And the Commish with the Reach Around...YES!
2025 Draft Recap by Moss Head Commish
Let’s just get right to the elephant in the room. The Karma Commish’s ways are out. There’s a new sheriff in town. There’ll be no more talk about karma. I’ve read through Karma’s incoherent-babbling, memoirs and frankly I’m not sure how this league survived as long as it did with that moron at the helm. Let’s shovel that last bit of dirt into that hole and forge ahead into modern times. Which brings us to the first bit of business, the over under for the first Day Spa bitch-fest about the draft order was set by the Sharps at 14 minutes 59 and a half seconds. If you took the under, winner, winner, chicken dinner. If you had the over, then obviously you’re as braindead as the last Commish and haven’t been paying attention. Day Spa should change their name to the Termagant Shrews or the Chronic Curmudgeons. End of story.
Moss Head 2025 Prognostications:
Early Round Bust: Amon-Ra St. Brown. Why? Firstly, because he’s coming off a monster year and a likely significant regression is imminent. Secondly, the offensive coordinator that made this offense so exciting last year is gone and replaced by Johnny Morton, who plays the organ, father beats the drum. The sister played the tambourine and the brother went pom, pom, pom, pom. The last time Johnny Morton called plays for an offense was in 2017 when he called plays for the NY Jets. The Jets finished 28th in yards and 24th in points that year. Thirdly, the offensive line lost two of its best linemen (center and guard). The center is being replaced by a 2nd-round rookie who didn’t play one down at center in college and the guard is being replaced by a 2024 6th-rounder who played 75 snaps last season. Jared Goff will be in traction or dead by week 3. Even if Amon-Ra falls to the second round, the price is wrong bitch!
Comeback Player: Jaylen Waddle. Why? Firstly, opposite of Amon-Ra, Waddle is coming off a very disappointing 2023 and 2024 and is more likely to return to a semblance of 2022 form in 2025. Did we all forget how good Waddle was in 2022? He finished 7th in total WR fantasy points, only 72 total points behind Justin Jefferson. Secondly, I think Tyreek Hill has jumped the shark. He’s 31 years old, coming off two off-season wrist surgeries and an abdominal injury recently suffered in August. Sure, maybe Hill shrugs that all off and has a productive year, but there is room in this offense for more targets with Jonnu Smith gone. Jonnu came out of nowhere last year for 90 catches. Even if half of those catches go to Waddle, that sounds like comeback material written all over it. Perhaps we haven’t seen the best of Waddle yet? You never, never, know, but at 7.01 ADP, I’d be willing to find out.
Breakout Player: Ricky Pearsall. Why? Somebody has to catch the ball from Brock Purdy. Deebo is gone. Aiyuk is out for 6 weeks. Jauan Jennings wants to be traded. Demarcus Robinson is suspended. Get the hint here? Pearsall is in line for garbage galore. Oh, and the niners did select him in the first round in 2024, into a crowded WR room, so they must think pretty highly of him. He turned it on late last season and showed excellent rapport with Brock. At an ADP of 7.10, that’s a bargain for a WR that has the potential to finish top 20. Call me crazy.
Draft Day Grades
Toe Cheese – Kam is still waiting for that Ulta Gift Card. Lamar Jackson huh? Going with the 2024 THFFL #1 overall top scorer and hoping for a repeat performance. You can pin your fantasy season hopes on worst things I suppose. For example, Matt Stafford and Aaron Rodgers. Somebody had to do it. Draft A-Rod that is. I’m sure 11 other team owners are glad it wasn’t them. Toe Cheese will be praying to the Karma Fantasy Gods that Lamar stays healthy all season or else it could get pretty ugly. ONY living in the past as Conner, Irving and Jacobs were last year’s diamonds in the ruff. He did draft the Commish’s Break-Out player prognosticator in Ricky Pearsall, so he’s got that going for him, which is nice. But other than that, Jerry Garcia, blah, blah, blah. This team is Yesterday’s Paper. Best pick of the draft: Ricky Pearsall at 117. Overall Draft Grade: C plus.
