Paul Fry Fri Aug 19 7:03pm ET

Arizona Diamondbacks LHP Paul Fry was outrighted to Class AAA Reno Friday, Aug. 19.

JoJo Romero Fri Aug 19 7:03pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals RHP Ryan Helsley was placed on the paternity list Friday, Aug. 19. The team also recalled LHP JoJo Romero from Class AAA Memphis.

Aaron Ashby Fri Aug 19 7:00pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Ashby was torched on Friday, allowing six runs on eight hits over his five innings of work in an 8-7 loss against the Chicago Cubs. Ashby struck out eight and didn't walk a batter, which is a good sign for the young lefty considering his struggles with control, but the results still weren't there for him in this one. Ashby certainly has the stuff to be a major asset to both the Brewers and fantasy managers, but hasn't quite been able to put it together for long stretches of time this season. He now owns a 2-10 record to go along with a 4.58 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts over 96 IP. He simply can't be trusted right now in any format, but remains a strong dynasty asset. He is a clear sit next week, as he takes on the Dodgers.

Keegan Thompson Fri Aug 19 7:00pm ET

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Keegan Thompson had a rough start against the Brewers on Friday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over three and two-thirds innings. Although Thompson has been useful this season, he has really struggled recently, pitching to an 8.44 ERA in four August starts. This coincides with his velocity being down over this time period, which was especially notable today as most of his pitchers were two miles per hour slower than his yearly average, including his four-seamer. Thompson was already getting by on what seemed to be smoke-and-mirrors, and if he's losing velocity on top of that it's hard to see him being useful. He shouldn't be started next week, as he faces a solid Cardinals lineup.

Juan Yepez Fri Aug 19 6:53pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals INF Juan Yepez (forearm) was activated from the injured list Friday, Aug. 19, and has been optioned to Class AAA Memphis.

Parker Bugg Fri Aug 19 6:53pm ET

Miami Marlins RHP Parker Bugg was outrighted to Class AAA Jacksonville Friday, Aug. 19.

Norge Ruiz Fri Aug 19 6:53pm ET

Oakland Athletics RHP Norge Ruiz had his contract selected from Class AAA Las Vegas Friday, Aug. 19. The team also optioned RHP Domingo Tapia to Class AAA Las Vegas.

Juan Yepez Fri Aug 19 6:50pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Juan Yepez (forearm) has been activated off the IL and sent to Triple-A Memphis. Yepez had been contributing nicely for the Cardinals, but was slumping hard in July, slashing just .149/.196/.277 with two homers over 47 at-bats. With Lars Nootbaar heating up and Tyler O'Neill, Dylan Carlson, and Brendan Donovan contributing in different ways for the Cardinals, it appears there just isn't a spot right now for Yepez. The team likely wants him to keep getting at-bats instead of sitting on the bench with the major league team. Expect him to be called up as soon as a spot opens up, and when that happens be ready to add him in standard or deep leagues where outfield help is needed.

Travis Demeritte Fri Aug 19 6:43pm ET

Atlanta Braves INF Travis Demeritte was outrighted to Class AAA Gwinnett Friday, Aug. 19.

Domingo Tapia Fri Aug 19 6:43pm ET

Oakland Athletics RHP Norge Ruiz had his contract selected from Class AAA Las Vegas Friday, Aug. 19. The team also optioned RHP Domingo Tapia to Class AAA Las Vegas.

Ryan Helsley Fri Aug 19 6:40pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Ryan Helsley (personal) has been placed on paternity leave by the team. The fireballer will likely miss all of this weekend's series against the Arizona Diamondbacks as he awaits the arrival of his baby. Helsley has been a revelation this season, taking over the Cardinals' closer job while consistently hitting 100mph with his fastball. He also has an astounding 0.91 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts over 49 IP while recording 12 saves in 15 attempts. Giovanny Gallegos is the favorite to vulture saves this weekend while Helsley is away from the team.

Joe Barlow Fri Aug 19 6:33pm ET

Texas Rangers RHP Joe Barlow (finger) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, Aug. 19, because of a blister on his finger. The team also recalled RHP A.J. Alexy from Class AAA Round Rock.

    A.J. Alexy Fri Aug 19 6:33pm ET

Texas Rangers RHP Joe Barlow (finger) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, Aug. 19, because of a blister on his finger. The team also recalled RHP A.J. Alexy from Class AAA Round Rock.

George Springer Fri Aug 19 6:30pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (knee) is not in the lineup Friday after fouling a ball off his knee in Thursday's game against the New York Yankees. Springer has dealt with his fair share of injuries over the last few years, and although this doesn't sound like a serious injury, the Jays will likely take every precaution to ensure their star outfielder is healthy down the stretch. Springer is having a productive fantasy season, slashing .267/.343/.477 with 18 homers and 10 swipes. Expect the five-category production to continue when Springer gets back in the lineup, which could be as soon as Saturday. Whit Merrifield will take over Springer in centerfield tonight.

Joe Barlow Fri Aug 19 6:30pm ET

Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Joe Barlow (finger) is headed back to the IL. Barlow is once again dealing with a blister issue on his right index finger, and it is bad enough that he is making a second trip to the injured list because of it. Barlow has pitched well this season, with a 3.16 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts over 31 IP to go along with 13 saves in 17 attempts. At one point, Barlow was the clear-cut closer for the Rangers, but with his injuries and the emergence of Jonathan Hernandez, it appears that he has lost his job and could be hard-pressed to get it back even when he returns from injury. Fantasy managers who were hoping Barlow would return to the closer role should check to see if Hernandez is still available and pick him up immediately if he is.

Kyle Stowers Fri Aug 19 6:10pm ET

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Kyle Stowers has been called up by the team and will hit fifth in his return from the minors on Friday. Stowers was first called up in mid-June, but only appeared in two games before being sent back down. The Orioles' ninth-ranked prospect has played exclusively at Triple-A this season, outside of his brief MLB stint, and has put up good numbers, slashing .264/.357/.527 with 19 homers. Strikeouts remain a problem for the 24-year-old, but he has managed to cut his strikeout rate back from 32.3% last year to 25.6% this year. According to manager Brandon Hyde, Stowers will see a lot of action, making him relevant in deeper leagues where outfield depth could be lacking.

    From RotoBaller

Antonio Senzatela Fri Aug 19 5:00pm ET

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela (knee) tore his left ACL when he was forced to exit his start early on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Senzatela was officially placed on the injured list on Friday and will miss the rest of the season. There's also a good chance that the 27-year-old right-hander won't be ready for the start of the 2023 regular season. He'll finish his 2022 campaign with a 3-7 record, a 5.07 ERA (4.06 FIP), a 1.69 WHIP and an underwhelming 54:23 K:BB in 92 1/3 innings pitched over his 19 starts. Senzatela wasn't much of a fantasy option in mixed leagues and can now safely be dropped by anyone that still had him rostered in deeper formats.
