Preston Williams Aug 17 1:10pm ET

Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver Preston Williams wasn't able to repeat his outstanding performance in Week 1 of the preseason on Friday against the Buccaneers. He caught just one pass from quarterback Josh Rosen for seven yards on six targets. Williams impressed the team during offseason workouts and has upside as a flashy receiver that can make highlight-reel plays with the best of him, but he won't be consistent in Year 1 and is fighting an uphill battle for playing time behind the likes of Devante Parker, Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson. Williams is merely a player to watch as he looks to earn the trust of coaches and teammates.

Nick Foles Aug 17 1:10pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles hasn't played yet in the preseason, but there's already reason to worry about the team's offensive line depth and how that could impact Foles this year. Jacksonville's two starting tackles -- Cam Robinson and Jawaan Taylor -- are injured, and the backup tackles have struggled in pass protection this preseason. If the Jaguars don't get healthy on the line, Foles could be under a lot of pressure. Foles is being drafted outside of the top-20 at quarterback, and while he has the upside to finish as a solid QB2, things need to go almost perfectly for that to happen. These line issues are a scary start.

Virgil Green Aug 17 1:10pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers tight end Virgil Green finished 2018 on a high note by snagging a touchdown in LA's playoff game with the Patriots, but receiving isn't really his forte. Instead, Green is an extra lineman in the run game who happens to be quick enough to catch some passes. His blocking has kept him in the league this long, and other members of the team are already singing his praises for it again this season. Tight end Hunter Henry took to the mic this week and was gushing about how much of a beast Green is in the run game. Green isn't going to set any receiving records, but his blocking will likely get him plenty of snaps again this year.

Doug Marrone Aug 17 1:00pm ET

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released quarterback Tanner Lee. That leaves the Jags with three quarterbacks on their roster, including starting quarterback Nick Foles and rookie Gardner Minshew. Lee had been fighting with Alex McGough for the third-string job, but it now appears that McGough will either have that spot on the roster or the team will choose to go into the year with just two quarterbacks. This doesn't change much from a re-draft standpoint, though it does seem to suggest that head coach Doug Marrone has more trust in Minshew heading into the year, making him an intriguing bench option in dynasty leagues.

Cam Newton Aug 17 1:00pm ET

None of the Carolina Panthers backup quarterbacks stood out in Friday's preseason action against the Bills. Quarterback Kyle Allen went 4-for-11 for 32 yards. Rookie Will Grier went 10-for-19 for 75 yards but also had several overthrown balls, missed targets and threw an interception that was returned for a score. Taylor Heinicke finished 8-for-12 for 78 yards and led a touchdown drive. The job behind Cam Newton remains wide open as the team evaluates their options. Heinicke may have the leg up because he was the backup in 2018, but this competition is far from over.

Travis Benjamin Aug 17 12:50pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Travis Benjamin has bumped up in the depth chart this season with the departure of Tyrell Williams, and he's now taken on the role of big brother. Since Benjamin is the team's longest-tenured receiver, though he's only been with LA since 2016, he's apparently become a source of wisdom and advice for the younger generation. He told reporters this week that he's made a point of trying to ensure he's showing the younger guys the right way to do things, and the coaches have been sending guys to him for help when they ask questions. Benjamin should be the team's primary deep threat this season, and with Keenan Allen hobbled by an ankle injury, he may have a big start to the year.

    From RotoBaller

Adrian Phillips Aug 17 12:50pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (foot) will have surgery to fix a stress fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his foot and is expected to be out for three months, sources informed of the situation told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. James made the Pro Bowl and was an All-Pro in his rookie season for the Bolts, so this will significantly weaken their secondary for the first three months of the season. Adrian Phillips should see significantly more playing time while James is out. While this is a blow to the team's overall defense, LA's defense/special teams will remain a strong pick in fantasy drafts.

    From RotoBaller

Aldrick Rosas Aug 17 12:40pm ET

New York Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas is coming off of an impressive 2018 Pro Bowl season where he went 32 of 33 on field-goal attempts and only missed one extra point on 32 attempts. Rosas could be an integral part of anybody's fantasy team that is in need of a consistent kicker. Rosas averaged nine fantasy points per game in 2018. Fantasy sports are driven on consistency and Rosas not only proved that he can be consistent week after week, but he proved that he can consistently exceed expectations.

    From RotoBaller

Marqise Lee Aug 17 12:40pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee (knee) could start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would cost him the first six games of the regular season. Lee was expected to be back healthy and ready to earn one of Jacksonville's top roles on offense, but his recovery from a knee injury suffered last preseason has been slow. Lee will be fighting an uphill battle to earn a role when he returns to the field and might wind up as Jacksonville's fourth receiver when all is said and done. Avoid him in redraft leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Michael Badgley Aug 17 12:40pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers kicker Mike Badgley sprung on the scene last season to snag the job and ran with it. Now, he's hoping nobody talks about him. Badgley told reporters this week that while he doesn't have any specific competition in camp, he still feels like he's proving something every time he kicks because veterans like Philip Rivers, Mike Pouncey, and Thomas Davis are watching. With that kind of pressure on himself, he noted that ideally, nobody will have to talk about him. They'll just know that he's going to do his job. With an offense that is already being affected by a holdout and an injury amongst top skill players, expect Badgley to get plenty of opportunities this season.

