Congrats to all teamowners on a successful draft night at Marco's (a.k.a. Fantasy Headquarters). The draft went as smooth as any, in large part thanks to Paul Fillmore for handling things. Missed not having Paul, Dave, or Danny there, but all-in-all we had a good time.
We are now into our 28th year of Little Lennie's Fantasy Island Football which is pretty hard to believe! Gone are the days of typing a printed newsletter each week. Gone are the days of relying on the Boston Herald for official scores on Monday and Tuesdays. Gone are the days of hand counting scores. Now everything is there right in front of us whether it's our phones or home computers. But it's always a welcome sight and now tradition to see Billy Mitch showing up with papers and pens in hand to draft the old-fashioned way. But things do change as we age and now that ole coot heads down to Florida in October for warmer golfing sites! And we ABSOLUTELY miss seeing Paul Polizzia on draft night but are glad to know that he is in better health for his age than most guys in their 30's! The Iron remains a force in our league and why not with Josh Allen leading the way for Team Geritol in 2025!
Due to the unusual structure of NFL bye weeks this year we are having 2 of our 3 double-header weeks right out of the gate starting with this weekend and following up with a second in Week 4. Then we don't have our 3rd and final one until Week 13. I kind of like this format because it gets us 6 games under our belts after 4 weeks of NFL games which could absolutely define how the season shapes up for a bunch of teams. Not a bad thing to be say 6-0 or -1 before the month of September ends!
This year we will keep an eye on how the computer projected teams to fare after the draft was completed. Here is the list from best to worst as projecte by our site...
1.Sunnyvale Shit Hawks 2. Bad Boyz 3. Straphangers 4. TripleA 5. Road Dogs 6. BillyClubs 7. Beach Court Blitz 8. Hellraisers 9. The Iron 10. Chuddaheads 11. Government Mule 12. Moulton Lava
Of course the computer can't foresee injuries, players exceding expectations, trades, etc... which is why it would be extraordinary if the final standings came even close to these projections. Now the Power Rankings on the other hand are much more reliable from week to week! Though I will end the projection discussion by noting that there was a huge point differential for Danny Brown's Hawks to the 2nd place Bad Boys (818 to 722). So maybe it knows something that us humans don't...
As always, if you need to get in touch with me for any reason my number is 508-284-9461. You can call or text. If I don't answer just leave a message. As commish, i can always make changes even after games have begun as long as you put them in on time.
Good luck to everyone this week and as always I will have our first complete newsletter coming up after the conclusion of this week's games!
