Jace Peterson Apr 23 12:43pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers 3B Jace Peterson (thumb) on Friday, April 23, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb injury. The move is retroactive to Thursday, April 22.

Kyle Ryan Apr 23 12:43pm ET

Chicago Cubs RHP Shelby Miller (back) on Friday, April 23, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower-back strain. The move is retroactive to Thursday, April 22. Also Friday, Cubs LHP Kyle Ryan was recalled from the team's alternate training site.

Shelby Miller Apr 23 12:43pm ET

Chicago Cubs RHP Shelby Miller (back) on Friday, April 23, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower-back strain. The move is retroactive to Thursday, April 22. Also Friday, Cubs LHP Kyle Ryan was recalled from the team's alternate training site.

Kolten Wong Apr 23 12:33pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Kolten Wong (oblique) on Friday, April 23, was activated off the 10-day injured list.

Billy Hamilton Apr 23 12:30pm ET

Chicago White Sox outfielder Billy Hamilton (hamstring) has been activated from the 10-day injured list. Hamilton had been sidelined since April 8 with a left hamstring strain. The speedster was getting some run in left field and could get some starts as a good defender on a team with poor defense. Hamilton's return could be bad news for managers who roster first baseman/outfielder Andrew Vaughn. Hamilton is best suited in deeper leagues for those seeking steals, but doesn't offer much value otherwise. He is 3-for-11 on the season with two stolen bases. Pitcher Alex McRae has been sent to the teams alternative training site to make room for the veteran.

Shelby Miller Apr 23 11:50am ET

The Chicago Cubs have placed pitcher Shelby Miller (back) on the 10-day injured list with a low back strain. Miller has made three appearances out of the Cubs bullpen this year and has pitched to a brutal 31.50 ERA. Left-hander Kyle Ryan has replaced Miller on the roster. Both Miller and Ryan should be avoided in all formats.

Jake McGee Apr 23 11:40am ET

San Francisco Giants closer Jake McGee continued to do what he has done all season in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Marlins, notching his league-most seventh save. McGee came on to pitch the ninth inning up by three and proceeded to strike out the side to end the game. The 34-year-old has been stellar for the Giants at the end of games this season, converting seven of eight saves with a 2.61 ERA and a 34.1% strikeout rate. He is looking like a fantasy stud in terms of relief pitchers/closers for this season, and fantasy managers should have him in their lineups at all times.

Daniel Castano Apr 23 11:30am ET

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Daniel Castano settled in after a rough first inning in Thursday night's game against the San Francisco Giants. In total, Castano ended up pitching five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two. All three runs scored in the 3-0 game came around in the first inning. It wasn't a great start overall from the lefty, but it was impressive to see Castano keep his composure and keep his team in the game despite the bad inning right at the start. Castano is likely sticking in the rotation for a while, but his lack of swing-and-miss stuff doesn't make him a particularly attractive fantasy asset.

Aaron Sanchez Apr 23 11:30am ET

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez earned his first win as a Giant in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Marlins. Sanchez pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and no walks with two strikeouts. The 28-year-old had looked solid in his first four starts with the Giants, posting a 1.83 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, and a 17.5% strikeout rate. While it is still early, Sanchez is looking like the fantasy-relevant pitcher he was in the beginning of his career. Rostered in just 10 percent of leagues, Sanchez is worth more than a streaming look. He'll look to keep things rolling in his next start in a decent matchup against the Rockies at home.

Anthony Rendon Apr 23 10:53am ET

Los Angeles Angels 3B Anthony Rendon (groin) is likely to be out until next week, according to manager Joe Maddon

Cristian Javier Apr 23 9:20am ET

Houston Astros starting pitcher Cristian Javier was dominant in Thursday's win over the Angels. Javier pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk while fanning nine batters. The 24-year-old raced out of the gate, becoming the first Astros pitcher to record the first eight outs of a game via the strikeout since 1986. Javier's fastball-slider combo was devastating on Thursday night, as the two offerings combined for 19 of his 21 whiffs. Javier hasn't allowed a run in his last 10 innings pitched- and owns a 1.32 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 20:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in two starts this year. He needs to be scooped up off waivers wherever available ahead of his next start against the Mariners.

    From RotoBaller

Walker Buehler Apr 23 9:10am ET

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler had a strong outing despite the no-decision on Thursday. Buehler pitched seven innings, surrendering two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts compared to no walks. The 26-year-old retired nine straight batters to start the game, with the two blemishes being an RBI single to Manny Machado and a home run to Trent Grisham. Buehler had the fastball working well, throwing it 50 percent of the time and generating 14 of his 15 whiffs off the pitch, at one point touching 97.5 MPH on the radar gun. He has just one win to show for it, but Buehler will take an excellent 2.16 ERA and 21:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio across four starts into his next outing against the Reds on April 27.

