    On the Calvin Johnson Fumble

Directly from the official NFL published "Guide for Statisticians":

"Own recovery" designates a fumble recovered by any member of the team committing the fumble. "Opponent's recovery" designates a fumble recovered by any member of the team not committing the fumble. Note that there must be "recovery" for every fumble charged except for fumbles that go out of bounds. "Fumbles lost" refers to all fumbles which result in opponents' recoveries, or which are fumbled through the end zone for touchbacks.

So in the case of Calvin Johnson Monday night, it counts as a forced fumble by Cam Chancellor, a fumble and a fumble lost by Calvin Johnson, and a fumble recovery by Seattle Defense, but no individual fumble recovery.

Julian Edelman Kickoff Fumble Return Touchdown

The Julian Edelman fumble return touchdown on the Patriots kickoff to the Jets is scored as a "defensive special teams fumble return touchdown". In your league this will be a defensive special teams touchdown. Check your league rules to see if those touchdowns are awarded to individual players or to special teams only.

If your commissioner has not awarded defensive special teams touchdown points specifically to wide receivers, Edelman will not get credit for the touchdown in your league. If you believe this is an oversight contact your league commissioner.

In RealTime Fantasy Sports money leagues, defensive special teams touchdowns are awarded to special teams only. In this case only the Patriots special teams will receive credit for the touchdown, but not Edelman as an individual.

    WEEK 2: Bears at Packers

In Thursday night's game between the Packers and Bears, Tim Masthay of the Packers completed a touchdown pass to Tom Crabtree on a fake field goal attempt. This is considered an offensive special teams passing touchdown so, if you want to credit the Packers special teams unit with a passing touchdown in your league, be sure to have the special teams unit included in your passing rules for touchdown passes (and, if necessary, length of touchdown passes.)

    September 9, 2012

    For Leagues Using Head Coaches:

Aaron Kromer is the acting head coach for the Saints, as such he will receive head coaching points as soon as statistics are available.

Our policy going forward will be to award the same points to Joe Vitt and Sean Payton after the fact. This should help leagues fulfill the spirit of having a team's head coach without the transaction turmoil this season brings to the head coaching position of the Saints. If your league disagrees with this policy, your commissioner may adjust your leagues scores manually.

For the Tennesse Titans kickoff return touchdown by Tommie Campbell and Marc Mariani that covered 100 yards, NFL statistics scoring rules say 84 return yards were to be awarded to Campbell after the lateral and 16 return yards to Marianin before the lateral. Since Mariani received the kick and gained at least 9 yards, he is awarded the official return. Campbell is credited with no returns, but 84 return yards and a touchdown.

Previously the Titans special teams were given credit for the 84 yards touchdown, however since the Titans as a unit covered the full 100 yards of the return, the stats have been updated to award the Titans special teams a 100 yard return. Stats for Campbell and Mariani remain unchanged.

Thursday night game this week, Chicago at San Francisco !

Please plan accordingly with your adds, drops and lineup changes.

Attention Leagues using the Waiver Wire: We will process waivers all week, even after the scheduled start of the Thursday night game if your league has those waivers scheduled. For Thursday, Friday and Saturday waivers please be aware of the following:

    • All-American, All-Pro, All-Star, and High Stakes money leagues are not affected. Waivers will remain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
    • Your team's Thursday starters cannot be dropped via the waiver wire after scheduled kickoff of the Thursday game.
    • If your league does not allow players to be picked up after scheduled kickoff of their game, the waiver wire will honor that rule for Thursday players.
    • Players acquired via waivers are never automatically promoted to starters. Thursday players acquired before or after scheduled kickoff will not be automatically started. Start/bench is strictly an owner decision.
    • Waivers are usually processed within an hour after the waiver deadline. However, our official policy is that waivers will be processed within 6 hours after the deadline.
    • Your league commissioner may change your waiver deadlines and days at anytime. Please contact your commissioner with any questions.

We STRONGLY recommend against setting your league's waiver deadline close to the scheduled 8:20pm ET kickoff of the Thursday night game as it leaves team owners very little if any time to make start/bench decisions.

The Elias Sports Bureau took away a Browns sack and gave Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger a pass reception from Pittsburgh's 10-6 win Sunday night.

The sack was originally credited to the Browns' Shaun Smith. The play was ruled a sack for a 7-yard loss. After reviewing the videotape, Elias changed the play to a successful pass for Roethlisberger because the ball came out of his hand, struck a teammate in the back and rebounded to the quarterback, who was tackled by Smith.

The ruling takes away one of the Browns' three sacks and changes Roethlisberger's passing statistics from 12-of-19 to 13-of-20 for 179 yards. It also lowers his NFL-leading passer rating from 136.3 to 133.9.

    September 14, 2008
Here is the ruling on the Seattle Defensive TD: Seattle recovered the ball on the San Fransisco 18, fumbled it, recovered the ball again and scored the touchdown. Thanks for your patience while our stats provider finally sorted out the details.