Number 9 –Nine got the 2nd pick and it was Jayden Daniels here or Josh Allen. We all knew it was gonna be Daniels. You can’t criticize this pick too much. Daniels was a beast last year, going plus 20 points in 10 of the 16 THFFL Fantasy weeks, and twice over 30. He’s a bonafide bonus point berserker. But with all 2nd year players there is the risk of the year two blues, the second years slip, the sophomore slump. But no worries, he’s got Bryce Young and Geno Smith as a security blanket. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Omarion Hampton will contend for rookie of the year and Deebo is a top 10 WR when healthy. I’d be concerned with Travis Kelce. He’s got one foot in retirement mode and two hips in Honeymoon Mode. Yikes. Best pick of the draft: Keenan Allen at 143. Overall grade: B minus
Uncle Rico – First year drafting in the most ridiculous fantasy football league in all of the contiguous 48 states, so I gotta put on some kid-gloves here. But this rookie just raw-dogged the draft. Rico showed up in person, with just a smart phone and an appetite and went to work. Rico got the Josh Allen gift, no-brainer at pick 3, and went Malik Nabers with the reach around. Not too shabby for the rookie. High upside at QB2 with Stroud and gambling on Jaxson Dart in Round 13 could be the special sauce. Looking for a Mr. Unlimited breakdown? Quite possible. Looking at this team holistically it’s not half-bad. Flowers and Puka are a respectable pair to round out Nabers, and the Commanders back-field just got a little less crowded with Robinson out of the mix. Committee heavy dependent in the RB department with Ekeler and D-Mo, but plenty of fantasy points available in both backfields. Add a top 5-ish TE to the mix in LaPorta and Rico will be a difficult out on a weekly basis. Best pick of the draft: Cam Skattebo at 132. Overall grade: B minus
Danger Russ – Maybe this year Russ. Maybe this year. Russ got a good draw this year and scooped up Bijan with the 4th pick. First RB off the board after 3 consecutive QBs. It would have been very easy to go with the consensus pick here and grab Saquon, but Russ went for the higher ceiling pick with Bijan. I like the gamble. Remember, you can’t win if you’re afraid of losing. This might have been Russ’s most complete draft since his inception in the league. Don’t get me wrong, he’s gonna need some breaks, and some rookie breakouts, from Jeanty and Hunter, but if both players come as advertised, it could be an outstanding year for Danger. Blue-chipper at TE in Bowers, and maybe all Trevor Lawrence needs is a change of scenery from the Day Spa doldrums. Is Chris Godwin WR4 on this team? That is scary. I’m worried about Jared Goff surviving the entire season and Daniel Jones keeping the QB job in Indy. But the outlook is promising. Quishon Judkins will not face charges for recent domestic violence charges. Serious question. Is it a pre-requisite for a player to be charged with domestic violence, sexual assault or be a criminal to be considered as a candidate for the Browns roster? Best pick of the draft: J.K. Dobbins at 123. Overall grade: B plus
MoroXcan – Well after Russ broke the QB trend with Bijan, MoroXcan put us back on the QB train with Jalen Hurts at 5. Possibly a little bit of a stretch here, even in a 2 QB league as Hurts didn’t even finish as a top 10 fantasy QB based on 2024 THFFL standards. I think there was better value out there with the 5 pick. But only time will tell. And what does the Moss Head Commish know about fantasy football anyways? Pretty much nothing. And then Dak Prescott with the reach around in round 2? I’ve heard of homer picks, but that was a double-decker stretch. I don’t want to disparage the MoroXcan’s draft performance, after all his name is on the trophy numerous times, but this was an off year. Hall, Jones and Stevenson are a serviceable RB trio, but far from a championship-run trio. The best pass catcher on this roster is George Kittle. I’m having a difficult time picturing Darnold-to-Kupp highlight reels. Three solid kickers though. And the best TE room in the league with Kittles and Hockenson. QB 3 is Russell Wilson. Here's a coupon for the Army/Navy surplus store MoroXcan. I heard there is a sale on parachutes. Best pick of the draft: Najee Harris at 155. Overall grade: C minus
