Surfin Fools pre-season breakdown

Happy 22nd season

Thank you again Matt for being Commish and hosting all these years.   Its a lot of work, and appreciate your enthusiasm and keeping it together for so long.   Its not easy babysitting adults is it?  Just ask any current or former FedEx Ops Manager.   (Or Fantasy Football Commish)

As you know, i like to do a little pre-season writeup based on how the Teams look before the season starts, so lets get down to it

Ill go in Draft Order this year

The following is for entertainment Porpoises Only...ENJOY!

DEALING OUT L's  (Rick Felipe):

Rick flies in from Vegas these days (and boy are his arms tired), just to hang with the boys and get down at the draft.  Rick had 1st pick this season, and almost got talked out of Christian McCaffrey, but stuck to his guns and went with CMac.   Not a bad way to start a team.   CMac has been Fantasy Gold for years now, and as we know....Gold turns to Fools Gold real quick in FFB as these players get older, but Ricks hoping for at least one more season of Dominance.  Rick went WR, WR, WR after that to give Christian some air support in Nico, Olave, and Rashee Rice.  Then went and got themselves a TE1 in Kincaid, and shored up the lineup with Dak and Swift.   Dealers have a nice bench with Aiyuk waiting in the Wings to come in to give the squad a spark whenever called upon.  RB2 may be the weak link in this squad, but CMac counts as two RB's.   The Dealers are gonna be dealing out plenty of Losses this season with this squad.

THE UNDERDOGS  (Matt Stinebaugh):

Our Commish went RB Bijan Robinson with the #2 overall pick.   Big things are expected from Bijan Robinson this season, after last years mind boggling non-usage of BRob by Fred Smiths kid in Atlanta.  Maybe Raj was the OC?   Bijan was RB9 last season despite only getting 10-15 carries a game.  So if hes unleashed properly, he could be the new RB1 in the Fantasy Realm.   And then Bijan got an unexpected teammate in the 2nd, Puka at 2.11??  Matt was using the Google to make sure Puka wasnt injured, cause why was he still there at 2.11?  Who knows...but he was, and The Underdogs say thank you very much.   In the 3rd, The Dogs brought in TE1 Sam LaPorta to build the squad strong up the middle.    Joe Burrow will be under center this season, hoping Chase reports to pad the QB stats.   Underdogs surround their strong core of QB, RB, WR, and TE with Tank Dell, Aaron Jones, and Christian Watson.   Each have question marks, but Bijan, Puka, and LaPorta should put up plenty of points on their own.

GRIZWALDS  (JOHN SCOTT/MIKE CLARK)

The Grizwalds at #3 had John Scott in the War Room solo as Clark was taking his daughter on a Vacation to College.   We're seeing our kids go off to college when they werent even born when this league started!  Crazy talk.  Back to the league.  Grizwalds at #3 continued the drafts theme of RB, RB, with another RB in the Jets Breece Hall.  Hall was RB3 last season, despite losing his QB ARodge.  If Rogers can stay healthy, that should open up things even more for Breece.  Grizwalds teamed him up with high usage RB Rashaad White in the 2nd and then Kupp in the 3rd which is some serious value if he can stay healthy.  But i think the biggest value was Grizwalds snagging Josh Allen in the 5th???  Thats kind of absurd in our format.  I know he lost Diggs, but so what.   Grizwalds rounded out their roster with consistent Fantasy Vets in James Conner, and Keenan Allen.    But also brought in Rookie Brock Bowers at the TE spot to add some youth and vigor.   Im still tripping the Grizwalds got Josh Allen in the 5th.   He can carry squads to Victory single handedly.   Grizwalds identity are proven Vets who wont get shook when the shit hits the fan.

