Little Lennie's Fantasies
If there is one thing Little Lennie loves about this game it's when his beliefs are quickly shoved down his throat. Last weekend was a perfect example as he defined The Iron as a one man (Josh Allen) pony show. After all, Allen had scored 49 of his team's 114 in Week 1, then followed that up with just 2 points as The Iron came close to setting an all-time league low in team points in Week 2. Naturally, this display was followed up in Week 3's newsletter by Little Lennie questioning the depth of Coach Polizzia's roster, writing that " it looks like the Geritol Kids are going to live and die with Josh Allen." So, as Coach P. so often seems to do, his Iron produces the following totals for Week 3's game against a solid Blitz team...
Allen (25), Walker III (13), Mason (19), Brown ()), Sutton (19), Harrison Jr. (2), Kincaid (12), Dicker (13), 49ers (1).
Yup, everyone with the exception of Chase Brown, contributed to another stellar performance (104) for The Iron as they have now been high team in 2 of the first 3 weeks of football! Though only sporting a 2-2 record (obviously because their 18 point production occurred in Week 2's doubleheader weekend) The Iron was severely underestimated in last week's newsletter and for that Litttle Lennie owes a sincere "mea cupla"!
In fact, that whole Monty Hall division just may be the toughest in our league as Billy Mitch so aptly pointed out on our message board recently. The Power Rankings has the Hellraisers and Bad Boyz 1-2 with Team Iron coming in at 5. The Hellraisers and Boyz are 1 and 3 in points scored while the division accounts for 11 of the league's total of 24 wins! That's close to 50% of all wins coming from that 1 division! And while Moulton Lava should be commended for their fantastic 4-0 start, they coming in at a modest 4th in the rankings. Yes, Joe Porcaro must be talking up a storm about his Satanic Forces at the post office these days. A pity Wayne is retired and Pete Wright isn't a partner anymore to report on this. Hey, if your team is good what is the point unless you can ham it up a bit!
Speaking of the Lava, Wayne can really put some distance on the rest of his Click division opponents if his club can sweep this week's doubleheader. But it will be no small task as they face 2 very strong teams in the Straphangers and Beach Court Blitz. Certainly a formidable challenge, but one that his 4-0 Lava may be able to overcome. With that in mind let's take a look at all 12 games on slate for this weekend. Remember, after this we won't have another doubleheader weekend until Week 13 which makes this one all the more important. You don't want your team coming out at 0-6 or 1-5. Those are deep holes to have to dig out of. And there are 4 teams that could fall into that pit if they don't get some needed "W"s and now! Let's take a look at the games...
Little Lennie's Quick Picks
Road Dogs -4 vs. the Chuddaheads... Talk about a "must have" game. These 2 teams have a total of 1 win between them! Something has to give in this early season "toilet bowl" match and while Rome Odunze has been a godsend to the Chuddas so far, Little Lennie sees the Puppies squeaking out a 5 point victory here to grab their first win of the season. The loss of Burrow continues to haunt the Bombers.
Beach Court Blitz -23 vs. the BillyClubs... The Nation has made it through the first 3 weeks injury free, much unlike last year's debacle of a team, and are anchored by a solid running game of Achane, Swift, and Gibbs. The Blitz is the 2nd highest scoring team in the league and are primed t make a big run in '25. For the champs, the loss of Burrow has certainly had an impact on Ja'Marr Chase's game while Bucky "freakin" Irving has yet to find the endzone. Looking like Custodial Nation mops up a proud champion team by a clean 13 this weekend!
Hellraisers -10 vs. the Bad Boyz... Certainly a marquee game as these 2 fight for Monty Hall supremacy! The Boyz have jumped out to an early 8-0 lead while the computer has them at a 53% chance of prevailing. Hurts loves rushing in TD's from inside the 5 while Jonathon Taylor is on fire. Even George Pickens has 2 TD's in his last 2 games. But the Devil Dogs are no slouches either! James Cook is a scoring machine while Emeka Egbuka has shined as well! Tough one to call but Little Lennie gives a slight nod to the Satanic Duo by a mere mortal-like 2 points!
Government Mule +10 vs. The Iron... The names sound great...Breece Hall, Derrick Henry, and Tyreek Hill. But the Jets are a mess, the Ravens face a solid Chief defense, and the Dolphins, well, they are the Dolphins. Add into this equation that Geno Smith is your go-to guy this weekend and it all adds up to an unspectaclar but solid 7 point win for the legendary Coach P. and his Iron forces!
