Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Russell Gage enjoyed a solid game in his return to the field in a Week 7 win over Miami. Gage caught four passes for a season-high 67 yards, hauling in his first touchdown catch of the season on a long, 49-yard reception. The 25-year-old seems to be past the ankle issue that sidelined him for about a month- and he could be poised to deliver on the preseason hype surrounding him with the Falcons offense humming. Gage could be on the flex radar in Week 8 against a reeling Panthers team.
Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts caught seven of eight passes for a career-best 163 yards in Sunday's 30-28 win over Miami. Coming off of the best game of his young career in a win over the Jets in London, Pitts' second act was perhaps even better, as he repeatedly burnt the Dolphins secondary downfield time and time again, averaging an impressive 23.3 yards per reception. The budding star has now caught at least seven passes while exceeding the century mark in each of his last two games played. Pitts is building strong chemistry with quarterback Matt Ryan- which bodes well for his fantasy value in a tough matchup next week against Carolina.
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley caught four passes for 26 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Ridley saw double-digit targets for the fourth time this year but didn't appear to be on the same page as quarterback Matt Ryan- though the two did connect for a touchdown. After averaging a career-best 15.3 yards per reception last year, the star wideout is now averaging less than a first down per catch, an alarming drop-off. Ridley should still be considered among the league's best wideouts- and is seeing the elite-level volume to turn things around. Perhaps a Week 8 matchup with the Panthers, who allowed 178 yards and 11 catches to Ridley last year, can help him turn things around.
The Carolina Panthers are expected to be involved in trade talk for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson before the November deadline, according to league and team sources. Panthers starter Sam Darnold was benched in favor of P.J. Walker in the fourth quarter of the Week 7 loss to the New York Giants after he went 16-for-25 for 111 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Darnold got off to a good start in his first year in Carolina, but he's looked more like the QB he was with the New York Jets in recent weeks. With Watson available despite his ongoing legal issues, the Panthers are rethinking their Darnold investment. Watson is not on the commissioner's exempt list, but it remains to be seen if he'll be allowed to play in 2021 if he's traded by the Texans.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (head, neck) said he feels fine after taking a nasty hit and being helped off the field late in the fourth quarter of the team's Week 7 blowout loss to the Tennessee Titans. Mahomes looked woozy and got up slow after being sacked. He went to the medical tent and reportedly cleared the concussion protocol, but he never returned to the field with the game already decided. The 26-year-old had one of the worst games of his career in the 27-3 loss, going just 20-for-35 for 206 yards with no touchdowns, one interception and a lost fumble. He added six carries for 35 yards. As long as he checks out fine next week, Mahomes will remain a must-start QB1 in a great bounce-back opportunity against the New York Giants.
Atlanta Falcons running back Mike Davis had a disappointing day in Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Davis saw season-lows in both rushing attempts, four, and yards, 10- while taking a complete backseat to fellow runner Cordarrelle Patterson, who handled 16 touches. The 28-year-old at least had steady volume to fall back on in the past several weeks, though he seems to be trending towards touchdown-or-bust territory. Davis will be on shaky fantasy ground for a Week 8 divisional matchup with Carolina.
New York Jets rookie first-round quarterback Zach Wilson (knee) will have an MRI exam on his knee on Monday, but sources are saying that the initial belief is that he suffered an injury to his PCL. Wilson will likely miss some time, but we won't have a specific timetable until his MRI results come back. The 22-year-old was just 6-for-10 for 51 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions before leaving the game with the injury. Backup Mike White went 20-for-32 for 202 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in relief in the Week 7 blowout loss to the New England Patriots. Fantasy managers should only consider adding White if they're desperate at the QB position in superflex leagues.
