Inside the LFFL Week 1 Results

The long offseason has finally ended.  The draft is complete.  The rosters full of players we all wanted or maybe we didn't. Hope springs eternal!  Week 1 saw several blowout games with one very close matchup but only two games decided by 10 points or less.  Defending champ Rob along with Matt ,Erik and Bill , Ron and Gary are on the right side of routs.

  • Art Donovan U 108.8 Power Pugs 88.18:  Gary gets off on the right foot behind the arm and legs of Caleb Williams with 24.2, Marvin Harrison scores 15.6 and the Broncos D/ST scores 19.  The Pugs drop the opener with Baker Mayfield topping the scoring with 22.58 and Chuba Hubbard in support with 16.4.
Trash Talking Mimes 111.66 Rolling Thunder 81.52:Josh Allen is POTW with a 38.76 point exposition on SNF, Saquon Barkley returns this season with 16.4 and Jaxon Smith-Njigba has 15.9.  Denny drops one despite Javonte Williams leading with 19.4 on TNF including two of the first 3 TD's of the season on TNF but only James Cook could follow impressively with 18.7.
Big City Carpetbaggers 87.36 KELLZKRUSHERS 77.84: Terry starts out on a positive note behind Lamar Jackson's 29.36.  Kelly drops her first game in the league with Jakobi Meyers leading the scoring with 13.7
Butt Kickers 119.78 EZ Dubs 71.72: Bob wins by 48 with Derrick Henry running as he always does with 29.7 and Jalen Hurts scoring 24.28.  Justin is led by Bijan Robinson's 21.4 and Jordan Love with 15.92.
Gangus Cons 120.62 Chaka Khan 72.72:  Ron has his own 48 point blowout win behind Patrick Mahomes throwing and running for 26.02 on Friday night football in Sao Paulo, Deebo Samuel moves his game to DC with 19.1, Travis Etienne has big day with 17.1 and Breece Hall scores 15.5 on a Steeler linen curtain. Jason is led by Brock Bowers 12.8.
Blame the Refs 117.08 Boomer & Bunker 114.42:  Rob pulls this one out with the Bears D/ST scoring a TD on MNF.  Zay Flowers was the leading scorer with 24.6, Brock Purdy is good for 18.78 and Devon Achane scored 15. Boomer & Bunker deserved better but drops to 0-1 with Emeka Egbuka making his debut with 21.6, Jayden Daniels throws and runs for 20.12 and Puka Nacua followed with 18.1.
Password is Taco 111.88 Men of Steel 71.3:  Matt pulls off his own 40 point blowout behind 8 of 9 in his lineup in double figures. Led by Garrett Wilson's 19 and Drake May with 16.28.  Ed will forget this one depsite Run CMC scoring 18.7 in a week where his availability was in question.
  • Week 1 Player of the Week: Josh Allen TTM 38.76 pts
Week 1 Bench player of the week: No single player would have meant victory if they played but Keon Coleman with 21.2 for PP would have helped.
Potent notables:  This was the first week of the new lineup configuration with 9 starters instead of 8 in previous years.  It will get difficult to find WR's and RB's that are start-able for bye weeks in a 14 team league.  We've all seen how thin the waiver wire can get.  Roster management and depth become much more critical factors as the season moves on.
Looking at all the team rosters it looks like this season will be very competitive .  Of course injuries and under performances will be a factor.  There is always that 'league winning' player out there who may or may not be rostered.  That's why early season waivers and drop/adds are so important. With our waiver system it's always an interesting decision on who to spend that imaginary waiver cash on.  I hope everyone participates in the waiver system this season (our third using the bidding system).
