Homies,
The game of the week between Tim and Morgan was anything but that as the Sharpshooters massacred the mob 129-70. After a 6-0 start, Morgan has lost two straight and is looking exceptionally vulnerable after over half his team (Dak, Jake Ferguson, Darnell Mooney, Bijan, Rhamondre) combined for a TOTAL of just 7 points. It’s surprising Morgan remained on the island after Bijan Robinson rushed for just 25 yards, with a fumble. How many times do I have to tell everyone not to start any RB facing the Dominating Dolphins Defense?
Yes, the Sharpshooters took out Morgan, but their best shot of the week may have been his sniper shot on Buzz. Tim traded Keenan Allen (4) and Javonte Williams (16) to Buzz this week, and in return got Saquon Barkley (season high 37) and Ladd McConkey (14—2nd highest score of his season)). The 51 points Tim got from his new players gave him a dominating win. And if Buzz had not done the trade and had started Fannin at TE, he would have won this week instead of getting his scored doubled 114-57. You know Buzz was sitting there Sunday sobbing as he cheered on Saquon Sunday, as his homey had his best game of the year with Tim instead of Buzz. You cannot fairly evaluate a trade after just one week, but the optics on this one look poor for Buzz so far. For trading his homey, and having his homey do him like that, Buzz has been shamed off the island.
Hokies, WFT, Gods, Dolphins, Eagles are all off the island.
With his Bills Mafia (Josh Allen and James Cook) scoring 64 points, Warren collected a 130-115 win over Emilio. This moved Warren into a tie with Morgan at 6-2 on top of the league, and Hula Hoop now leads the league in scoring. Though interestingly enough, he has yet to collect a high score of the week.
After a 0-3 start, Steve was pounding the brews. But since then, he has gone 5-0, including this week’s 102-78 win over Bad News, moving the Panthers from last to one game out of first.
We need to have a rule where if you score less than x (maybe 85?) points you don’t get credit for a win. With the highest scoring loser being granted a W. Just to avoid the sad game Shaun and Allen had this weekend. With both teams burdened with byes and injuries, they both had a 100% MER as WTF defeated the Dolphins 72-66. 72 is the lowest score anyone has won with this season.
Nobody deserves a win in a game where their combined scores were just 138 points like Shaun and Allen. Especially when someone like Matt puts up 139 points by himself and loses, like he did against the Hokies (final: 152-139). Mark picked up the high score of the week (you don’t see that very often from the last place team), and Matt was left in agony as his first-round draft pick, Bucky Irving, remained out injured with a bum foot. There was no merit to playing Croskey-Merritt (2 points) instead of Bucky (18/game before the injury). Bucky could have had a below average game and still carried Matt to the win and the highest score of the week.
Matt’s disappointing first round pick cost him the game. How have others done with their first and second round draft picks this season, you ask? Following is the requested analysis, based upon value someone has gotten from where they picked in the draft:
Top 3 First Round Picks
The Worst Three First Round Picks
Top 3 Second Round Picks
Worst Three Second Round Picks
115/game: Average points scored by the six owners with a top 3 pick in the first or second round.
102/game: Average points scored by the five owners with a bottom 3 pick in the first or second round.
98/game: Average points scored by Buzz, the only owner with a bottom 3 pick in the first AND second rounds.
You could put together an all-star team with the players no one picked in the first two rounds, so success can be had when missing on the top two picks. But every year there is a correlation between teams’ success in the first two rounds and their performance, and this year is no exception.
Hoos and Bijan, both with a top 3 pick in the second round, are at the top of the standings at 6-2. Tim and Steve, both with a top 3 pick in the first round, trail by a game at 5-3. Woody, Matt, Shaun, and Jon are all tied for the 5th playoff spot at 4-4. Allen and Emilio are one game down from a playoff spot at 3-5. Buzz and Mark are at the bottom of the standings with 2-6 records. Or two games out of a playoff spot with 6 weeks to go in the regular season. If either wins-out, they will likely have a playoff spot.
The game of the week is the match-up we have all been waiting for, our top two teams, Hula Hoop and Bijan. The winner will be alone atop the league with a tie-breaker advantage over the other. Not to be overlooked, the #3 and 4 teams, Tim and Steve, play each other as well. The winner will be tied for 2nd place, and the loser could fall as far as 5th place. Good luck this week to everyone but Buzz. He drafts my RB, Saquon, ahead of me, then gives up on him and trades him away, getting booted off the island. He deserves more of what he just got this week!
