will be the first time McCullers will take the mound since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2018. The Astros are hoping that the right-hander can rejoin the rotation this season, but getting back on the mound is Step 1. McCullers in 2018 went 10-6 with a 3.86 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 128 1/3 innings pitched. Despite the fact that the right-hander missed all of last season, McCullers still has considerable fantasy upside and is worth an investment late in mixed league drafts. At that point, his injury risk is minimized.

    From RotoBaller

Jack Flaherty Feb 27 3:20pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jack Flaherty pitched into the third inning in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Atlanta Braves. He ended up with 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with one strikeout. Flaherty wasn't quite his dominant self in this one, but he was able to limit the damage despite allowing several base runners. Flaherty will get the nod on Opening Day and should be one of the first starting pitchers drafted in most fantasy formats.

    From RotoBaller

Brad Wieck Feb 27 3:03pm ET

Chicago Cubs RP Brad Wieck (heart) underwent a cardiac ablation procedure on Wednesday, Feb. 26, to correct an abnormal heartbeat, the team said in a statement Thursday. 'Brad will rest and rehab for the next week and be evaluated further to establish a timeline for resumption of pitching activities towards the end of the next week,' the Cubs said.

Scott Kingery Feb 27 2:30pm ET

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Scott Kingery launched a two-run homer to dead center in the Phillies Spring Training game against the Red Sox Thursday. Kingery had an up-and-down season last year working in a super-utility role, but the Phillies have plans for him to stick at second base this year and hopefully some consistency will help his bat play up. Kingery batted .258 last season but posted a 45.9 percent hard-hit rate with a solid 26.2 percent line-drive rate. Given his quality of contact and speed, Kingery should be able to hit 20-plus homers and approach 20 stolen bases making him a solid value at his current ADP of 183.

    From RotoBaller

Edwin Encarnacion Feb 27 2:20pm ET

Chicago White Sox first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion (back) has been scratched from Thursdays game with back tightness. More should be known on the sluggers status as the day goes on and he should be considered day-to-day for now. Encarnacion is aging, but will be in the middle of a good White Sox lineup and should help owners looking for power and RBI.
