Little Lennie's Fantasies
It might have taken a few weeks for the cream to rise to the top in our league, but if there is one thing that came out of last weekend's doubleheader it's that the Straphangers and Coach Q. are back and in a big way! Taking on the unbeaten Lava and league's 2nd ranked offense in the Bad Boyz, the Strappies had perhaps the toughest 2 game matchup of any team last weekend. And led by Matthew Stafford, Aston Jeanty, and D.K. Metcalf, they were more than up to the task, scoring a thus far league high 142 points to complete the sweep. The Boyz put up a fantastic fight, scoring 113 themselves to earn a split as they took down the Hellraisers in game 2 of their matches, but this was clearly the weekend that the Strappies were outed as legitimate contenders for the 2025 title! Not to sit on his laurels, Coach Q. then went out and pulled off a major trade with Eddie Farley and the Chuddaheads, acquiring CeeDee Lamb for Stafford and Jameson Williams. If Stafford can stay healthy, Eddie will have solved his QB issue in a major way as the Rams have plenty of receiving talent surrounding him. As for Coach Q., he can now boast an all-pro lineup from top to bottom as Lamb not only joins the above 3 mentioned but also a roster stocked with talent like Saquon Barkley, Khalil Shakir, Baker Mayfield, and even the hidden away Joe Mixon if he ever can make a return. Yep, the Strappies were by far the biggest winners over the last week plus, having vaulted to the top of the suddenly hot Click division, and remain high up (#2) in the Power Rankings. Congrats to the Coach!
Other big winners last weekend were TripleA, who took down both The Iron and Sunnyvale Shit Hawks with a solid 101 points to move to 3-3 on the season. The defending champion BillyClubs scored an impressive 108 as they pounded both the Blitz and previously unbeaten Hellraisers to move to 4-2 and the lead atop the Slimeball division. And finally the Chuddaheads, who were able to keep the Road Dogs winless while dropping Government Mule to 2-4 with their solid sweep!
As for the weekend's biggest losers, perhaps none were worse than the Puppies who now find themselves at 0-6 in the early days of October, and will need to do some real soul-searching if they are going to get back into the wild-card race. The good news for Bobby Barr's team? 1. There are still 11 games to go, so there is plenty of time left to turn things around. And 2. The Dogs have President Trump on their side and we all know he is a football fan and can always "fix" things for the Puppies if things were to get that desperate! Seriously, if you ever have to hit a 6 game skid, the start of the season is the best time to do it. This team, with talent like Nico Collins, Justin Jefferson, and Nick Chubb, is going to get going, and soon! The Helboys were the victims of the "Little Lennie jinx" as he had them sweeping over the Biyz and Clubbers. Didn't go exactly as planned, but they still sit at 4-2, sharing the Monty Hall lead with the Boyz. And both the Government Mule and Moulton Lava dropped both games of their weekend slate as well. For PFIII, his Mule has only scored a total of 287 points in their 6 games and sits last in the Power Rankings. Not muy bueno for a team looking to get back to the big show. Especially when in a division having to face the Boyz, Hellraisers, and Iron 3 times each!
So we now are done with doubleheaders for a long stretch and won't see our last one until Week 13. It's now on to the grind of single games loaded with bye weeks. Here is where "the coaching" comes in play as we have to scour the wires for available talent to fill gaps in our already thin lineups. With that said, let's get into this week's matchups...
Little Lennie's Quick Picks
Road Dogs +10 vs. the BillyClubs... Pittman looks like he's a go for the weekend which is good news for the Clubbers while Skattebo should feast on the Saints' defense as Tracy is close to returning. For the Puppies and owner Bobby Barr, the real driving force on if his team is going to get in the win column is if Kyler Muyrray can take it to the next level to become an elite QB and not just a good one. He certainly has that chance to display eliteness this weekend as his Cardinals entertain the hapless Titans of Tennessee. Little Lennie's take? Nico, Deebo, and company have enough favorable matchups to pull off the upset of the week! Puppies get in the win column as they lap up a nice 6 point win over the champs! Granny not too happy after the game as she and Uncle Jed seen down at the cement pond smokin' some crawdads!
Beach Court Blitz -14 vs. the Chuddaheads... A battle of Custodial Nation vs. Baghdad Bombers got off to a quick start Thursday night as newly acquired Stafford paid immediate dividends with his 33 points to help lead the Chuddas to a nice 42 point lead. And while I can guarantee you the combo of Gibbs and Achane will eat into that lead for the Nation, my confidence of Justin Fields, especially against a rejuvenated Cowboy squad, is pretty much nil! Gotta put this one in the Bombers' bank by an oh-so-close 2 points with Blitz owner Marco seen screaming outside of his Nation headquarters in Rockport as Fields throws his 3 interseption of the day to seal the deal!
Hellraisers -25 vs. The Iron... Another team with a fantastic Thursday night start as Kyren Williams caught 2 TD passes to put the Satanic Duo up by 27! With the Bills potentially building up an early lead that spells good news for the Boys as Cook could run, run, and run some more. And that could work against The Iron who need Allen to pass, pass, and pass some more to get his club back into the game! With Chase Brown stymied all season and Jordan Mason facing a strong Browns defense, thing all add up to the Hellraisers getting quickly back into the win column as they cruise to a 14 point rout over legendary Coach Polizzia's team!
Government Mule OTB vs. the Bad Boyz... Ever wonder what happens when you pit the Power Rankings top team against its worst or when the top scoring team faces the lowest? We should find out this weekend as Billy Mitch's Boyz entertain the Mule in Clamdigger Stadium in wonderful Essex, Ma.. The Boyz are off to an early 10 zip lead and the computer has them as 98% favored to win. Hurts, Taylor, Pickens, and Williams all come in white hot while Derrick Henry and Breece Hall have struggled of late. Look, the easy answer to this one? Boyz by 21!
Sunnyvale Shit Hawks -1 vs. Moulton Lava... Sorry not-too-young-anymore Danny Brown, Little Lennie thinks anyone wearing a Lions uniform could be in for a big weekend as they face the hapless Bengals while even the one player on the Jets who might prosper against the Cowboys, Garrett Wilson is starting for the Burnhams Field Lava team! St. Brown continues his torrid streak, leading Wayne back to his winning ways with a 16 point takedown of the Hawks!
Straphangers -14 vs. TripleA... If Hurts can stop being so selfish and let Barkley run a few in, Coach Q.'s team may become unstoppable! Jeanty is showing the NFL that he's the real deal while Mayfield just gets better with age! For the Arsonists, losing Jacobs to the bye can't help but Mahomes seems to be reveerting back to the Mahomes of 3 years ago while McCaffrey also looks like he's back. This game will be more of a measuring game for TripleA to see how legit their team is. In the end, Little Lennie gives the nod to the more talented Strappies by a closer than expected 4 points! Unfortunately for Coach Q., with lots of talent comes lots of expectations!
Good luck everyone this weekend. The weather feels like August and it's gonna stay like this for several days! Nice for the minds and heating bills!
