Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers (Achilles) could return if the Rams make the playoffs, according to head coach Sean McVay. At this point, the Rams seem like a lock to get into the postseason as they look like a top-3 team in the NFC. Still, McVay made no guarantees that the 2020 second-round pick would be available for a playoff run, as he simply said: "he wouldn't rule it out." "He's on track to do that, he was running at 80% body weight at 10 miles per hour pretty effortlessly," said McVay. Upon his return, the former Florida State star will likely be eased back into a significant workload, as Darrell Henderson Jr. has been the workhorse this season. However, the Rams likely want Akers to regain that role as soon as possible while not compromising his health going into next year.
New Orleans Saints kicker Wil Lutz (groin) announced on Tuesday that he suffered a setback in his recovery and will shift his focus to being fully healthy for the 2022 season, meaning he will miss the remainder of the 2021 campaign. Brian Johnson made both of his field goals on Monday night in Seattle, one of which was the eventual game-winner in the 13-10 final. For now, Johnson could be a streaming option as a fill-in for BYE weeks until he proves he can produce consistent fantasy numbers.
The Seattle Seahawks defense has been one of the worst groups in football this season, but they showed some life in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, and the poor weather certainly helped their cause. They held the Saints to just 304 yards of total offense in a game where New Orleans ran 68 total plays. They held the Saints to just 13 points and were able to get a pair of sacks and generate a turnover on the night. Seattle's defense won't be this good every week, but they will have another favorable matchup in Week 8 against the one-win Jacksonville Jaguars and rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence, so they could be worth streaming for a second straight week.
Seattle Seahawks kicker Jason Myers was a locked-in starting kicker a season ago, but it's become clear this year that he's become unreliable for fantasy managers, especially following his performance in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. With the brutal weather at home, Myers went just 1-for-3 on field goals and made his lone extra-point attempt. His lone make came from 50 yards, which helped boost his final point total to four points in standard kicking formats. As long as Geno Smith remains under center with starting quarterback Russell Wilson (finger) on Injured Reserve, Myers won't be fantasy viable moving forward.
Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny hadn't played since Week 1, and it sure looked like it in his return during the team's Week 7 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. Penny finished the game with six carries for nine yards, with a long of five yards. Penny was on the field for 36 percent of the snaps, which was second only to teammate Alex Collins' 39 percent. However, Collins had 17 total touches with the rest of the running backs totaling just seven. It was good to see Penny get back on the field, as he's been beaten up consistently throughout his career. The former first-rounder could see his role increase in this backfield alongside Collins until Chris Carson (neck) returns from Injured Reserve, but for now, he's only a deep-league stash.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith had one big play in Week 7, but he couldn't do much else in the team's loss to the New Orleans Saints. Smith went 12 of 22 for 167 yards and a touchdown in the loss on Monday night. He also added three carries for 12 yards on the night. Between the weather and his offensive line struggling in front of him, Smith was never able to get into a rhythm, and both offenses were struggling all night long. This offense is going to be severely limited until quarterback Russell Wilson (finger) is back under center, and Smith has been unable to produce positive fantasy outings through his two starts.
Seattle Seahawks running back Alex Collins was unable to replicate his play from a week ago, and he struggled all game long in the Week 7 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. Collins finished the game with 16 carries for 35 yards while catching one pass for nine yards on one target. The running game was a slog all night for both teams, and the Seahawks two primary running backs, Collins and Rashaad Penny, had a combined 22 carries for 44 yards. As long as Chris Carson (neck) is out with an injury, Collins will likely be the primary running back, but it appears that Penny may have a claim to some of the other touches now that he's back from Injured Reserve.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett had a terrible fantasy outing in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. Lockett caught two of his three targets for 12 yards on the night, with his lone incompletion coming on his deepest target down the field. In two games without quarterback Russell Wilson (finger) under center, Lockett has just 47 total yards on four catches and 10 targets. After being a near-lock for fantasy lineups earlier in the year, it's become clear that he will be a crapshoot for as long as Geno Smith remains the starter under center.
