The Carolina Panthers have requested permission to interview Jacksonville Jaguars passing-game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter for their offensive coordinator opening, according to a source. The Panthers have also added Detroit Lions assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley to their staff, and although his title is not known, he clearly wasn't hired as the offensive coordinator. The last two years, Cooter has worked with coaches who are connected to Panthers head coach Frank Reich. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson and Reich coached together with the Philadelphia Eagles and won Super Bowl LI. Cooter worked as a consultant for the Eagles under Nick Sirianni in 2021. He has experience calling plays for the Detroit Lions from 2016-18.

Detroit Lions assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley is leaving to join the Carolina Panthers and head coach Frank Reich's coaching staff, according to sources. The title and nature of Staley's role in Carolina is unknown at this time. Staley and Reich have history working together, as Staley served as the running backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles during Reich's two years as the offensive coordinator. Staley spent 10 seasons with the Eagles as a coach and also played seven years for the organization as an RB. It's likely that Staley will be involved with RBs again in Carolina, which is great news for both D'Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard. Meanwhile, back in Detroit, it's a big loss for the position.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that head coach Mike McCarthy will call the offensive plays in 2023, and a version of the offenses he ran with the Green Bay Packers will be coming to Dallas. It will be the first time the Cowboys' head coach has also called offensive plays since Jason Garrett did so in 2012. It will also be quarterback Dak Prescott's first scheme chance in his career with the team. Dallas agreed to part ways with previous offensive coordinator Kellen Moore after the season, and executive vice president Stephen Jones hinted at differences in opinion between Moore and McCarthy. Dallas has interviewed Jeff Nixon and Thomas Brown for their coordinator vacancy, but it's been established that McCarthy will be running the offense in 2023.

As of Wednesday, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (elbow) was still considering his options, although general manager John Lynch said all the experts seem to be suggesting a surgery to fix his torn UCL that will require a six-month rehab. If that's the case, head coach Kyle Shanahan said he's content with Purdy and Trey Lance being the top quarterbacks heading into training camp. It's why both Lynch and Shanahan said they don't foresee a scenario where they re-sign impending QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Purdy will likely have surgery on his right elbow, and there's no guarantee that he'll be ready to rock for the start of spring training. Lance is also coming off two serious injuries suffered early in the 2022 season, but he should be fully ready by the summer, making him the most likely starter under center for the Niners to open 2023.

Both Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones were adamant that they want running back Ezekiel Elliott back in 2023, but Stephen Jones reiterated it "has to work financially" for both sides. Elliott said recently that he'd be willing to take a pay cut to stay in Dallas. He has a dead salary cap hit of $12 million, so there's a chance the Cowboys cut him this offseason if they can't work something out. Tony Pollard, who has been much more explosive than Elliott the last two years, is a free agent, but the Cowboys want to re-sign him. The 27-year-old Elliott had a career-low 3.8 yard-per-carry average in 2022, gaining 876 yards and 12 touchdowns on 231 carries. If he stays in Dallas and Pollard returns, he'll continue to see his role decrease as more of a short-yardage, goal-line back.

Hayden Hurst signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Bengals this past offseason. He is set to be a free agent in 2023. The 29-year-old made a decent impact for the Bengals this season, catching 54 passes for 414 yards and two touchdowns over 13 games. Cincinnati has $44 million in cap space but is expected to sign star quarterback Joe Burrow to an extension, making him of the highest-paid players in league history. According to Paul Dehere of The Athletic, the Bengals would like to bring Hurst back in 2023, especially with backup Drew Sample becoming a free agent this offseason. Hurst will be a steady contributor and a mid-range TE2 if he returns to Cincinnati in 2023.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) was listed as a full participant on Wednesday's practice estimate. Mahomes initially suffered a high right ankle sprain in the divisional round win over the Jaguars. The 27-year-old played through the ankle injury in the AFC Championship win over the Bengals. He appeared hobble at times but threw for 326 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in last Sunday's playoff win over Cincinnati. The superstar quarterback could be without some of his targets as JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Kadarius Toney (ankle/hamstring), and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) all missed Wednesday's practice. Mahomes should be all systems go in the Super Bowl against the Eagles, as the star quarterback will look to lead the Chiefs to their third championship win in franchise history.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) was listed as a non-participant for Wednesday's practice. Mecole Hardman (pelvis) and Kadarius Toney (ankle, hamstring) also didn't practice Wednesday. Smith-Schuster caught his only target for seven yards before exiting the AFC Championship game over the Bengals with a knee injury. The 26-year-old will have five more chances to practice to have a chance of suiting up in the Super Bowl against the Eagles. The former second-round pick has been limited to three catches for 36 yards over the team's last two playoff games. Smith-Schuster will have 11 days to recover from his knee issue but is expected to be available for the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle, hamstring) was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report. Mecole Hardman (pelvis) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) also didn't practice Wednesday. Toney exited the AFC Championship game against the Bengals in the first half with a leg injury and didn't return. The 24-year-old logged four snaps, catching one of two targets for nine yards before leaving. Toney will have another week and a half to recover and have five more chances to practice to have a shot of suiting up in the Super Bowl against the Eagles.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman (pelvis) was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report. Kadarius Toney (ankle, hamstring) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) also didn't practice Wednesday. Hardman returned to action for the AFC Championship game after being sidelined since Week 9 due to an injured pelvis. The 24-year-old caught two of three targets for 10 yards while rushing for seven yards on two attempts in last week's playoff win over the Bengals. Hardman will have five more chances to practice but is expected to be available for the Super Bowl against the Eagles next Sunday.

