Jameson Taillon May 14 10:50am ET

New York Yankees starting pitcher Jameson Taillon was charged with his third loss of the season in Thursday's defeat at the hands of the Rays. Taillon pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out nine batters with a pair of walks. The 29-year-old ran into trouble in the first and third innings, allowing some traffic on the basepaths and surrendering a pair of runs in each frame. Despite this, Taillon displayed some excellent swing-and-miss stuff, generating 17 whiffs on 95 pitches, including 14 of them on his fastball. He is sporting a 5.40 ERA, but his 3.01 expected ERA, 3.54 expected FIP, and 25 percent K:BB rate point to a pitcher who should have better days ahead. Though he does come with some health concerns, Taillon is a buy-low candidate right now.

Mitch Moreland May 14 10:30am ET

Oakland Athletics designated hitter Mitch Moreland went 2-for-4 with a run scored in a loss to the Red Sox on Thursday. Moreland batted in the two-hole for the first time this season as he's been heating up on the A's current road trip. Moreland has hits in five of his last six games and has cut his strikeout rate to 18 percent after whiffing over 23 percent of the time in April. He'll sit occasionally versus lefties so he's not a must-roster player in fantasy, but he's got a hot bat and has solid matchups on the docket this weekend in Minnesota. Fantasy managers could do worse than picking up Moreland if in need of a bat this weekend.

Sean Manaea May 14 10:10am ET

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Sean Manaea allowed seven runs in only two innings pitched to take the loss Thursday at Boston. Manaea had been putting up good numbers with less-than-ideal peripheral metrics and the other shoe dropped in this one as the Red Sox pounded everything Manaea served up. On the season, the left-hander is sporting a 4.40 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts through 43 innings. He's averaging five strikeouts per walk allowed and has a solid 12 percent swinging-strike rate. Manaea is a quality pitcher to roster in 12-team fantasy leagues and larger, but he's far from a must-start option. A tough matchup with Houston looms in his next scheduled start.

Daniel Vogelbach May 14 9:30am ET

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Daniel Vogelbach went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in the Brewers' 2-0 loss to the Cardinals on Thursday. Vogelbach hit one of the Brewers' two extra-base hits Thursday. He and Luis Urias were the only Brewers to reach base safely twice. The first baseman is slashing .205/.319/.359 in 82 plate appearances. He never hits for average but provides solid power in the lineup. The 28-year-old often sits against southpaws. For fantasy purposes, Vogelbach can be avoided in the majority of league formats.

Casey Mize May 14 9:00am ET

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize has been settling in nicely lately. He has turned in three quality starts in a row, going exactly six innings in each of the three starts. On Thursday, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters that the team will probably start managing Mize's workload in early June. Hinch also added, "But I don't want our guys to think too much about that." It was certainly expected that the Tigers would be cautious with Mize's innings this year. He threw 109.1 innings in the Minors in 2019, then just 28.1 innings with the Tigers in the shortened 2020 season. Fantasy managers should continue to hold on to Mize for now. He could still have value in deep leagues and AL-only leagues when his workload decreases if he continues to pitch as well as he has lately.

Lance Lynn May 14 8:50am ET

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lance Lynn (hand) was hit in the hand by a comebacker during the fourth inning of Thursday's game against the Minnesota Twins. According to White Sox manager Tony LaRussa, you were able to see baseball seams imprinted on Lynn's hand after the incident. Lynn underwent X-rays on his hand and forearm after the game and they came back negative. Lynn was fantastic in the start, earning his fourth win of the year while pitching five innings and allowing just two hits, three walks and one unearned run. He struck out nine. It sounds as if he shouldn't be in jeopardy of missing his next start on Tuesday, which will again be against the Twins.

Brock Holt May 14 8:50am ET

Texas Rangers utility man Brock Holt (hamstring) was seen taking batting practice prior to Thursday's game against the Houston Astros. Holt suffered a left hamstring strain on May 4 and has been on the injured list ever since. He is eligible to be activated from the injured list on Friday, but it's unclear when he'll be ready to return. He will likely need at least a few more days. Through 15 games this year, Holt is slashing .250/.377/.295 with no home runs, two doubles, two stolen bases, five RBI and two runs.

    From RotoBaller

Luis Severino May 14 8:40am ET

New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino (elbow) threw a live batting practice session on Thursday. It was his first time throwing to live hitters since undergoing Tommy John surgery to remove a bone chip from his right elbow in February 2020. Severino threw about 30 pitches in the batting practice session and reportedly touched 96 miles per hour on the radar gun. The Yankees are hoping to have Severino make his return to the rotation sometime around midseason. Thursday's successful session was certainly a big step in the direction toward making that happen.

Mike Moustakas May 14 8:30am ET

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Mike Moustakas (shoulder) was forced to leave Thursday's game against the Colorado Rockies with what was originally reported to be a finger injury. After the game, Reds manager David Bell provided an update on Moustakas, saying that he tweaked his shoulder, but it was nothing to worry about. Bell said that Moustakas would be "back in the lineup for sure tomorrow (Friday)." Fantasy managers should plan to have Moustakas in their lineups on Friday, though it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out for the lineup card. Friday's game between the Reds and Rockies is scheduled for 8:40 PM EST.

