Toronto Blue Jays RHP Julian Merryweather (oblique) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, May 5. Jake Odorizzi May 5 6:50pm ET

Houston Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi (arm) is set to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. Odorizzi was placed on the injured list a week ago with a strained muscle in his throwing arm. Astros' general manager James Click had said earlier that the veteran starter would likely need to make a couple of rehab starts before making his return to the big club, which seemingly indicates that he isn't recovering as quickly as the team initially hoped. Odorizzi got off to a rough start with a 10.13 ERA through three starts, though his track record as a dependable starter makes him worth holding onto for fantasy managers.

Cody Bellinger May 5 6:40pm ET

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger (leg) still has yet to run at full speed. Bellinger has been sidelined since April 6 with a hairline fracture in his left leg but has been doing work at the team's alternate training site, including taking batting practice and doing running drills, albeit in a limited fashion. The pain in his leg has subsided, and he seems to be trending in the right direction, though his inability to run without limitation puts some uncertainty as to when he'll be able to return to action.

Diego Castillo May 5 6:40pm ET

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Diego Castillo (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with right groin tightness, according to Adam Berry of MLB.com. Castillo had taken over as the team's closer early on following injuries to Pete Fairbanks and Nick Anderson, as he has recorded seven saves with a 3.10 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings of work. Castillo lands on the injured list just as Fairbanks returns from a shoulder injury, so expect Fairbanks to take over as the closer while Castillo is out. But once Castillo returns, he will likely split save opportunities with Fairbanks.

Ben Gamel May 5 6:33pm ET

Cleveland Indians C Roberto Perez (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, May 5, due to a right ring finger fracture. OF Ben Gamel was also designated for assignment. C Rene Rivera had his contract selected from Class AAA Columbus in a corresponding move.

Alex Kirilloff May 5 6:30pm ET

Minnesota Twins outfielder/first baseman Alex Kirilloff (wrist) will get a second opinion on his right wrist sprain. Kirilloff was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday but will travel with the team to Detroit before seeing Dr. Graham, another specialist, in Dayton, Ohio. There's no official timetable for his return from the injury, though manager Rocco Baldelli said he's optimistic that it "won't prove to be a major injury." It's awful timing for Kirilloff, who was riding a seven-game hitting streak with four long balls. The newly-reinstated Miguel Sano will take over for Kirilloff at first base.

Alex Verdugo May 5 6:20pm ET

Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (back) was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a back issue. Verdugo was prepared to play, but the Red Sox are taking a cautious approach with their 24-year-old outfielder, who is experiencing lower-back tightness. Franchy Cordero will get the start in left and bat ninth.

    From RotoBaller

Yusei Kikuchi May 5 6:20pm ET

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi threw seven strong innings Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk. He also struck out seven Orioles. Unfortunately, Kikuchi was saddled with the loss as the Mariners weren't able to muster even a single hit against masterful Baltimore starter John Means. Kikuchi now has back-to-back quality starts, and will look to keep the streak going in his next outing, though his opponent is yet to be determined definitively. Kikuchi was a popular breakout candidate entering 2021, and he deserves to be on fantasy rosters.

    From RotoBaller

Trent Grisham May 5 6:20pm ET

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado and outfielder Trent Grisham are not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates. Manager Jayce Tingler had indicated that Machado would take a seat for a breather, though Grisham was expected to be in the lineup so that one bears watching. Tommy Pham will be in center and bat leadoff, with Ha-Seong Kim taking over for Machado at third and batting eighth.

    From RotoBaller

Max Fried May 5 6:10pm ET

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (hamstring) was activated from the injured list and will be on the mound to face the Nationals on Wednesday. Fried hasn't pitched since April 13 and had struggled in his most recent start, allowing seven earned runs to the Marlins- though he reportedly worked on his mechanics and impressed during a live batting practice session last week. The southpaw will face a Juan Soto-less Nationals lineup but is on a 75-80 pitch limit, making him a less appealing DFS target. Fantasy managers who were burned by Fried's rough start might do well to take a wait-and-see approach with the lefty in their season-long lineups

    From RotoBaller

Enoli Paredes May 5 6:03pm ET

Houston Astros RHP Enoli Paredes (side) was sent on a rehab assignment to Class AA Corpus Christi Wednesday, May 5.

Kohl Stewart May 5 6:03pm ET

Chicago Cubs RHP Kohl Stewart was optioned to Class AAA Iowa Wednesday, May 5.

Chris Martin May 5 6:03pm ET

Atlanta Braves RHP Chris Martin (shoulder) was sent on a rehab assignment to Class AAA Gwinnett Wednesday, May 5,

Gary Sanchez May 5 6:00pm ET

New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros. Sanchez has sat each of the last two games but is behind the plate and batting eighth against Astros' right-hander Luis Garcia. The slugger is in the midst of a 2-for-27 slide at the plate- and is losing ground to fellow backstop Kyle Higashioka.

    From RotoBaller

Brett Gardner May 5 6:00pm ET

New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is getting the start in left field for Wednesday's contest against the Astros. Gardner got a breather on Tuesday but is back in left field with Clint Frazier heading to the bench. The veteran outfielder is hitless in his last three games but has a platoon advantage against Astros' righty Luis Garcia.