LION  (Last years Champ Jamar Thymes):

Our 2023 Champ had the 4th overall pick and im sure was happy to see a pour defenseless Lamb sitting there, CeeDee didnt stand a chance, as he was pounced upon by the Lion to be the first WR taken in the draft.  CeeDee is an elite WR and should be the focal points of the Cowboys and the Lion.  He was teamed up with RB James Cook and TE Kelce in the 2nd and the 3rd.   James Cook should see high usage in BUF now that the post-diggs era has begun.  And Kelce is as Swift as they cum.   Another team who built strong up the middle at WR, RB, and TE then build around the core.   Devonta Smith in the 4th was a great value pick, and then Zamir "Zuess" White to pound the rock.   The Lion waited on QB, and was rewarded in doing so by landing Tua in the 8th.   Whose WR's are pretty damn good if havent noticed.  This allowed Team Lion to build a nice bench.   Lion did go Rookie, Rookie, Rookie in the 9th, 10th, and 11th.  But after snagging LaPorta in this range last year...we cant question the Lions methods.   The Lion roars and awaits all challengers

HIT EM UP  (Larry Dixon):

Larry at 5 surprised the room a bit with his first overall pick of RB Jahmyr Gibbs.   Its not the player, but where he went.  But Larry knew he wouldnt be there for him on the turn, so if you want your guy...you go get your guy.   Gibbs finished the second half on a tear last year, helping the Champ become Champ, so Larrys hoping that pedigree will keep flowing here in 2024.   Picking Gibbs at 5 meant Hit Em Up had self-confidence that he'd be just fine, and the way the draft went...Hit Em Up really did go for the knock out punches.   Grabbing guys maybe earlier than others but putting together a team of his targets.   Garret Wilson in the late second was a nice snag, and then London in the 3rd should get steady targets.   Mixon is the rb1 in high powered Texans offense, and the riskiest pick yet may have been QB Anthony Richardson in the 5th.   ARich embodies this Hit Em Up squad, go big or go home.    Kyle Pitts at TE could rebound this season, and rookie RB Jonathon Brooks could be the second half RB that keeps this Larry Train rolling deep into the season.

No Mo Dead Weight (Demetrios Rentz):

Demetrios brought his Son, his Work Phone, and SANA Dispatch to this years Draft.   It looked like a real life War Room going on over on the Draft Couch.  At the 6th pick, Rentz went with WR Jamar Chase.   Hoping he ends that holdout before game 1, so he can be that stud WR1 on the field   RB Achane in the 2nd is a Fantasy stud if he can stay healthy.  Deebo at WR2 should be steady, but the most exciting pick this team made was grabbing young QB CJ Stroud in the 4th.   Making Stroud the 3rd QB picked in the draft after Mahomes, Hurts.  Stroud has all kinds of weapons at WR with Collins, Tanks, and Diggs.   With big play point bonuses in this league, Stroud will put up big numbers every week.   Stroud, Achane, Mostert, Chase, Deebo and Kittle should keep Dead Weight in the fight every week

GAY JR is the MAN  (Nate Muren):

Sleeping beauty in the cheap seats was sitting at 7 and woke up real quick when he saw Tyreek Hill was still there on the board.  Surprised and bewildered was Nates theme all draft as it seemed he couldnt believe who was still available each time he was on the clock.  He gets his guy Pacheco in the 2nd.   Kamara in the 3rd may have been a surprise to some though.  Kamara wasnt himself really last season, but should be heavily involved in the offense.  So wont ever put up a goose-egg.   High target Pittman in the 4th, and TE1 McBride in the 5th, but most surprising of all was Lamar Jackson sitting there for Gay Jr's in the 6th.   QB's usually go in the 3rd and 4th round in our league...but this year was the exception.   Gay Jr's sitting pretty at the QB spot with dual threat lil' ol' Lamar.   Nice rounded out squad this season for Team Nate.  K, go back to nappy nappy there you hard working man

SURFIN' FOOLS (Adam Marek):

Yours truly was sitting at 8 this year.   And i had a tough decision at the very first pick.  Justin Jefferson and Amon St Brown were both available, and when i was at the board....i was going back and forth between the two.   Had i not owned Justin Jefferson last season when he broke his shit, i prolly would have gone JJ.   But went with Sun God Amon St Brown whose about a safe a pick as any.  2nd choice was pretty easy with AJ Brown on the board, and then needed a RB so rocked Seattles Kenny Walker in the 3rd.   Not a stud, but should be steady.   Then my second tough choice of my draft was when both Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts were sitting there in the 4th.   Did the same thing, reached for Allen then decided to go Hurts.   Maybe cause i owned AJ Brown?  Maybe cause Allen lost Diggs?  All of the above.   We'll see how that decision plays out this season.  DK and David Montgomery joined the squad next and prolly should have gone TE over Singletary, but lucked out grabbing Njoku late in the draft to hopefully get me some points at TE this year. Happy with my starting lineup, but questions at RB and TE.   Love my WR's and Hurts...so now i just see how far they take me.   Xavier Worthy could turn into a weekly deep threat big play stud muffin.   All over my bench im sure when he does catch those 70 yard TD's.    Surfin' Fools are out in the lineup...just hoping to catch some decent waves this season.