    From RotoBaller

Drew Brees Aug 17 12:30pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is making the most out of the team's joint practices with the Los Angeles Chargers. Brees doesn't usually see a lot of playing time in preseason games. On Thursday, Brees spoke with the media to talk about his repetitions with the team and had this to say about joint practices: Yeah, Id say for me its even more valuable because Im getting a lot more reps obviously in these practices than I would be getting in a preseason game. You script situations you do not always encounter every situation in a preseason game. Brees remains a low-end QB1 this season.

    From RotoBaller

Philip Rivers Aug 17 12:20pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will not play on Sunday, according to head coach Anthony Lynn. It's not a surprising move for a team that is currently missing its No. 1 running back, its No. 1 wide receiver, and its No. 1 safety while still holding out hopes for a Super Bowl run. Rivers certainly doesn't need to prove anything in the preseason, as the 37-year-old is coming off a 4,300-yard season that included 32 touchdown passes. Instead, the backup competition between Cardale Jones, Easton Stick, and Tyrod Taylor should gain plenty of attention. Rivers also came out in support of teammate Melvin Gordon this week and said his own contract will be addressed next offseason.

    From RotoBaller

    O.J. Howard Aug 17 7:44am ET

Buccaneers tight end O.J. Howard was targeted twice and hauled in one catch for 16 yards Friday against the Dolphins. This was only the second game of the preseason which makes sense as to why he was not heavily involved ankle injury cut his 2018 short and the last thing Tampa wants is for him to get hurt again in meaningless preseason games. Howard did not play in week one as he is presumably one of the Buccaneers' premier players. He absolutely is worth his round five ADP at the moment due to his performance last season, presence of Bruce Arians, and the load of targets available with the departures of Adam Humphries and DeSean Jackson.

    Marquez Valdes-Scantling Aug 17 7:40am ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been finding it tough to make an impact in the preseason. However, the stories coming out of training camp mean that fantasy owners shouldn't be too worried about that. Valdes-Scantling has been touted as the second option in the Packers offense, behind Davante Adams. The Packers offense is thought to be on the up under Matt LaFleur's leadership, and so there should be plenty of opportunities to be fantasy relevant. In the mid-rounds, Valdes-Scantling is a great value for fantasy owners.

    From RotoBaller

Jace Sternberger Aug 17 7:30am ET

Green Bay Packers tight end Jace Sternberger is still yet to see any significant time on the field for the team. The Packers have incumbent veteran Jimmy Graham as the starting tight end, who has impressed this offseason. However, Robert Tonyan has been making improvements in offseason and could challenge Sternberger as the pass-catching tight end on the roster. Sternberger is unlikely to be fantasy relevant this season, especially if he continues to miss time through injury.

    From RotoBaller

Kareem Hunt Aug 17 7:20am ET

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt could see "meaningful action" during Saturday's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. Hunt struggled with a groin injury early in camp and did not take the field last Thursday in the team's preseason opener against Washington. Hunt saw a lot of reps in this past Thursday's practice and only has limited preseason time to get acclimated to the offense before his eight-game suspension begins. It will be worth monitoring how the team uses Hunt in the offense on Saturday against the Colts.

    From RotoBaller

Jake Kumerow Aug 17 7:10am ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jake Kumerow has been impressing in preseason so far. In doing so, Kumerow has really put his case forward to be the next man up if any of the starting trio of receivers miss time in the season. Kumerow has really developed over the past season and has strengthened his rapport with starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While he is unlikely to be drafted by fantasy owners this season, he is certainly a player to monitor for waiver wire pickup.

    From RotoBaller

Dexter Williams Aug 17 7:00am ET

Green Bay Packers running back Dexter Williams has a chance to make an impact this season. Fellow running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams have struggled with fitness during the offseason and are yet to take the field. Dexter Williams may have fumbled in the preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, but given the struggles of the other players in camp- Williams should be set to be the next man up in the new offense in Green Bay.

    From RotoBaller

Equanimeous St. Brown Aug 17 7:00am ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown is more likely to be cut than make a real impact on the field this season. St.Brown entered camp potentially looking to challenge Marquez Valdes-Scantling for the third receiver spot on the Packers offense, but that has not been the case. St. Brown has been limited in the preseason games that have been played so far and didn't get a single reception and only one target in the teams recent loss to Baltimore Ravens. Jake Kumerow looks to be the next player up if either of the starting trio miss time, meaning St. Brown is currently buried on the Packers depth chart

    From RotoBaller

Ndamukong Suh Aug 17 4:30am ET

This is fairly obvious given how poor the Bucs' defense has been over the past few seasons, but is still worth pointing out even with the Bucs' additions throughout the offseason. They essentially replaced Gerald McCoy with Ndamukong Suh, Kwon Alexander with Devin White, and upgraded their secondary with several mid-round defensive backs, however, none of this will make much of a difference. The Bucs still do not possess much of an edge presence, they have no high-end secondary talent, and they lost last season's first-round pick, Vita Vea, to injury again for a chunk of the regular season. Avoid them even in deeper leagues unless they miraculously gel the first month or have a string of poor opposing offenses lined up.
