Week 9 Preview: The Push for Power

Retro TBL Week 9 Preview – “The Push for Power”

By Retro Boomin’ Breakdown

The grind is real in the Retro TBL. As the leaves fall and the standings tighten, every matchup in Week 9 carries a little extra edge. The Rebels continue to flex after another 200+ explosion, the Bombers are living up to their name, and the MadDawgz are howling their way toward the scoring title. Meanwhile, a cluster of 3–5 teams is clawing to stay relevant in the playoff race. With just a few weeks separating contenders from pretenders, it’s officially The Push for Power in the Retro Big League.

Atoms (3–5) vs BadM’fers (5–3)

Last week, the Atoms fizzled out while the M’fers kept pace in the Tomlinson chase. Justin Herbert’s big arm leads the Atoms, but he’ll need a nuclear outing to outshine Aaron Rodgers, Christian McCaffrey, and Alvin Kamara — a veteran trio that knows how to grind wins in November.

QB: Herbert vs Rodgers → Edge: Atoms
RBs: Williams / ? vs McCaffrey / Kamara → Edge: BadM’fers
WRs: Addison / Coleman / Golden vs Allen / Diggs / Downs → Edge: BadM’fers
TE: Schultz / Pitts vs Fannin → Edge: Atoms
K: Dicker vs Lutz → Even
DEF: Cardinals vs Patriots → Edge: BadM’fers

The Bottom Line: The M’fers’ balance across the board should carry them past a scrappy Atoms lineup. Herbert will make it close, but McCaffrey’s ceiling might be the difference.
Prediction: BadM’fers 204 – Atoms 172

Rebels (5–2–1) vs Terrors (4–4)

The Rebels are humming behind Drake Maye’s command and a ridiculous RB stable led by Josh Jacobs and Travis Etienne. But don’t sleep on the Terrors — Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor make up the league’s most physical backfield duo. The question is whether Sam Darnold and the passing game can keep pace with Rob’s offensive juggernaut.

QB: Maye vs Darnold → Edge: Rebels
RBs: Jacobs / Etienne / Achane vs Henry / Taylor / Hill → Edge: Even
WRs: Metcalf / Gadsden vs Adams / Doubs → Edge: Rebels
TE: LaPorta vs Kittle / Freiermuth → Edge: Terrors
K: Boswell vs Badgley → Edge: Even
DEF: Lions vs Packers → Edge: Rebels

The Bottom Line: Expect a slugfest of styles — finesse vs force. Rob’s Rebels are firing at every level and have a deeper bench of playmakers ready to erupt.
Prediction: Rebels 228 – Terrors 194

Bombers (6–2) vs Yinzers (4–4)

It’s air raid vs steel curtain. Patrick Mahomes has rediscovered his swagger, and when he’s cooking with Deebo, Jefferson, and Waddle, the Bombers become nearly unbeatable. The Yinzers counter with Jordan Love and a hungry backfield led by TreVeyon Henderson and Kyle Monangai, but they’ll need fireworks to keep up with Mahomes’ pyrotechnics.

QB: Mahomes vs Love → Edge: Bombers
RBs: Gibbs / Williams vs Henderson / Monangai → Edge: Bombers
WRs: Jefferson / Waddle / Samuel vs St. Brown / Pickens / Meyers → Edge: Even
TE: Kelce vs Conner → Edge: Bombers
K: Grupe vs Pineiro → Edge: Bombers
DEF: Seahawks vs Rams → Edge: Bombers

The Bottom Line: The Yinzers can hang for a while, but Mahomes and Kelce in sync is bad news for anyone. The Bombers’ ceiling is just higher.
Prediction: Bombers 246 – Yinzers 189

Condors (3–4–1) vs Believers (1–7)

A matchup of two teams headed in different directions. The Condors have been in every game, while the Believers can’t seem to catch a break even with Lamar Jackson putting up highlight reels. Matthew Stafford and Zay Flowers headline the Condors’ steady offense, while the Believers pray for divine intervention and a little defense.