Atlanta Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson carried the ball 14 times for 60 rushing yards and a touchdown, adding two catches for just one receiving yard in Sunday's 30-28 win over Miami. After three straight 100-scrimmage yard games, Patterson faltered a bit with just 61 yards, though he managed to salvage his day with the score. Perhaps more importantly, he seized control of Atlanta's backfield, handling 16 touches to Mike Davis' four. Patterson is a strong RB2 for a Week 8 tilt with Carolina- currently ranking 18th in rush DVOA.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders (ankle) was carted off the field and taken to the locker room after suffering an ankle injury in the first quarter of the Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He's officially questionable to return. Sanders had six carries for 30 yards and caught his only target for minus-three yards before leaving the game with what could be a serious ankle injury. Rookie Kenneth Gainwell, who has been backing up Sanders all year, caught a 13-yard touchdown pass for the game's first score. The rookie would become an immediate priority waiver-wire addition heading into Week 8 if Sanders' injury is serious enough to cause him to miss any time. With the Eagles often abandoning their running game early on, Sanders has been a huge fantasy disappointment up to this point in the season. Boston Scott should see an expanded role for the rest of the game if Sanders doesn't return.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan completed 25 of 40 passes for 336 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Ryan's recent success continued against Miami, as he averaged a season-high 8.4 yards per attempt while recording his fifth straight multi-touchdown effort. The veteran signal-caller still offers next-to-nothing with his legs but remains a strong pocket passer in year 14. Ryan will be a solid streaming option once again in Week 8 against a struggling Panthers team.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Byron Pringle caught five balls and was the team leader with 73 yards in an ugly loss versus the Tennessee Titans in Week 7. Pringle got some rave reviews during training camp and has gone over 50 receiving yards in three games, but has gone for 23 yards or less in his other four games. Aside from competing with wide receiver Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce, Pringle has wide receivers Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson and Josh Gordon to compete with for snaps. Barring an injury, Pringle can remain on waivers for now.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Josh Gordon only saw one target in an ugly Week 7 loss against the Tennessee Titans and finished with zero receptions on day. Gordon had been expected to see more playing time as the weeks have gone on, but he is still struggling to find playing time and is doing little to nothing when he has been seeing snaps. Gordon has now suited up in four games for the Chiefs this season and has just one reception for 11 yards on two targets for the season. With many mouths to feed in the Chiefs offense, managers can feel safe about swapping Gordon out for a player with better potential on the waiver wire.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darrel Williams had a quiet afternoon in a Week 7 loss versus the Tennessee Titans. Williams only got five carries during the contest and picked up 20 yards. He also caught three balls for 30 yards. The Chiefs offense got obliterated and that would lead to Williams seeing a low amount of action in the backfield. Williams is due to get at least one more start in Week 8, but running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (knee) will be eligible to return in Week 9. Heading into Week 8, Williams should be considered a RB2 versus the New York Giants.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill caught six of his nine targets for 49 yards and rushed one time for 18 yards in a blowout loss versus the Tennessee Titans in Week 7. Dealing with a quad injury that kept him sidelined from practice this week, Hill was able to suit up and make it through Week 7 healthy. The Cheetah was able to help managers in ppr leagues with his six receptions, but the 49 yards was below his expectation this week. Hill has had some huge games this season, but he has also had some underwhelming games this year. Despite that, he still remains one of the best at his position and managers should continue to trust him as a WR1 moving forward. Hill will look for better results against the New York Giants in Week 8.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise ugly loss versus the Tennessee Titans in Week 7. Seeing 12 targets on the afternoon, Kelce was able to haul in seven balls for 65 yards. It wasn't his best performance of the season, but it was a serviceable one for managers. The Chiefs were getting crushed for most of the afternoon, but Kelce played the entire game. Although Kelce isn't having the dominant season that most are accustomed to, he has still been putting together another good season and remains at the top of his class for his position. Heading into Week 8 versus the New York Giants, Kelce will remain one of the top tight end plays for the week.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes(head) took a hard hit to the head/neck area late in Sunday's game against the Titans and had to be helped off of the field. Mahomes was later seen walking around on the sidelines, so the injury might not be as bad as it looks, but Chad Henne will likely finish the game, as KC is down big. Mahomes continues to have some uncharacteristic struggles this season, as he was 20-for-35 for 206 yards, no touchdowns, and one pick before exiting on Sunday.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold has been benched in the second half of the team's Week 7 contest against the Giants. He was 16-for-25 for 111 yards and an interception. At one point this year, Darnold led the NFL in rushing touchdowns, but his early success has vanished, as he's thrown seven picks in the last four games. P.J. Walker has entered the game to replace Darnold. The XFL star earned the No. 2 role over Will Grier in the preseason, and he could wind up being the starting quarterback going forward. Keep an eye on how this situation develops.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Peyton Barber is a healthy scratch once again, making this the third week in a row that Barber won't be in the lineup. He's clearly only on this roster to be an emergency play if either Josh Jacobs or Kenyan Drake are injured. The Raiders will also be without tight end Darren Waller (ankle), who has been the focal point of this offense. Without him, Drake could see some more usage in the short passing game, booting his value a bit and making him a decent deep-league play.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end O.J. Howard (ankle) is active for Sunday's meeting with the Chicago Bears. With Rob Gronkowski (lung/ribs) out, Howard should see an uptick in usage this week. He's coming off a strong showing, with six catches for 49 yards and a touchdown last week. Fantasy managers looking for a late window replacement for Darren Waller at tight end should head to the waiver wire to see if Howard is still available.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard (ankle) is officially active for the Week 7 game.
Fantasy Spin: Howard has played well while Rob Gronkowski has been out of the lineup and should see a handful of targets this week. He can be a low-end No. 1 tight end in fantasy leagues.