Passing Scooby Doobies – First off love the name. Secondly, it looks like the Scoobs got the memo on the 3 defense, QB bye week substitute phenomenon. Now that’s planning ahead on bye weeks gentlemen. Astral take note of your brother’s preparedness. Now Joe Burrow at 6 was more like it, hint hint MoroXcan. When healthy, in 2022 and 2024, Burrow was a top 5 overall THFFL overall fantasy scorer. I’d take that at pick 6 three ways to Sunday. Unfortunately, the reach around was the Commish’s early round bust Amon-Ra, but a good recovery with Achane atop of Round 3. Drake May is slated as the “next” great white hope in New England, and if there is any improvement from last year, this may be the best one/two QB combo in the THFFL in 2025. Pacheco has breakout honorable mention potential written all over him, and Trey McBride is a ball-hog in Zona. The WR corps is most likely the weakest position here, especially if the bust monicker is an accurate prognostication, and McMillan and Egbuka, gazuntite, are not household names. Pretty good showing for a first go around Scooby. Scrappy would approve. Best pick of the draft: Rachaad White at 156. Overall grade: B minus
TWT –Has TWT taken anything other than a round 1 QB in the entirety of the THFFL draft? Chalk up another QB in 2025, with Mahomes at 7. I’m a little worried about this Chiefs legacy. Are they hanging on to the last bit of crumbs in this pursuit of a dynasty? Mahome’s security blanket is smitten with puppy dog-love and what’s left is scraps with Brown, Rice and Worthy. Not a marquee WR room. Not saying Mahomes will be a bust, just saying the round 1 price tag, might be overpriced. And then CMC in round 2? Talk about overpriced. Jeesh. The ex-Commish’s favorite RB. Hopefully TWT grabbed a handcuff and/or added Dr. Hymen Vagine to the payroll. Survey says? Fallopian fiasco. I’m not sure if the weed is getting stronger or it’s early signs of dementia, but I’m gonna be honest, I’m a little concerned about TWT. Nick Chubb? The only Chubb this roster will be popping is one that is pharmaceutically enhanced by Pfizer. Sam Darnold was 10th in overall THFFL fantasy points in 2024, but that was with Jefferson and Addison. Brock Purdy was 14th with Deebo and Aiyuk. Seeing a pattern here? AJ Brown and Scorin’ McLaurin are pretty good. Best pick of the draft: Terry McLaurin at 72. Overall grade: C minus
Je ne Saquon – What would a THFFL draft be without Day Spa bitching about the draft order and without Je ne drafting Saquon? It would be a travesty at best. There he was at pick 8, the THFFL 2024 overall #1 fantasy points RB, ripe for the plucking, and Saquon plucked away. Then Jefferson appeared in round two. That’s a pretty sexy one-two punch. Last year Je ne put a lot of faith in the rookie class, and in 2025 Je ne is looking for the second-year magic with Caleb and McConkey. Technically it's also McCarthy’s second NFL season but statistically his first. The QBs are boom or bust, with the stability of this team coming at WR with Jefferson, McConkey and Moore. In the conversation for the best WR trio on paper. Would have liked to see a higher upside at RB behind Saquon, but Charbonnet and Croskey are an ovarian cyst away from being every down backs. Tyler Warren is an unknown commodity at TE, but then again so was McBride and Bowers. Best pick of the draft: Jacory Croskey-Merritt at 98. Overall grade: B minus
Astral Cowboys – Did Astral feel a little pressure this year to out-perform his brother Scooby in Scooby’s first THFFL draft? Possibly. The Scoobs faired pretty well in their first draft. Could Astral hold serve? With 6 QBs off the board, Jamyr Gibbs was a solid choice. Gibbs or Henry was the choice here and I like the higher ceiling potential that Gibbs provides, although the lower floor cannot be overlooked. Especially with a two-headed monster approach in Detroit. The proof will be in the pudding as they say. Show me pudding! And then with 2 more QBs coming off the board before the reach around, I had no issue with Kyler Murray in that spot. Much better than I would feel about Dak Prescott. Jordon Love should continue on an upward projection, and Nico Collins is a Tier 1 WR. The RBs are a little thin with PJ “Down by the Water” Harvey and Williams. But Prescott has to hand-off the ball to somebody in Dallas. Why not Javonte Williams? Astral gets stung by the dreaded pre-week 1 kicker cut, with Dustin Hopkins getting the pink-slip, but Astral is wicked smaht, and got the double defense insurance. If a definitive WR2 can emerge from the remaining heap of Shakir, Sutton, Harrison Jr and Diggs, Astral may be in good shape. Best pick of the drat: Jordan Mason at 88. Overall grade: C plus