    • Fieldgoal by Shaun Shisham of WAS is changed to 50 yds from 49 yds.
    • A throw from Ben Roethlisberger to Hines Ward was changed to a backwards pass, thus a lateral and rush not a pass. Accordingly:
      • Roethlisberger is awarded 15 completions in 32 attempts for 142 passing yds.
      • Hines Ward is awarded 3 receptions for 27 yds receiving and 1 rush for 4 yds rushing.
    December 11, 2007
    Statistical Changes and Rulings:
    • In the Week 14 Oakland at Green Bay game, Green Bay punted to Oakland. Oakland's Tim Dwight caught the punt and then fumbled. The ball ended up in the endzone where Green Bay's Will Blackmon recovered for a touchdown. Since it was a special teams play and possession had changed from Green Bay to Oakland, the play is a DEFENSIVE SPECIAL TEAMS touchdown for Green Bay.
    • In the Week 14 Arizona at Seattle game, Seattle tackled Arizona punter Josh Scobey in the endzone for a safety. Since possesion had not changed the play is a DEFENSIVE SPECIAL TEAMS safety for Seattle.
    • In the Week 14 Minnesota at San Francisco game, an apparent interception of Shaun Hill by Pat Williams has now been ruled a Hill fumble and Pat Willaims fumble recovery by Elias Sports Bureau. Accordingly:
      • Shaun Hill will now be credited with 2 fumbles, 27 pass attempts, and 0 interceptions.

    October 29, 2007
In the Week 8 game between the Texans and the Chargers, Antonio Cromartie's fumble recovery TD is ruled a DEFENSIVE SPECIAL TEAMS touchdown. Since Houston's punt team was on the field it is a special teams play. Cromartie recovered in the endzone for the touchdown. A few sites are displaying it as a blocked punt touchdown. However, there was no punt, it was a bad snap and thus a fumble.
    October 23, 2007
SCORING CHANGE: The San Francisco blocked punt against the New York Giants has been changed to a DEFENSIVE SPECIAL TEAMS safety. This means your "Defensive Special Teams Safety" scoring rule applies.

If you have the Giants Defense in a league with separate defense and special teams and points allowed are not counted when the defense is not on the field, the Giants defense will only be charged with 13 points allowed.

If you have the Giants Defense/Special Teams in a league with combined defense and special teams, the Giants defense/special teams will be charged with 15 points allowed.
    October 22, 2007
SCORING CLARIFICATION: The Minnesota fumble return touchdown against Dallas will be scored as follows. The play was a pass from Tony Romo to Patrick Crayton. Crayton caught the ball but then fumbled. Ben Leber of the Vikings recovered at the Minnesota 40 yard line. Leber return the ball to the 50 yard line and lateralled to Cedric Griffin of the Vikings. Griffin returned the ball to the Dallas 41 yard line and fumbled. Griffin recovered his own fumble at the Dallas 28 yard line and return the ball for a touchdown. Since the ball did not change possession on Griffin's fumble, the play will be scored the same as a running back or other player recovering their own fumble for additional positive yards. So the statistical awards are:
    • Patrick Crayton - 1 fumble lost
    • Ben Leber - 1 fumble recovery
    • Cedric Griffin - 50 yard fumble return TD
    • Minnesota Vikings Defense - 60 yard fumble return TD

The Chicago Bears 108-yard missed field goal TD return has been interpreted as an offensive special teams touchdown. This intepretation stems from the fact that during a field goal the kicking team is on offense until the ball passes the line of scrimmage. At that point the kicking team becomes the defensive unit (and hence cannot recover or advance the kick unless the opposing team touches it first.) If your league does not agree with this decision the commissioner may always manually adjust any teams score at any time.

In essence, this is the same as a kickoff return TD, with the points awarded based on your rules for a kick return TD and subsequent length.
    November 7, 2006

In essence, this is the same as a kickoff return TD, with the points awarded based on your rules for a kick return TD and subsequent length.

ATTENTION: Our stats provider incorrectly recorded the last play of the Green Bay / Cincinnati game -- an invalid pass from Brett Favre to Bubba Franks -- and credited both Favre and Franks for the completion/reception. As a result, the following stats have been changed:
    • Favre's passing stats were revised from 27-40, 290 yards, 5 INTs to 26-39, 279 yards, 5 INTs.
    • Frank's receiving stats were revised from 8 receptions, 73 yards to 7 receptions, 62 yards.

The NFL has announced the Kansas City at Miami game has been moved from Sunday afternoon to Friday night at 7:00pm eastern.

    Impacts to you:

    • Starting Lineups: Your starting lineup deadlines will not change automatically. However, players always lock and cannot be started or benched after their game starts. This means you must start or bench Kansas City and Miami players before kickoff.
    • Free Agent Transactions: Your free agent deadlines will not change automatically. However, your commissioner can change your deadlines for this week if you like. Check your league rules to see if you can add or drop players after their game starts.
    • Waiver Wire: If your waiver wire was scheduled to run on Friday or Saturday of this week, it will not run. We never allow waiver wires to run after games for the week start because it would allow for an unfair advantage (you could drop players with negative points or pick up the backups for players injured in the game). Since it takes time to award players and allow owners to change starters, we require that waiver wires must be scheduled to award players before midnight the night before the first game of the week. If you would like your waiver wire to run this week, re-schedule it to run Thursday evening (don't everyone wait until 11:59pm !) and PLEASE let everyone in your league know.
    • King of the Mountain: If you want to pick Miami or Kansas City in the King of the Mountain this week, you must pick them before kickoff. You may pick any other teams up until the usual 1:00pm eastern Sunday deadline.

The NFL has officially changed Kerry Collins' week 1 interception to a fumble recovery by Vince Wilfork. If you have Collins, Wilfork or the Patriots defense your week 1 scores may change.

Even though the Monday Giants v. Saints game is in the Meadowlands, the Saints are still considered the home team this week.
