San Diego Padres catcher Jorge Alfaro (knee) isn't starting Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He was removed from Monday's game due to a knee issue. The 29-year-old has now missed back-to-back games and is considered day-to-day. His next chance to return to the lineup will be Friday against the Washington Nationals. Austin Nola will handle catching duties and is batting ninth in Wednesday's contest. Nola has collected a hit in three of his last five games and can be used as a streamer while he's locked in the plate recently.

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (wrist) and outfielder Harold Ramirez (thumb) could be ready to resume taking live batting practice as soon as Friday. He underwent surgery to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist mid-July. If everything checks out, the 21-year-old is expected to take some light swings on Friday and could face live pitching. Franco slashed .260/.308/.396 slash line over 58 games on the season to go along with five home runs, five stolen bases, 23 RBI, and 34 runs in 58 games before landing on the injured list. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Franco and could have the phenom by late August.

Oakland Athletics RHP Paul Blackburn (finger) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday, Aug. 10, due to an inflamed right middle finger. In addition, INF Jed Lowrie was designated for assignment and OF Cal Stevenson and LHP J.P. Sears were called up from the minors.
The Oakland Athletics placed pitcher Paul Blackburn (finger) on the 15-day injured list with an inflamed right middle finger. He was initially scheduled to start Wednesday against the Angels, but the A's decided to place him on the IL. Blackburn said, "he's been pitching with the finger discomfort, and it was more sore after his last start." Blackburn will see a hand specialist Monday and is hopeful not to miss too much time. The 28-year-old owns a 4.28 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts over 111 1/3 innings in 2022. JP Sears was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Sears was acquired by the A's in the Frankie Montas trade with the Yankees. The 26-year-old owned a 2.05 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in 22 innings with New York in 2022.

Cleveland Guardians RHP James Karinchak will not travel with the team for the series against the Toronto Blue Jays because he is unvaccinated, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
New York Yankees 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) returned to the lineup on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
San Francisco Giants C Joey Bart (ankle) is dealing with an unspecified ankle injury, per Evan Webeck of the Mercury News on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz is getting the day off on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. The breather comes a day after Ruiz went off with two home runs and four RBI in Tuesday's 6-5 victory. The 24-year-old backstop is now hitting .247/.307/.359 with six home runs, 29 RBI, 26 runs scored and five stolen bases in 320 at-bats for the last-place Nationals. Tres Barrera will do the catching on Wednesday and is hitting ninth against Cubs left-hander Justin Steele. Barrera needs to be avoided in DFS, as he's hitting just .167 (4-for-24) with no homers and four RBI in 10 games for the Nats in 2022.

Atlanta Braves OF Adam Duvall (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday, Aug. 10. In addition, INF Orlando Arcia (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring, RHP Huascar Ynoa was optioned to the minors and INF Mike Ford was reinstated from the 10-day injured list, designated for assignment and then released.

Atlanta Braves INF Vaughn Grissom was called up from the minors on Wednesday, Aug. 10. In addition, RHP Kirby Yates (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list.
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Choi has been in a bit of a slump at the plate recently, so he'll take a seat against a right-handed pitcher in Brandon Woodruff. He's gone 7-for-53 (.132) with a homer, five RBI and 17 strikeouts in 15 games since the All-Star break to drop his season line to .249/.351/.398 with eight home runs, 46 RBI and 28 runs scored in 316 plate appearances. Isaac Paredes is starting at first base on Wednesday and is hitting cleanup against Woodruff. Paredes is a real power threat with 14 home runs in just 213 at-bats, but he's also hitting just .221 on the year with a .294 on-base percentage. He's 8-for-39 (.205) with no homers and two RBI in 11 games over the last two weeks.

The Atlanta Braves are calling up top prospect Vaughn Grissom from Double-A Mississippi on Wednesday. The 21-year-old shortstop has hit a combined .324/.405/.494 with an .899 OPS, 14 home runs, 67 RBI, 72 runs scored and 27 stolen bases in 442 plate appearances over 96 games with High-A Rome and Mississippi this year in the minors. In 22 games at Double-A, he slashed .363/.408/.517 with a .925 OPS, three homers, 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and seven steals. Shortstop is blocked by Dansby Swanson, but with both Ozzie Albies and Orlando Arcia on the injured list, Grissom could play regularly at second base for the Braves in the immediate future. Grissom's power/speed combination warrants a look in most fantasy formats.

The Atlanta Braves activated relief pitcher Kirby Yates (elbow) from the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. Yates had Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on his right arm in March of last year and hasn't pitched at all in the big leagues since 2020. On his minor league rehab assignment, he posted a nice 1.08 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, 10 strikeouts and two walks in 8 1/3 innings pitched between the Florida Complex League, Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett. The 35-year-old had 41 saves with the San Diego Padres back in 2019, but with Raisel Iglesias and Kenley Jansen already at the back end of the team's bullpen, it's unlikely that Yates will see many save chances to close out the year, if any at all.
From RotoBaller
Atlanta Braves left-handed reliever Tyler Matzek picked up his first save of the season in Tuesday night's 9-7 extra-inning win over the Boston Red Sox. The 31-year-old struck out two in a perfect inning of work in the 11th frame. Raisel Iglesias was charged with a blown save after working the eighth inning, and closer Kenley Jansen entered in the ninth to keep the game tied going into extra innings. On the season, Matzek is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, 21 strikeouts and 15 walks in 25 2/3 innings of work. He also has six holds. Matzek isn't all that attractive in fantasy due to his 19.6% strikeout rate and bloated 14% walk rate.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk went 5-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored in the 16-5 shellacking of the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. It was one of those Coors Field nightmares for the Cardinals, but Grichuk certainly had fun and is now slashing .270/.312/.435 with 12 home runs, 58 RBI, 43 runs scored and three stolen bases in 345 at-bats in 2022. Since the All-Star break, he's been hot, going 23-for-63 (.365) with three home runs, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored in 18 games. So far in August, he's hitting .375 (12-for-32) with three homers, seven RBI and seven runs scored in nine games. Grichuk needs to be kept in starting lineups until he cools off.
