Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (appendectomy) was running sprints ahead of Friday's preseason bout against Arizona. Although the signal-caller is still working his way back from surgery, it appears he's inching closer to a return. The 25-year-old is coming off a fantastic 2021-22 campaign, finishing his sophomore year by throwing for 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns (14 interceptions) while completing over 70% of his passing attempts. Head coach Zac Taylor won't give a definitive update on Burrow's status for Week 1. However, he's anticipated to be ready. With Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Joe Mixon at Burrow's disposal, the former LSU Tiger has an excellent shot to finish as the year's top fantasy quarterback, or at least close to it.

He finished with 19 yards and was also on the receiving end of Detroit's lone passing touchdown. Funchess hasn't played a regular-season snap since Week 1 of the 2019 season, but he has converted from wide receiver to tight end and remains persistent in his attempt to secure a roster spot. With the Lions committing roster spots to T.J. Hockenson and a blocking tight end, Funchess is vying for the third and final tight end role in Detroit's offense. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen (concussion) exited Friday's preseason matchup versus the Arizona Cardinals. He will not return. With Joe Burrow (appendectomy) sitting this one out, Allen was handling things under center, although the 29-year-old didn't last long. He has been a relatively reliable backup over his last two years in Cincinnati, accumulating 1,074 yards, seven touchdowns (four interceptions), and completing 60.8% of his passes. While Allen's status is unknown moving ahead, Jake Browning and Drew Plitt will likely see plenty of action during the rest of the preseason if he isn't available.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson completed one of five passes for seven yards in Friday's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Watson was playing without most of Cleveland's starters on offense, including Amari Cooper and Nick Chubb during the contest. He lasted three drives before giving way to Josh Dobbs at quarterback. Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders' production in 2022 could be restricted by his ongoing struggles in the passing game as "he continues to fight the ball at times," according to Bo Wulf of The Athletic. This is not a major surprise considering he has been held to 54 catches and 355 receiving yards over his last two seasons combined. For comparison, he caught 50 passes for 509 yards in his rookie season alone. New England Patriots wide receiver Tre Nixon is trending up after the team's loss to the New York Giants on Thursday, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic. After impressing in training camp, Nixon totaled four catches for 81 yards in the preseason opener. When asked about Nixon after the game, head coach Bill Belichick said, "Hard-working kid, tough kid, looking for an opportunity. Nobody works harder than he does. He's one of the hardest working players on the team." That's certainly a glowing report from a coach who values work ethic so highly. The Patriots' receiver room is deep, but so far, Nixon looks like he might sneak onto the roster if the team decides to carry six receivers.
