We had a bunch of close, exciting games that came down to the wire this week. As we pass the halfway point on the regular season both of our Division races are tight, and most teams are still in contention in the points standings. More injuries continue to plague top players. And in a weird oddity, the six teams that topped 100 points all played each other. So we had a tale of three high scoring games and three low scoring ones.
WEEK #8 RESULTS:
DUTCHMEN EDGE OUT XTREME: Once again Xtreme suffered a heart-breaking loss, this time by 4.1 points on Monday Night to the Dutchmen. Xmen have the fourth highest point total, yet only have one win to show for it. Dmen had big games from Herbert and Rice, and new acquisition TE Gadsden. Xtreme had another great game from RB Taylor (36.4), but his WR corps let him down in a game where they needed every point.
GENERALS DEFEAT SCHEME TEAM: It was ugly, really ugly, but Gmen walk away with the lowest point total for a winning team this season, and the sixth fewest points in a game overall this year. Luckily Generals played a team that had the second lowest FFF score of the season. Gmen's Aaron Rodgers' 22 points led all starters in this one. Scheme Team only had one starter in double digits.
TOASTER OVEN OUTGUNS ND: Toaster Oven had their best game of the season in a stunning victory over powerhouse ND. Daniel Jones and the Tampa Defense led the Toaster attack, though they missed a huge day by Breece Hall on their bench. ND needed more fire power here, and amazingly their 105-point output was their third worst game of the season, as their three-game win streak comes to an end.
TROYSBOYS COME BACK TO TOP HONEYMOONERS: Travis Kelce led TroysBoys from behind on Monday Night as they fought off Honeymooners for a big win. Barkley led the way for Troy, who had poor games from Dak and their WR's. Injury to QB Wentz hurt Mooners here, as did a bad day from Bijan in what seemed to be a great matchup.
HAMMERHEADS SLIP PAST WHITE CITY DEVILS: It wasn't pretty, but Hammerheads managed to get a victory despite a poor showing. RB Jacobs did just enough on Sunday Night to carry the uninspiring Heads. White City had great games from Dart and Cook, but two starters with zeros did them in. The win keeps Hammer atop 'A' Division.
RAIDERS8 BLASTS BARON'S CORNER: Raiders8 had the second highest game in FFF this season as they exploded in big win over Barons' Corner. All but one Raiders starter was in double digits, led by QB Love and new acquisition RB Chase. Baron's three game win streak comes to an end despite a pretty solid effort here. TE Kraft had a fantastic day, but Baron's RBs failed to produce.
WEEK #9 MATCHUPS:
DUTCHMEN VS. TOASTER OVEN: Toaster Oven relishing the role of spoiler as they have defeated the top two teams in each Division on consecutive weeks, and look to add co-leader Dutchmen to that list now. Both teams have won two in a row. Dmen have some great player matchups, while Toaster is hurt by Bye Week, so this could get ugly. Both teams at opposite ends of point standings.
GENERALS VS. TROYSBOYS: Both teams coming off of low scoring victories and badly need a win to stay in Division title contention. Bye week cripples TBoys, while Gmen hoping to have some injured stars return to play.
SCHEME TEAM VS. BARON'S CORNER: Both teams in heated struggles for their respective Division title and thus a win is imperative here. Scheme Team coming off their worst game of the season, while Baron playing better each week of late. Schemer's hurt by Bye and hoping McCaffrey can recover from his worst game of the year. Baron also affected by Bye and hoping Allen can play well in a tough game.
XTREME VS. RAIDERS8: Hard luck Xtreme have given up over 111 points to every opponent this season but one, so Raiders8 feeling good about their scoring potential coming off of a monster week. Despite differing records, Xtreme sit near the top in points scored while Raiders are last. Based on recent results, this father-son battle should actually be a high scoring contest.
ND VS. WHITE CITY DEVILS: Both teams coming off of painful losses and looking for redemption here. ND has topped 105 points in all but two weeks and need a victory as they slug it out in 'B' Division title chase. Teams are at opposite ends of point standings. Devils face their long-time former QB Mahomes in this one, and he may well be the difference.
HAMMERHEADS VS. HONEYMOONERS: Long time rivals square off in a big 'A' Division battle, with Mooners hoping to catch Hammer. Both Hammerheads losses have been by less than 5 points. Mooners hoping to get their powerful RB trio going, while Hammer looking to get Lamar back in their injury riddled lineup.