LENCH MOB (Jay Johnson):

Winner of the best smile of the league, Jay Johnson sat at #9 this year and goes with RB Saquon Barkley at 9.  I saw Jays printed out Spreadsheet and it looked intense.  If you see how Jays team ended up panning out, it develops into a steady rock solid weekly starting line-up that might not throw out the upside flyer types, but the players that are proven.   Barkley, Davante Adams, Higgins, and Mark Andrews will provide the veteran leadership.  As the kids George Pickens and QB Jordan Love add some of the pizazz the above may not.  If Javonte Williams goes back to rookie year Javonte....Lench Mob could spell trouble.

THE DEAD NIEDERMEYERS (Graff and Rod):

The comedy duo of Mike and Rod had the unfortunate spot of the 10th pick, but fortunate for them...given that they have a method and theyre sticking to it, which is RB's run this machine...Jonathon Taylor was still there.  And the RB cherry on top?  Derrick Henry came right back around the bend to give the Niedermeyers a potent RB duo of the King Henry and Prince Taylor.   Evans, Waddle, and Amari give them a solid WR trio.  Niedermyers surprisingly made Rookie QB Jayden Daniels their first QB, but then they were able to pair him up with Brock Purdy, so crisis averted.   Solid starting lineup from top to bottom.   Toga Party at Rods!

SAVAGE (Nick Brammer):

Savage is right!   Love it when a draft plan comes together.  Poor George Gonzalez looked like a Duck at a Shooting Gallery.    Ding...back to the chair, ding back to the Board, ding back to the chair.   "Is so and so available?"   "No, hes gone!"   "Skip the pick!!"    Chaos shrieked across the draft waters.  But what may have started the chaos, im sure Savage Brammer did not expect Justin Jefferson to be sitting there in the green room at pick 11.   So that threw the pre-determined draft plan right out the window.   And each round after was like fingernails across a chalk board.  As the chalk dust settled, and as a team drafted by phone from 2500 miles away began to materialize....we see a very interesting team.    Justin Jefferson at 11 is nice.  Then we have Rookies Marvin Harrison Jr and Nabers picked in the first 5 rounds, steady RB Josh Jacobs, some Zay Flowers, and then to really add some excitement...lets trot ol' reliable Kyler Murray out there at QB.   This team can be an absolute disaster if the rookies dont pan out and Kyler struggles.  Or Murray and Marvin ball out for an excellent Cardinal Stack and Justin Jefferson shows the world hes the best WR in the planet regardless of whose throwing him the ball.   Lets pop some Popcorn and see what kind of show Savage puts on

GLORY2GOD  (Charles Graham):

C-Mac at 12!!  The back end turn.  This can be fun and painful at the same time.  As get to go back to back, but then need to wait a while to see who the heck ur gonna end up with.   C-Mac decided to go RB, RB here on the front end and ended up with two good ones in Etienne and Kyren.  Next turn C-Mac starts the QB selections with the 1st QB to be selected in the 2024 draft in Patrick Mahomes.   Cant go wrong with Mahomes.   Pairs this initial core of studs with Diggs and DJ, and TE Engram.   Flex decision may be a tough one for Charles all season long as will need Moss or Chubb to become their teams starters, and/or Hollywood Brown to come back sooner than expected.  At any rate...when you have Mahomes and two stud RB's, your gonna be jusssssssst fine

The season is upon us...Game 1 in just a few days.   Good luck squads....may the Surfin' Fools wipe the tables with yah'

Wow, Adam you’re incredible. I bet it took at least 3 hours, I’m tired from just reading this post draft report! Thanks for making the league fun and hopefully everyone takes the time to read your fun intellect. Go Padres and Go Underdogs!!!!