Sunnyvale Shit Hawks -2 vs. TripleA... Another "must win" game for these 1-3 teams. Danny has become distracted with his 1-man kicker rants and he needs to get his head into this weekend's games and like now! I think we're going to see a lot of Bijan Robinson as the Falcons look to control the game against the Daniels-less Commanders with a big dose of the running game. A good thing for the Hawks. For TripleA, McCaffrey needs to step it up another notch against the Jags, along with the thus far disappointing Brian Thomas Jr. to compensate for the losses of Aaron Jones and Mike Evans. Little Lennie thinks Mr. Brown will lay off the peace pipe long enough to propel the Hawks to a soaring 8 point win!
Straphangers +9 vs. Moulton Lava... You know Coach Q. is chomping at the bit over being an underdog to the Lava! The Mentor an underdog to the Lava? Seriously? Even the computer has the Lava at a 58% chnce of winning while the Power Rankings has the Lava 2 notches better than the Strappies! It looks like Dave has benched Baker Mayfield for the aging Matthew Stafford. Bold coaches make bold moves. Will it pay off? Little Lennie has to go with the odds here as Barkley continues to be denied the end zone by the selfish Hurts. Jared Goff comes out on top as he leads the Lava to another win, this time by 10! The Hillies aren't gonna be too happy losing to a Burnham Fields organization!
Road Dogs +7 vs. the Sunnyvale Shit Hawks... Dogs out to a 17-3 lead but it will tighten-up this weekend. Question is can the Pound Puppies hold on to escape with a 2 win weekend? Skattebo, Nico, and Justin Jefferson all think so and so does Little Lennie! A surprise weekend warrior is Bobby Barr as his Dogs sweep their games to move to 2-4! Puppies by 8!
Beach Court Blitz -4 vs. Moulton Lava... Wayne's run of wins ends here as The Nation's running game is just too powerful to overcome! Swift, Gibbs, and Achane are all primed for big games and that should be enough for Marco to be seen atop a Tally's truck handing out free dusters to all the kids around town. Well, they're not exactly free as he stole them from the postal supply room. But the kiddies won't know! The Nation is legit and their 11 point win helps prove it!
Chuddaheads -12 vs. Government Mule... If ever there is a game to snatch it would be this weekend against this Mule team. Can the Baghdad Bombers do it with Bryce Young in Foxboro to lead them? Little Lennie loves the team and its owner but can't bring himself to give this one to the Desert Dwellers. While they are favored and the computer has them at an overwhelming 74% chance of winning, even Geno Smith will look good against this Burrow-less team. Mule splits the weekend with a 6 point win!
BillyClubs OTB vs. the Hellraisers... With winning come high expectations and the Hellboys are huge favorites against the Slimeball leading Clubbers. Even the computer has them as astronomical 94% favorites! If the Clubbers are going to have any chance then it will be through the air with Chase, Pittman, and A.J. Brown. But at this point in the season, with Cook on a tear and Jackson primed for a big game in KC, the champs could be the victims of a washed out weekend! With club owner Billy Meader unable to attend the game as he recoups from a severe achillies injury, his team takes another one on the chin as they fall about 12 points shy. Can anyone stop the Hellraisers right now?
The Iron +10 vs. TripleA... Favored by both Little Lennie and the computer, the Arsonists know they need this one to stay alive in '25! Walker III has already gone off for a modest 5 points, opening up the door for an Arsonist comback and they do not disappoint! Mahomes, McCaffrey, and Josh Jacobs all pitch in to help TripleA avoid a sweep and come away with a solid 14 point win!
Bad Boyz -13 vs. the Straphangers... A battle of 2 titan coaches with legendary sports ties to Cape Ann pits Coach Q. against Essex's star, Billy Mitchell! The Boyz are favored in all areas, by Little Lennie, the computer, as well as in the Power Rankings. And with Jalen Hurts and Jonathon Taylor leading the way, Billy and his forces will come out on top of this grudge match. Coach Q. suffers a very rare double-loss weekend as he hunkers down to begin contacting owners with big trade offers! Boyz grab well fought double-header split with a 16 point rout of their nemesis, Coach Q. and the Strappies!
Good luck to all the teams this weekend as late summer temps continue for a few more days.