Seattle Seahawks wideout D.K. Metcalf caught just two balls in Week 7, but he made them count in the loss against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. Metcalf caught two of his five targets for 96 yards and a touchdown. His first catch of the game came on an 84-yard touchdown down the sideline that saw him outrun the Saints defense. Metcalf's five targets were second on the team, but he was often the player quarterback Geno Smith was throwing to when nothing else was open. Metcalf remains extra volatile as long as Smith is under center, but you're likely still starting him due to his big-play ability.
Tennessee Titans kicker Randy Bullock converted both his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 27-3 win over Kansas City Chiefs. He made both of his attempts from 24 and 51 yards out. The 31-year-old has now converted 13-of-15 goal attempts, including one from 50-plus yards, and is 17-of-18 in extra-point tries. Bullock has tallied at least nine fantasy points in three of his last four games and can be used as a streamer against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8.
Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Rick Bisaccia tight end Darren Waller (ankle) is day-to-day and will remain in Las Vegas for further treatment on his ankle during the bye in Week 8. The Raiders star tight end was a late addition to Saturday's injury report with an ankle issue and was ultimately ruled out in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He will have the bye week to rest his injured ankle and will look to return Week 9 against the New York Giants. The 29-year-old has hauled in 33 receptions for 378 yards and two touchdowns over six games in 2021. Foster Moreau will be the Raiders' primary tight end if Waller cannot suit up in Week 9.
Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry has rushed 74 times for 394 yards (5.3 yards per rush) and three touchdowns in the last three games against the Indianapolis Colts.
Fantasy Spin: He has rushed for over 100 yards against them in four straight games. He's the top back in fantasy right now, and he looks to be headed for another banner week in Week 8.
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said quarterback Trey Lance is "on pace" to practice Wednesday. According to Shanahan, Lance will likely be limited if he does practice this week. The No.3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft will back up Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears. Lance has been dealing with an MCL sprain in his left knee and has been sidelined since Week 5. The 21-year-old is considered day-to-day. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Lance as a high-upside stash in all league formats.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said running back Miles Sanders (ankle) is "week-to-week" with a low-end ankle sprain. The 24-year-old sustained the injury in a Week 7 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. He was carted off the field and did not return in Sunday's loss. Despite being listed as week-to-week, the Eagles have yet to rule him out for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. Fantasy managers should monitor the Eagles' injury report throughout the week. Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott will lead the Eagles backfield if Sanders cannot suit up in Week 8. Stay tuned.
New England Patriots TE Jonnu Smith (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury in Week 7 against the New York Jets.
Fantasy Spin: Smith had his best game, statistically, but he is not even the No. 1 tight end on his team. He remains more of a low-end TE2 in most fantasy leagues. The Patriots travel to meet the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8.
New Orleans Saints WR Tre'Quan Smith posted just one grab for 11 yards on three targets in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Fantasy Spin: Smith was making his regular-season debut after spending time on the Reserve/Injured list to start due to a hamstring injury. He was actually the season-best among the wideouts in terms of production, but that's not saying much. Smith obviously needs to do more before fantasy managers can trust him outside of the deepest leagues.
New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara rushed 20 times for just 51 yards in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks, but he had 10 grabs for a game-high 128 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets.
Fantasy Spin: The yardage total on the ground was his lowest since Week 2 in Carolina, but he has scored a total of four touchdowns in the past four games, and the receiving yardage was his most since Sept. 27, 2020 when he had 139 yards against the Green Bay Packers.
New Orleans Saints S Malcolm Jenkins rolled up six total stops, three solo tackles, a sack, a tackles for loss and a quarterback hit in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks.
New Orleans Saints QB Jameis Winston completed 19-of-35 passes for 22 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks while running for 40 yards.
Fantasy Spin: Winston had a pretty decent stat line considering the ugly, rainy conditions at Lumen Field. He remains a QB2 in most every fantasy league heading into Week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his former team.
Seattle Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner went for a team-high seven stops with five solo tackles in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.