    From RotoBaller

Nick Senzel May 14 8:30am ET

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Senzel (heel) was lifted from Thursday's game against the Colorado Rockies after colliding with the outfield wall early on in the game. After the game, Reds manager David Bell said that Senzel suffered a heel contusion and called him day-to-day. Bell said that Senzel could miss Friday's game, but he didn't think it would result in a long-term absence. If Senzel indeed sits on Friday, Tyler Naquin will likely get the start in center field. Through 33 games this year, Senzel is slashing .260/.336/.330 with one home run, four doubles, two stolen bases and 17 runs.

Asdrubal Cabrera May 14 8:20am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) is scheduled to have an MRI on Friday. He suffered a strained right hamstring in the sixth inning of Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins and had to be helped off the field. The injury occurred when he stole a base and took an awkward step. All early indications point toward an extended absence for Cabrera, though we should know more specifics after the MRI. The Diamondbacks have suffered a ton of injuries to their infield this year. With Christian Walker (oblique) and Ketel Marte (hamstring) already out, we're likely to see Josh Rojas and Josh VanMeter see increased playing time in the coming weeks.

    From RotoBaller

Ender Inciarte May 14 8:00am ET

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ender Inciarte (hamstring) was activated from the injured list on Thursday to take the place of injured rookie Cristian Pache. The 30-year-old outfielder will likely receive regular playing time as the club is also without Guillermo Heredia (hamstring). Inciarte is about three years removed from being fantasy relevant but he's shown the ability to hit for average and steal the odd base when his legs are healthy. Prior to his injury, he was hitting .294 in 12 games but had just 17 at-bats and was seeing most of his opportunities off the bench. During the 2020 stunted season, Inciarte hit just .194 with four extra-base hits in 46 games.

    From RotoBaller

Will Smith May 14 7:50am ET

Atlanta Braves pitcher William Smith was crushed by Toronto Blue Jays hitters in the ninth inning of Thursday's game which led to an 8-4 loss. The veteran closer allowed four runs on five hits in just one-third of an inning. Prior to this game, Smith had not allowed a run in his last six appearances. With just 14 1/3 innings under his belt this season, the rough outing ballooned his ERA to 5.02. However, aside from this outing, Smith is actually having a solid season with seven saves and a strikeout rate nearing 29%. Now might be the time to try and low-ball an opposing fantasy manager in an attempt to acquire the veteran hurler while his poor ERA casts a shadow over his overall numbers.

    From RotoBaller

Cristian Pache May 14 7:50am ET

Atlanta Braves outfielder Cristian Pache (hamstring) hit the injured list on Thursday and was replaced by veteran outfielder Ender Inciarte, who was activated after recovering from his own hamstring injury. It's been a rough season for Pache who already suffered through a groin injury earlier in the season. When healthy enough to play, he hit just .111 with an ugly BB-K of 2-25 in 22 games. The rookie is known for his plus defense in center field but has yet to show that he's advanced enough at the plate to produce even average numbers against big league pitchers. When healthy again, he'll likely produce modest fantasy value for the 2021 season.

    From RotoBaller

Charlie Morton May 14 7:30am ET

Atlanta Braves pitcher Charlie Morton struggled through another rough game on Thursday as the club squandered an early lead and lost 8-4 to the Toronto Blue Jays. The 37-year-old veteran allowed just one run through his first four innings but he then hit a wall in the fifth inning, allowed another two runs, and was chased from the game. The right-hander coughed up seven hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings. Over his last four starts, Morton has allowed 18 runs on 20 hits and nine walks in 16 innings. After also posting modest results in 2020, his days of being a strong starting pitcher option in fantasy baseball could be nearing an end.

    From RotoBaller

Tyler Stephenson May 14 6:20am ET

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson went 1-for-2 with a pinch-hit two-run homer in a 13-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. Stephenson was not originally in the lineup but he pinch-hit for Ryan Hendrix in the eighth inning and launched a two-run shot off of reliever Lucas Gilbreath. Stephenson is hitting .305 with two homers, nine runs, and eight RBI in 59 at-bats this season. His bat has shown promise at the big league level but he remains behind starter Tucker Barnhart for at-bats at the catcher spot. For now, Stephenson is only of interest in deep dynasty leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Luis Castillo May 14 6:10am ET

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Luis Castillo allowed eight runs over 3 2/3 innings of work in a 13-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. He struck out three and walked two in the loss. Normally a pitcher struggling in hitter-friendly Coors Field is not a cause for alarm, but this continues a concerning trend for Castillo, who has not pitched well this season. Overall, Castillo has a 1-5 record, 7.71 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, and 29 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings of work. He has just one quality start on the season and has allowed four runs or more in five of his eight starts. Castillo needs to be left on fantasy benches until he starts to show better results. He will face the San Francisco Giants next.

    From RotoBaller

Jonathan India May 14 6:10am ET

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in a 13-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. India went deep off of Colorado reliever Mychal Givens as part of an eight-run eighth inning for the Reds. India got off to a hot start at the plate this season, hitting .325 as of April 16, but he's really cooled at the plate since. Overall, the rookie is hitting .222 with two homers, 11 runs, and 17 RBI in 81 at-bats. He can stay on waivers outside of NL-only leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Asdrubal Cabrera May 14 3:03am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) was removed from the game on Thursday, May 13, after straining his hamstring. Cabrera is set to undergo an MRI on Friday, May 14, to determine the extent of the damage.

Wes Benjamin May 14 2:53am ET

Texas Rangers LHP Wes Benjamin is scheduled to be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in time to start on Friday, May 14, against the Houston Astros.