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Rams) will continue to receive interest from the Dallas Cowboys in free agency, according to owner/general manager Jerry Jones.
Fantasy Spin: The Cowboys are looking for a receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb, and Beckham was playing well before his major knee injury. Fantasy players should monitor the situation because Beckham could be a No. 3 fantasy receiver if he joins the Cowboys.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is a player that owner/general manager Jerry Jones wants to keep on the roster next season.
Fantasy Spin: Elliott may need to agree to a restructured contract to return, but it seems like the front offense wants him back next season. He will be part of a committee if the Cowboys re-sign Pollard, but Elliott could still be a No. 2 or No. 3 back in fantasy leagues.

Dallas Cowboys LB Luke Gifford (core), S Malik Hooker (thumb) and OT Tyron Smith (knee) recently underwent surgeries.

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen stated on Wednesday that the organization has had initial talks with running back Saquon Barkley and hopes to "move closer" in negotiations next week. Barkley, who is an unrestricted free agent, was named a finalist for the AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award after posting a career-high in rushing yards and 10 touchdowns this season. The 25-year-old has said he would like to stay in New York, and the team could reportedly opt to use the franchise tag to retain him if the two sides do not agree on a multi-year contract.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is the team's long-term quarterback and is a candidate for a contract extension his offseason, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.
Fantasy Spin: Prescott was limited to 12 games this season and finished with 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions during that span. He should be able to improve on his numbers next season if he can stay healthy and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some leagues.
From TheHuddle
The Indianapolis Colts will be conducting a second interview with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for the team's vacant head coaching position. He joins a group of other candidates considered finalists for the job that includes Jeff Saturday, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. Glenn, who has coached in the NFL since 2014, is also a top candidate for the Arizona Cardinals as he has completed two interviews for their head coaching job.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (ankle, knee) underwent arthroscopic surgeries on his right ankle and right knee Tuesday, Jan. 31, according to sources.
Fantasy Spin: Gallup is coming off a disappointing 2022 season and finished with 424 yards and four touchdowns. He should still have a role in the passing game next season but may not be an opinion in fantasy drafts.
From TheHuddle
Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was the subject of many rumors throughout the season and drew interest from multiple teams but ultimately remained unsigned. The Dallas Cowboys were among the teams most interested in Beckham's services, even flying the 29-year-old in for a visit in December, and are not yet closing the door on adding him to the roster. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated on Wednesday that the organization decided Beckham was not ready to play this year, but that they will revisit their negotiations with him at the start of free agency in March. A healthy Beckham would be a welcome addition to the Cowboys' passing attack that, outside of CeeDee Lamb, did not get much production from its wide receiver corps this season.
From RotoBaller
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) signed a one-year contract with the team back in August and will enter unrestricted free agency this offseason. According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, there is no scenario in which Garoppolo returns to San Francisco. Shanahan also mentioned that the 49ers are confident in their ability to win with either Trey Lance (ankle) or Brock Purdy (elbow) under center. The 31-year-old Garoppolo was solid in his time on the field this season and is likely to find a new home as a starter in the coming months with multiple teams in need of a quarterback.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants impending free-agent RB Saquon Barkley had contract talks with the Giants last week and is expected to have more conversations with the team next week, according to general manager Joe Schoen.
Fantasy Spin: It seems like Barkley probably will be with the Giants for at least one more season, but it is not known if the two sides will be able to agree on a multi-year deal. Barkley had a bounce back season in 2022 and should be a No. 1 running back in most fantasy leagues.