Mike Trout Apr 23 9:00am ET

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (elbow) is expected to be good to go for Friday's game. Angels fans and fantasy managers alike got a scare on Thursday night when Trout was hit on the elbow by a Cristian Javier pitch, though it seems like he was removed as a precaution- and the pitch mostly got his elbow pad. Manager Joe Maddon believes that the three-time MVP will be in the lineup for Friday's matchup against Astros' right-hander Zack Greinke. Trout is off to a fast start at the dish, batting .393 with six homers and 27 combined runs and RBI through 17 games.

Elieser Hernandez Apr 23 8:50am ET

Miami Marlins starting pitchers Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) and starting pitcher Elieser Hernandez (biceps) are throwing without issues. Both hurlers have been able to toss, though Hernandez is farther along, having thrown 90 feet with bullpen work slated for next week. Sanchez has progressed from throwing 45 feet to 60 feet without issue or setback, so he's certainly heading in the right direction as well. Both Hernandez, who struck out 11.9 batters per nine innings last year, and Sanchez, who fanned 10 batters in just his second big-league start last year, possess a fair amount of strikeout upside when they're healthy. Both remain without a timetable for their returns.

Dinelson Lamet Apr 23 8:40am ET

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet (forearm) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday- though the team is planning for him to start as soon as he's eligible to be activated. It didn't look good when Lamet had to be removed from his first start early, but the team remains optimistic that he didn't sustain any structural damage to his throwing arm or elbow- and won't require an MRI. It sounds like this will be a short stint on the injured list for the promising 28-year-old though fantasy managers might want to wait to see if he can make it through a start healthy before committing to him in any formats.

Michael Conforto Apr 23 8:40am ET

New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto went just 1-for-4 with a double in the Mets' 4-3 loss to the Cubs on Thursday. Conforto continues to struggle at the plate and is hitting only .178/.315/.244 on the season with no home runs and three RBI. While the slow start is disconcerting, Conforto is coming off a 2020 campaign largely supported by underlying metrics in which he posted a .322/.412/.927 line with a career-high .927 OPS, nine home runs, and 31 RBI in 202 at-bats. Conforto should provide managers around 30 home runs and 90-100 RBI over the course of a full season hitting in the middle of the Mets lineup. Managers rostering Conforto should remain patient with the 28-year old. That said, it would be understandable for managers in shallow leagues to place Conforto on the bench while he works out his early-season struggles.

Alex Kirilloff Apr 23 8:30am ET

Minnesota Twins outfielder Alex Kirilloff will get the call to join the team on Friday. Kirilloff had already appeared in a game for the Twins this season, though it was as the 27th man, and he was promptly sent back down to the alternate site. However, the organization's number-two ranked prospect figures to have more staying power this time around, given the injuries and positive COVID-19 tests the Twins are dealing with at first base and in the outfield, positions Kirilloff just so happens to play. Kirilloff will likely split time between first and the corner outfield spots with Miguel Sano (hamstring) headed for the injured list, though he could stay up with the big club for the rest of the season, given the struggles of Jake Cave, who has .347 OPS and 21 strikeouts compared to four walks this season. Kirilloff possesses batting average and home run upside in the powerful Twins' lineup.

    From RotoBaller

Miguel Sano Apr 23 8:20am ET

Minnesota Twins first/third baseman Miguel Sano (hamstring) will be placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday. Sano was initially considered day-to-day with right hamstring tightness, though the team opted to put him on the injured list after he missed each of the last two contests. The slugger was off to a slow start to the 2021 season, batting just .111 with two homers, though he has drawn 13 walks in 45 at-bats. The Twins will reportedly call up Alex Kirilloff in a corresponding move- Kirilloff figures to see a healthy amount of at-bats between first and the Twins' shorthanded outfield.

    From RotoBaller

Dominic Smith Apr 23 8:20am ET

New York Mets first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the Mets' 4-3 loss to the Cubs on Thursday. Smith had been struggling at the plate so the multiple-hit performance was a welcome sight. Smith raised his slash line on the season to a modest .250/.275/.417 over 51 plate appearances. He has just two home runs and six RBI on the season. Despite his slow start, Smith has an xBA of .338, an xSLG of .634, and an xwOBA of .445 which are all in the top seven percent of MLB. These metrics, combined with his current overall barrel rate of 14.3% (which is in the top 17% of MLB), suggest that he has been unlucky and could be on the verge of breaking out. Now hitting third consistently in the Mets' lineup, fantasy managers should continue to keep Smith active in all formats.