QB: Stafford vs Jackson → Edge: Believers
RBs: Warren / Tucker vs Gordon / Carter → Edge: Condors
WRs: Worthy / Flowers / Tucker vs London / Boutte / McConkey → Edge: Condors
TE: Barner / Warren vs Kincaid / Loveland → Edge: Even
K: Loop vs Koo → Edge: Condors
DEF: Chiefs vs Falcons → Edge: Condors

The Bottom Line: The Believers show flashes, but the Condors’ cohesion and balance give them the edge. Expect another tough-luck loss for Josh Blake’s squad.
Prediction: Condors 191 – Believers 164

Bulls (4–4) vs Lions (6–2)

The Lions lead the Holmes Division thanks to pure consistency — Caleb Williams and Bijan Robinson keep the chains moving week after week. The Bulls counter with Dak Prescott and a dangerous receiver corps of CeeDee, Tee Higgins, and Puka Nacua. This might be the most entertaining shootout of the week.

QB: Prescott vs Williams → Edge: Lions
RBs: Jeanty / Montgomery vs Robinson / Montgomery → Edge: Lions
WRs: Lamb / Collins / Higgins vs Olave / Rice / Odunze → Edge: Even
TE: Ferguson vs McBride → Edge: Lions
K: Santos vs Fairbairn → Edge: Even
DEF: Chargers vs Texans → Edge: Even

The Bottom Line: The Lions have been the most consistent squad all season, and this week shouldn’t be any different. Still, the Bulls are dangerous enough to keep it close.
Prediction: Lions 221 – Bulls 207

Jackrabbits (3–5) vs Mudhawx (3–5)

Two teams are desperate to stay alive. The Jackrabbits look to Tua and D.J. Moore to spark a run, while the Mudhawx ride the electric freshman Jayden Daniels and his dual-threat chaos. Expect highlight plays, wild swings, and maybe a few turnovers along the way.

QB: Tagovailoa vs Daniels → Edge: Mudhawx
RBs: Charbonnet / Sutton vs Brown / Vidal → Edge: Even
WRs: Moore / Robinson / Sutton vs Harrison Jr. / Thomas Jr. / Marks → Edge: Mudhawx
TE: Ertz / Henry vs Bowers → Edge: Mudhawx
K: Prater vs Aubrey → Edge: Even
DEF: Colts vs Vikings → Edge: Even

The Bottom Line: Daniels’ upside gives the Mudhawx the spark they need, but Tua could just as easily steal it late. Call this one a coin flip.
Prediction: Mudhawx 183 – Jackrabbits 179

MadDawgz (5–3) vs Juggernauts (3–5)

The Dawgz are barking loud after back-to-back 200+ weeks. Goff, Ja’Marr Chase, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba headline an offense that’s become the class of the Holmes Division. The Juggernauts counter with Kirk Cousins, James Cook, and Michael Pittman Jr., but they’ll need perfection to hang in this one.

QB: Goff vs Cousins → Edge: MadDawgz
RBs: Jones / Dowdle vs Cook / Franklin → Edge: Juggernauts
WRs: Chase / JSN vs Pittman / Franklin / McMillan → Edge: MadDawgz
TE: Kraft vs Andrews → Edge: Juggernauts
K: Ryland vs Fitzgerald → Edge: Even
DEF: Broncos vs Eagles → Edge: MadDawgz

The Bottom Line: The Dawgz are in rhythm and have too much firepower to be derailed by an inconsistent Juggernauts team. Expect another 200-point outburst.
Prediction: MadDawgz 234 – Juggernauts 196

What’s at Stake

  • Rebels & Bombers can tighten their grip on division control with wins.

  • MadDawgz look to reclaim the league’s top scoring title and momentum heading into the stretch.

  • Yinzers & Terrors fight to avoid the .500 purgatory.

  • Lions aim to stay atop the Holmes heap but face a charging Bulls squad.

  • Atoms, Mudhawx, and Jackrabbits are in “win or fade” territory.

  • Believers may be down, but another Lamar miracle could shake the bottom of the league.