Grim Reefer – My condolences to Reefer as he was attending a Celebration of Life for a family friend and could not attend the draft. I hope the celebration was uplifting and celebratory. And although, the draft was an insignificant matter with the reality of the situation, I appreciate the Reefer’s efforts to ensure that the draft was not impacted. Thank you Reefer. Much love. Rumor has it that Reefer’s daughter drafted most of this team. Yep, we pretty much knew by round 4 that Reefer was definitely not at the wheel because the draft picks were actually pretty decent. Baker Mayfield turned some heads at pick 10 but stats don’t lie. Baker was number 3 overall in THFFL fantasy points in 2024 and only one of 3 players to top 400 points. The guys is a straight-out baller. Follow that up with Cee Dee Lamb and we got something cooking. A pretty impressive showing for a spectacular young lady. This team is full of potential but also one more concussion away from Dancing with the Stars with Tua at QB2. There might be a couple players on this roster that I had to search for on the NHL depth charts, but other than that, pretty solid. Any team with Joe Flacco is a team with Joe Flacco. Davante Adams will look to rejuvenate his career with Matthew Stafford and this team also has a DeVonta. Unprecedented. You know Reefer, if you make the playoffs this year, you might have to consider a new draft strategy. As in, have your daughter draft your team every year. I won’t tell the Washington State Gaming Commission if you don’t. Best pick of the draft: You’re my boy Blue at 141. Overall grade: C plus – rounded on a curve to B minus
Day Spa –Bo Nix huh? Interesting. Don’t like it. But don’t hate it either. Is that what the THFFL has come to? Baker Mayfield and Bo Nix are first rounders? Yikes. Chase on the back 12 was a softball. Easiest pick Day Spa will ever have to make in a THFFL draft. Gift from the Commish. Don’t say I never gave you anything buddy. But then I lost you Day Spa. And I’m not giving Day Spa a hard time cuz it’s my schtick. That was the last Commish’s schtick, hating on Day Spa. Nothing but rainbows and unicorns for Day Spa from the Moss Head Commish. But, I genuinely didn’t have Henderson going off my board until round 5 at best. Round 3 for Henderson was the homer reach of the draft right there, IMO. Not gonna lie, I’m a little concerned about this team. Cam Ward and Bo Nix? Uhh, I think so? And I’m not someone that takes a lot of stock in other Fantasy Pontiffs spewing their opinions, I like to make my own assertations, but I was getting my oil changed last week and there was a fantasy football magazine in the waiting room, so I was flipping through it to kill some time. There was a section entitled “Draft These Guys If You Don’t Want to Win Your Fantasy Legue”. James Cook was the first RB listed. And no, I didn’t write the article. I do like the WRs though. Chase, London and Three-Name-Seahawk guy. Pretty solid. And Day Spa might have given up on Trevor Lawrence, but hell if Day Spa is gonna forsaken the entire Jags offense. Travis Etienne. Maybe This Year? Evan Engram and Bo Nix stack? Best pick of the draft: Kaleb Johnson at 73. Overall grade: Solid C
Moss Head Commish – I don’t see any holes on this roster. Not one. Herbert, Fields and Penix all on different bye weeks? First time ever in Commish draft history with 3 decent starting QBs with no bye duplication. Henry, Taylor and K9 at RB? You kidding me? And Brian Robinson in Round 12? Just one fallopian flare-up away from having a third RB1. Genius. Pencil in Evans for 1K yards and double digit Tuddies. Comeback player of the year Waddle at WR2 and DK or Jameson Williams, flip a coin at WR3. Koo-Koo-Ka-Choo and Njoku too? This roster is delicious! Suuuuuuper Boooooowl! Best pick of the draft: Too many to list.
